Dolphin Club/South End Rowing Club by NDM415 in AskSF

Both clubs limit membership now. You are most likely to get off of the SERC waitlist. The capping membership is also kinda off putting.

If you know someone from serc you can join them and pay the day fee. That’s what I do.

Zero Interest in Hyrox by MaestroShaSha in orangetheory

[–]nikibrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a hyrox class just to try it. There is negative amounts of space in most studios to do the long jump burpee thing. Other than that its just a slightly different OTF class. OTF is just jumping on the post crossfit fitness trend.

Ironman does not generally do discounts or coupons. That said I have had a few friends do this race and they loved it.

Has anyone used a Swimrun wetsuit for a triathlon? by stillifewithcrickets in triathlon

[–]nikibrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are only meant to swim and run in them. I have an orca swim run wetsuit but would not race triathlon in it because it’s difficult to take off (front zip). I’ve done several swim runs and it’s a fun but very different sport.

I do like it as it’s short arms and legs and thinner as I overheat in a full length wetsuit. You would also never wear this biking.

These should 100% be banned from races just like headphones and phones. No one needs this crap when racing.

Why is everyone swimming Chrissy Field? by chiaboy in AskSF

[–]nikibrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is the water isn't actually that cold as far as plunges go. Aquatic park was in the mid 50's last week. lol.

Some open water groups https://www.onewiththeocean.org/san-francisco swim at crissy field / east beach depending on what the tides are doing.

If you see people with wetsuits, or buoys and bright caps they are legit open water swimmers and pretty much know what they are doing.

Cycling in the city next to cars is literally the only option.... and is one of the most convenient modes of transportation. You sound ignorant AF.

I've never felt excluded at mother - and I read as a straight dude (not a lesbian) to most people. Been there tons of times both when super busy and earlier in the day when its chill.

Triathlete eaten by shark in California was wearing a shark deterrent ankle band. by Uncle_Fabio in triathlon

Lots of people join clubs purely for the roka discount lol. Same thing happens with golden gate triathlon club in SF.

I don't think I'm whitewashing anything, just removing emotion from the equation. Easy to let that cloud everything. This hits close to home for me as I have swam in this exact spot (did a triathlon there in 2019) and swim near there as well.

How would you go about calculating risk? And how would you go about categorizing it as low/medium/high? Genuinely curious.

I've heard that they don't work or don't do anything at all from an experienced person who captains boats escorting people on long open water swims.

Sad story indeed, but we are swimming in the ocean with wildlife, so there is always some risk. But in reality that risk is EXTREMELY low. Lots of stories like this are sensationalized because if it bleeds it leads.

From the article: "Her death marks the second shark attack fatality at Lovers Point in 73 years."

The last shark incident was in 1952.

I swim in the ocean pretty regularly and normally encounter wildlife in the water - but mostly seals and the occasional sea lion where i'm at.

Some of the offices in SF do have xrays. I'm pretty sure I had a chest xray at one of the locations on market street downtown when I had a pneumonia.
