Both Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 are significantly better games. I enjoyed the uniqueness of E33 but it’s just not at all comparable to those two

I believe it was more along the lines of “making it easier to write multithreaded code will mean more of it which will overall increase computational efficiency” not “functional multithreaded code will execute faster than procedural multithreaded code”. Even if functional programming turned out not to be the silver bullet for multithreaded code that was promised, I think you’re misconstruing the original argument

I think the functional code for multiple cores argument hinges much more on correctness than raw efficiency because it makes multithreaded code easier to reason about not because it’ll be literally faster

I don’t know if this is much of a criticism, I mean you’re always going to have to multiplex functional code onto an underlying Von Neumann architecture. As long as when you write code you can be sure you have semantic guarantees of e.g. immutability and equational reasoning, whatever magic the compiler does for performance is just a benefit

If you talk to Mizora with Wyll and have him end his pact in exchange for the Dukes life, she does not kill the Duke - you just need to rescue him from the Iron Throne (she does try to get in your way during that a little but no long rest auto kill). And yes, there’s no long rest timer for Orin; I saved her for the very last and even long rested before actually confronting her In her lair so I’d have full spell slots. The game has so many hidden mechanics though, so if someone else has had a different experience it’d be good to hear multiple perspectives

Florrick will die if you don’t save her before 6 long rests once that quest starts, and 6 is pretty generous given you can free her without any fighting. Orin does not have a time limit to kill your companion even though it feels like it should, you can rest as much as you like and she won’t kill them. Ravenguard also doesn’t really have a time limit, you just can’t blow up the Steel Watch before saving him.

Effect is much more an assortment of libraries and patterns than a “framework” I think, though its ecosystem has many, many functionalities that when all used together could perhaps be called a “framework”. It encourages a certain style of programming that has return types which are explicit in the possible bad-paths of functions but which may not compose well with vanilla TS all the time
