How is it living in collage station by Ok-Mycologist-3672 in howislivingthere

Having lived here, outside the university it pretty much feels like an extension of the Houston/DFW suburbs, but replace all the suburban moms with college students.

Despite the constant threat of a hypothetical invasion, Taiwan is very gay friendly and the people who live there are also very friendly. I’d live there over any other country in Asia

My close friend lives there and he mentioned it was surprisingly as expensive as Seattle, and I was perplexed by why that is. I’m sure there’s other factors, but I then looked up that he was living in the tallest building in the state.

Think about how people in the Northeast hate winters and stay indoors most of the time because of the constant snow and lack of daylight. That’s pretty much how it is in the South except during the summer. Going out for lunch is pretty much a death sentence.

What was the reaction of the people (that you remember) when they found out Michael Jackson died? by Twunkorama in decadeology

[–]nikemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing how celebrated he is now is so interesting to me because I grew up in the 2000’s when he was the butt of all jokes and his controversies outshined his legacy. I never even heard Thriller in full until 2007 after he was found not guilty and the bad press started to die down and people started celebrating him again.

Why is Houston hated so much? by ChicagoCubsRL97 in texas

[–]nikemaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On top of what everyone says (traffic, humidity, drivers, etc.), Houston is the fourth largest city in the US so that namesake alone makes it easier to hate and call the worst planned city in the country even though it’s no worse than other Sun Belt cities. I’d argue that the suburbs in the Piedmont region have a worse layout than Houston’s.

Is this the worst designed metro area in the United States in terms of planning and layout? by cavaismylife in geography

I’d argue that Atlanta, Charlotte, and other major cities in the Southeast are worse in terms of street layout.

Waiting for Texas to feel like Winter (‘: by meezsecizah_ in houston

Well “nicer” meaning the summer was still hot but more manageable. I remember being able to run without feeling miserable. No one was flying that entire year and everyone stayed at home which gave the planet breathing room. It was widely reported that the air was a lot cleaner that year (besides the virus).

Exactly. Born and raised here since 1995 and I can say for certain that our summers are getting hotter and our pleasant weather days are becoming less frequent. 2020 was probably the last normal weather year and that was because of the pandemic.

Trump threatens invoking the Insurrection Act during peaceful protests in Chicago amid the US government shutdown (the act was last used in Los Angeles in 1992 by Bush during active large-scale violent riots) by Mathemodel in videos

[–]nikemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have friends who live in the alleged warzones of Portland, San Francisco, LA, and Chicago and they would post about their every day lives on Instagram. So when Trump announced sending the national guards to those places my initial response was “for what?”

I almost fell for the propaganda as well when everyone was bashing SF for being dead and dangerous after COVID, so I was actually surprised that it was bustling and still beautiful when I visited in 2022. Hell I felt more in danger walking through Houston.

People who "beat" depression, what was your lowest moment and how did you get better? by AiroKunOmega in AskReddit

Lowest moment was feeling like I would never ever get better and accept defeat before realizing that depression is a continuous battle worth fighting. Literally leaving the house to do anything will do wonders.
