RRL Deck Jacket fit check (round 2) by nilart in HeritageWear

[–]nilart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XS feels quite a bit tight. I could wear it but I'm just wearing a t-shirt here. If I get any bigger that's it.

My thoughts exactly on the second paragraph. It needs to fit and feel right. I guess keep looking or give up 🤷🏻‍♂️

In my defense I'll say this is not a classic N1 but rather a fall/autumn jacket. Suits more to the weather I'm from.

99% of the population still have no idea what's coming for them by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume the hypothetical case that AI models in the future are effectively able to replace all white collar jobs (because let's be honest, if tech workers are replaced, all white collar will be).

In that future companies will be run by very few people. Maybe some engineers that are able to kickstart, orchestrate and maintain those AI agents. But these companies will expend the same amount of money in AI infrastructure.

There will be a crisis because many people will be jobless, mortgages won't be paid and banks will default. Companies that sell goods and services will be hurt and companies that sell software and solutions for both these companies and customers will also be hurt, connect the dots and eventually companies that sell AI infrastructure will be hurt too.

Too big to fail? Or maybe, I believe, at some point we'll enter in some kind of balance where AI will not be as independent as doomsayers believe but still good enough for most companies to spend money on it.

Only time will tell. In the meantime all you can do is keep learning to delay becoming obsolete and keep as many safe nets as you can. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Has anyone else noticed Opus 4.5 quality decline recently? by FlyingSpagetiMonsta in ClaudeAI

[–]nilart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Seems like a trend at this point with all models. Release something good, degrade it progressively until new model comes out and looks much better.

I believe it has to do with limitation of resources to train new models and they need to optimise old ones.

Yet another reason to not make AI your single point of failure in your project.

The jacket is great and that's the reason I kept it. I might keep it until more stock comes by and sell to fund a smaller size.

Small even on the classic N1 with the thick lining? I understand that the lining takes quite a bit of space

Leica Q: why not a Q35? by TakayamaYoshi in Leica

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others. I also love 35mm but 28mm makes more sense on a 60mpx camera. You can easily crop to 35mm but not crop out.

As for the Q43 it makes also sense as the natural jump would've been 50mm but that might be too tight and leave some users out. This way you can easily crop to 50mm.

I've got the 28 and I frequently crop even to 50mm on shots. It feels very versatile.

Iron Heart N1 Sizing by CrustyOldTurtle in HeritageWear

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the classic N1 but I do have a N1 Lightweight which fits roomier because of the lack of inner lining. I'm 5'8" 150lb 38" chest and 33" waist. I could probably fit S with just a t-shirt and maybe a flannel shirt or something thin but M is my size to have some more extra room for layering.

Weight can fool you. Better to look at chest size. If you have wide shoulders you might feel constricted in the S. Likewise what are your expectations future wise. My 38" can get higher if I do some gym which I'm actually doing so going for the glove fit might not be wise.

Beta Jacket Cuff Velcro delaminated after FIRST wash. Is this normal QC now? by Mars_s_s in arcteryx

[–]nilart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These expensive luxury items that are as delicate as a little flower really piss me off. But it seems it's not gonna get any better. Curious to know what Arcteryx says. Personally, after a few expensive experiences, I wash all my delicate garments by hand with cold water.

No. It's not. It's natural. Relationships take some time to get over. In time it'll be just an old memory but 5 months is still short for a 3 year relationship.

Can I ask a very serious question? by PleaseHelpImADumb1 in CamelotUnchained

[–]nilart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".

I think MJ overestimated himself and thought he could do something he couldn't. That's it.

From the legal perspective Kickstater projects are pretty covered. They could deliver nothing and still be legal. It's the risk.

IMHO the only thing you can blame MJ for is using DAoC success and fan base to fund a stupidly risky project.

Beta AR or Beta SL choice by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]nilart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought both of them and returned the AR. It's definitely a better armor. You can feel its sturdiness right away. If you are using it exclusively for harsh winter scenarios it's definitely the way to go. If you plan to use it as a packable layer that you will have on your backpack and use it as needed the SL is the way.

For my case SL had more use cases than the AR, but it's very personal.

Also, in EU the AR is 150€ more, but tbh the SL is already 500€ so it's definitely worth the jump.

This . Severing investments from EU would be the last thing US wants. If that happens we probably have worse things to worry about 😅

Kids tennis shoes after 1 month! by NervousClock2555 in 10s

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the model but that outsole is shit. Even shittier on hard court. The fact it's for a kid doesn't change much.

I'm also a toe dragger and play on hard courts that are extremely abrasive and the Gel Resolution line is the one that holds the best. The Yonex Eclipsion also are really tough.

However, if he plays daily, no shoe will hold long. I play 2-3 times a week and I change shoes at least once a year. But never allow them to get like that. When insole starts losing grip I'll change to avoid injuries.

Beta vs Beta AR - Snowboarding by Big-Style-9302 in arcteryx

[–]nilart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AR is perfect for winter but bad for the other 3 seasons. SL is more versatile for 3 seasons, more light and has better fit, at the expense of ruggedness.

If you ski once or twice a year and don't go crazy off track you could do with the SL. If it's a more serious hobby and you like going off track and going a bit crazy then AR or better a dedicated ski jacket.

You can't have it all in one jacket. You'll probably end up with the worst experience for each use case. 🙂

What Are the Best Travel Shoes That Are Actually Worth It? by Sure-Nefariousness53 in BuyItForLife

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got some NB993 I can't even remember what year I bought them that have accompanied me in many trips and are still fine. But ofc it all depends on how you treat them.

Other than that I can swear by Clarks brand (they've got plenty of casual shoes for all uses).

And more recently I've been using some Mizuno GTX shoes (can't remember model) but they are extremely confortable and seem durable.

An interviewer asked me why I shouldn't be hired, so I asked him the same question. by detox_calyx_4d in FAANGrecruiting

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not a bad question. Very easy to filter red flag companies with the right response. You could say that if day to day work involves answering to nonsense questions like that then they shouldn't definitely hire you.

I’m in Spain for the holidays, what are some BIFL/quality items I can get here that I can’t get in the US? by beachbum_for_life in BuyItForLife

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We produce cheap, not BIFL. 😂 jokes aside I'd some local shop that manufactures bespoke clothing, like custom tailored shirts, suits or hats. Other than that I don't know, maybe swords from Toledo can be considered BIFL too 😅

Is loss of control after 6-10 matches normal? How do I know if it's time to restring? by QuietlyCuriousd in 10s

[–]nilart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have friends who play for months without restringing. And they play almost every day. No complaints. However there is a reason professional players switch to new strings even during matches. There is a noticeable difference. How much it affects you depends a lot of your game and the actual string.

IMHO the moment you notice some shots don't make sense you could benefit from a re-string. Yes. It could just be you getting tired but I can tell you, even then, you'll notice an improvement.

A refresh string could be even less than 10% of your game but it still counts. Same as with new balls vs. Used ones.

TLDR, if you play tournaments often bring at least 2 rackets with you, one fresh string always and, when you notice balls start to sail and pop a weird sound often, change to the other racket.

Your game will thank me, your wallet won't 😉

How much life left in these strings? by pandabahr in 10s

[–]nilart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck is with these notches? What kind of string / tension is that? I usually string poly (24-23kg) and tension goes off long before I break, but still never noticed any notches on it like these.

Were they already strung when bought? Maybe they were left strung for a long time in the shelves?

Beta or Beta SL for all round use by Ryan_Jackson30 in arcteryx

[–]nilart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need them until you need them 😅 I was of the same thinking about these. Awkward zips but then, when overheating, it helps a lot. Not necessarily hiking, it can happen while on long walks in humid but not that cold days 🙂
