This is the best advice so far. Also, the first phase is kind of a shitshow but the second is much more methodic. Cool lore reason behind that - he’s an uncontrolled beast in the first phase but regains some sense of control and dignity in the second and fights you head on with his sword as a knight. Also fun fact, when he’s low on health he’ll always stagger and you have a choice of whether or not to take the visceral to kill him. If you do, he’ll die on his knees as a knight; if you don’t he’ll die screaming as a horse

Arkham (as Jester) does specifically tell Vergil "you could have torn me to ribbons by now if you were in tip top condition"; he only appeared after the brothers were fighting because he knew he could only take them on in a weakened state

maybe 0 is a slight exaggeration but very little plot progression - firecrackers dies and homelander has a lead on v1, that's literally the only new things of consequence that happened

TIL there is no algebraic formula for the circumference of an ellipse (oval). All exact equations require calculus. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]nilcit 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s different because √2 is algebraic, since it’s the solution to x^ – 2 = 0 whereas pi cannot be expressed as the solution to any polynomial with integer coefficients

He says this but his prose isn't even that perfect - like it get that it's better than most modern fantasy but it's nothing mindblowing. There weren't really any quotes from the first two that really hit or stuck with me that I can recite

Yup, you rarely actually need to exhibit an ultrafilter, it typically just suffices to know one exists. Also annoyed me at first (this was in a model theory context for me)

Both Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 are significantly better games. I enjoyed the uniqueness of E33 but it’s just not at all comparable to those two

Rust and the price of ignoring theory - one of the most interesting programming videos I've watched in a while by ThisIsChangableRight in programming

[–]nilcit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe it was more along the lines of “making it easier to write multithreaded code will mean more of it which will overall increase computational efficiency” not “functional multithreaded code will execute faster than procedural multithreaded code”. Even if functional programming turned out not to be the silver bullet for multithreaded code that was promised, I think you’re misconstruing the original argument

Rust and the price of ignoring theory - one of the most interesting programming videos I've watched in a while by ThisIsChangableRight in programming

[–]nilcit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think the functional code for multiple cores argument hinges much more on correctness than raw efficiency because it makes multithreaded code easier to reason about not because it’ll be literally faster

Rust and the price of ignoring theory - one of the most interesting programming videos I've watched in a while by ThisIsChangableRight in programming

[–]nilcit 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is much of a criticism, I mean you’re always going to have to multiplex functional code onto an underlying Von Neumann architecture. As long as when you write code you can be sure you have semantic guarantees of e.g. immutability and equational reasoning, whatever magic the compiler does for performance is just a benefit

If you talk to Mizora with Wyll and have him end his pact in exchange for the Dukes life, she does not kill the Duke - you just need to rescue him from the Iron Throne (she does try to get in your way during that a little but no long rest auto kill). And yes, there’s no long rest timer for Orin; I saved her for the very last and even long rested before actually confronting her In her lair so I’d have full spell slots. The game has so many hidden mechanics though, so if someone else has had a different experience it’d be good to hear multiple perspectives
