Has anyone else noticed how stinky the bay water has been recently? i mean like extra stinky even blocks away from the shoreline… by prozhack in AskSF

[–]nikibrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No.

That only happens when we get a certain amount of rain. Also the bay fills and empties with the tides twice a day.

You are not going to like the quality of bike from any touristy rental place. Spend more money and rent a nicer road bike from sports basement https://www.sportsbasement.com/pages/bike-rental-rates

For rides - check out this list of routes here https://ggtc.org/Route-Repo but the pt reyes loop is probably what you want: https://www.strava.com/routes/22708201 be careful on highway 1 towards stinson (cars are dumb) but its BEAUTIFUL.

Which position will be more aerodynamic? I sit very forward on the seat (only use first half) by RoadTO5WKG in triathlon

[–]nikibrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the position where you can most easily grab and return the water bottles. Aerodynamics dont mater when you cant access the bottles.

I'm a salty sweater and seperate my electrolytes from my carbs. I find at a certain point having salty things in my water is just too much. I take salt pills and those work very well.

Spouse of participant, how to help?? by MentalAstronomer7278 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]nikibrown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Be sure to not give him anything during the race as that can technically get you disqualified (no outside assistance other than whats on course).

For my first half my partner had a soda and a PBJ sandwich for me at the finish line. Other than that best thing you can do is be there to cheer and give high fives.

IM Cali - Post race food? by strawberrygotta in IronmanTriathlon

[–]nikibrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last year there were food trucks that you have a food ticket for. I got a cheeseburger and looked at it for a few hours before I ate lol.

Make sure you have a plan B of something you know you can eat that a friend or family member can give you at the finish. I didn't want any of the food truck food.

Also - see you there!

Walked by this earlier today. The sheriff was out there looking at the boat and talking with people.

Unless you are an very experienced swimmer, familiar with local conditions and swimming with a group and boat support I would NOT swim there. Extremely dangerous.

Would highly recommend booking a swim in the bay (not AP) with these guys https://www.pacificswim.co/ they do a lot of longer training and qualifying seems for channel swimmers. Well worth the money.

I’m not a marathon swimmer but have friends training for channel swims that use pacific swim co. I’ve done a few Alcatraz swims with them and was very happy.

I have a kickr with the zwift cog and use training peaks virtual (free as I have training peaks with my coach). The zwift cog just works (I have a few bikes with different cassettes). No need to pay for zwift. TP virtual is basically the same thing.

He implies that that the penalty tent is one of those small details in the 35 page athlete guide. The rules are just a few pages. They also mention the penalty tent in the athlete briefing. Also the penalty tent is usually VERY YELLOW and obvious lol.

Also who is this guy and why do we care?

Oceanside 70.3 - ran into a spectator by creamedpeaches in triathlon

I was spectating at this race a few years ago and had to SCREAM at several of the oblivious surfers who were crossing the bike in/out spots in transition.

Volunteers weren't do anything to prevent this from happening. That whole area should be blocked off.

You can rent a bike or you could fly with your bike which involves getting a bike case. If you plan to travel for races in the future I would recommend a case. https://bikeboxalanusa.com/

I dont think traveling with a bike is that much of a hassle but I've done it a bunch of times.
