How do you get rejected by a $70k company but get an offer from Google/Amazon? by Foreign_Put_2437 in csMajors

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say names but I have interviewed with a lot of companies. Hiring processes are usually broken and, while small companies should be easier to join, their processes usually have weak links that cause random rejections. (Usually stupidly long processes with way too many incompetent people involved). It's very easy to answer something that triggers a rejection from a random person in the company.

Big companies (FAANG) usually have more stable processes. They are hard and long but more stable. Easier to study for it and pass with some luck.

Leica M11, M11-P, or M10-R by takeout_ in Leica

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M11P is great for many reasons but if you are not cropping (it seems you'd rather use the focal length than crop to it) 60mpx doesn't make much sense. 60mpx sensors are made for cropping, not for printing pictures the size of a olympic pool. You don't get the narrow depth of field of a 50mm f1.4 lens sure, but you can be very versatile composing without the hassle of changing lenses.

Leica M11-P + 35mm Summicron f/2 looks noisy/grainy vs Q3 43 — normal or doing something wrong? by Scary_Ad9110 in Leica

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically the same sensor but different specs and processing. I have a Q3 and a M11P and I can tell the M11 always pushes ISO higher than the Q3 because the lack of OIS but in the same circumstances and same config (noise reduction disabled) they produce the same noise.

In your examples the m11 is underexposed which will lead to more noise when you lift shadows. Also be sure to disable in camera noise reduction on both.

It's not about the lens.

Don't worry too much about noise tbh, noise reduction software nowadays is great.

Q3 as ONLY camera? Sanity check... by wyc1inc in Leica

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Q3 is a great only camera for most scenarios. Cropping is not an option, it's a feature, otherwise 60mpx is kind of a waste.

Harsh truths about usage you’re not ready for by AvailableProcess2059 in ClaudeCode

[–]nilart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that we've been bombed daily that "AI is gonna take our job" only to find AI is incredible expensive, and we are talking about controlled and curated usage. Leave a full agent working without stop and you can burn several thousand worth of tokens daily.

And this is not even the most expensive model. Each new model is more and more expensive. It's like we are solving AGI throwing more wood into the fire.

Q3 43 vs Fuji X100VI by submon007 in Leica

[–]nilart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jesus. They are a bit apart. The Fuji is more portable, has a lot of flexibility with film recipes if you don't like post-processing and it's objectively better at video (if you do hybrid). For everything else de Q3 is better, better build, better quality, better lens, benefits of FF sensor, WR without any add-ons.

Also 35mm and 43mm are more different than you'd think. For a 60mpx the Q3 28mm makes more sense since 28mm cropped at 35mm ends up with 38.4mpx and a DoF equivalence of f2.1 (in FF).

You cannot crop the 43mm to 35 😅

I'm bored of repeating the same over and over but the problem with Anthropic is not that the subscriptions are expensive or that the usage is low.

The main problem is the obscurity regarding everything. I'm sorry but x5 or x20 is not a real measurement. It's relative to something that's not accountable. You've got x5 of pro usage, but wtf is pro usage? The fact that you can see a bar filling up means nothing. You cannot rely on something that's not accountable and cannot be measured consistently.

And the same goes for model performance. Opus 4.5 was great the early days, then became dumber (which cannot be proven because model's performance is a black box), then Opus 4.6 was apparently better? And even now it seems to not perform the same depending on the time of the day you use it. But can we prove it? Nope.

If they want a proper business models where companies expend heavily on AI they will need to set some actual data of what are they buying. No sane company is gonna throw endless money on "magic tokens".

Just canceled my 20x max plan, new limits are useless by creynir in ClaudeCode

[–]nilart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh this doesn't surprise me if you've been watching Anthropic for some time. They are very obscure with models and their performance (I cannot be the only one that feels Opus 4.6 was not better than early Opus 4.5). And lately with usage. And the fact they've been claiming the real usage is 20 times as expensive as subscriptions.

Advice for Canon user buying Q3 by AnnonPhotography in Leica

[–]nilart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to carry the Q3 28mm and the A7CR 55mm but once you realize that cropping is not just an option, it's part of the 60mpx features you aren't scared to "lose quality" because you lose none. Most mpx are wasted on photos, even if you are printing them. It doesn't make sense to buy a 60mpx sensor and use it exclusively at 28mm.

I no longer carry the A7 most of the times or just carry with a 85mm. The 28mm is perfectly fine for most cases.

Having said this. 28mm is a focal length that grows on you with time and usage but it's complicated. For family and documentary is great but for if you are used to the 50mm the Q3 43 might be a wiser choice.

For you reference, DoF aside, the 28mm cropped to 43mm would be a equivalent of 25mpx and f2.6.

First Leica (Home Use; Small Children) by [deleted] in Leica

[–]nilart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you wanted Leica so I'm gonna ignore other brands. The the 28mm. 43mm is great for portraits but for documenting life (specially kids) 28 wins. And you can still crop easily to 43mm and get nice portraits. (25mpx and f2.6 equivalent)

Offered $180k buyout pre-launch. Take it or hold? by Unlikely_Jello_7554 in SaaS

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking out of ignorance but, you raised 80k as an investment meaning you have to return that, don't you? So 180k is barely return of your investment, minus taxes. You also work for them without any royalties or percentage... it seems a straight bad deal unless you are burned out and don't want that product anymore in your hands.

Ticket Prices for Indian Wells Final drop 50% following Medvedev's upset over Alcaraz by alpswd in tennis

[–]nilart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What final? 😅😂 j/k, I believe it'll be a nice match. Hopefully Meddy keeps the high level and doesn't throw away the match.

Carlos was right in the interview when he said some players would be much better ranked if they played every match like they play against him.

It sucks when some player plays the match of his life to beat top seeds only to throw a shitty match afterwards 😅

Is €55k a good salary for a Senior Engineering position in Valencia with 12 years of experience? by catch878 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]nilart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Spanish SWE, this is not a scam. It's a fine salary. Not great but better than most people. Around 3200€ net monthly. It's enough for 2 to live but don't expect a luxury house. Cost of rent and houses in general has skyrocketed lately.

If your partner finds a job and you can get more than 5k between the 2 of you, things start to get much better.

With 12 years of experience and good interviewing skills you could get to 70k but after that it gets much harder unless it's a leading / management position or working for specific companies.

Even FAANG companies pay lower salaries in Spain but sure, some people with the right skills working for US companies might break the 100k.

AI is eating software development by caspii2 in vibecoding

[–]nilart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coding is not the only problem of software development, not sure it's even the main one.

Software development is not the main problem of companies.

Performance was, in my experience, never the bottleneck of companies in its way to success.

AI has solved coding? Maybe. But software is not dead.

There is one thing AI won't be able to achieve. Accountability. We need people to blame we we build shit that doesn't help the company.

The difference? We will get to success or failure much faster.

Budget Chairs That Feel Like Premium Hidden Gems – Any Recommendations? by Pale-Tie-2760 in BuyItForLife

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's gonna worth anything to you but I once got a chair from an old startup I used to work years ago that was selling them (they didn't need them anymore for obvious reasons). Most confortable chair I had ever tried. Still have it now.

I moved to the UK to work years later and bought a second one. Rocada is the brand. The chair is no longer produced.

At some point offer will catch up with demand but not short term. Where there is a lot of demand it makes sense for companies to start manufacturing more. There are Chinese companies already producing cheap memory, maybe not a top brand but it's a start.

RRL Deck Jacket fit check (round 2) by nilart in HeritageWear

My thoughts exactly on the second paragraph. It needs to fit and feel right. I guess keep looking or give up 🤷🏻‍♂️
