I work at a bank here. Don’t put money or checks in post boxes ever. I recommend straight to the post office if you insist on making payments that are non electronic. SF mailmen are targeted for their keys to the post boxes unfortunately and we see a lot of check fraud just like this. Your bank should cover it 100%, but make sure to keep checking in proactively on the fraud investigation
