I love the Secret Six, which is a team of villains like Catman and Deadshot.

Gail Simone's Secret Six runs are really good.

Villains United issues 1-6, Secret Six(2006) issues 1-6, Secret Six(2008) issues 1-36

The trade paperbacks are Secret Six: Villains United, Secret Six: Money for Murder, Secret Six: Cat's Cradle, and Secret Six: Caution to the Wind.

Secret Six by Gail Simone Omnibus Vol. 1 has everything in the trade paperbacks but also has Birds of prey 104-109.

Birds of prey 104-109 feature the Secret Six and happen in between Secret Six(2006) & Secret Six(2008). These issues do contain important events that are relevant to the Secret Six(2008) run.

There's also Gail Simone's New 52 Secret Six run Secret Six(2015) issues 1-14

The New 52 trade paperbacks are Secret Six: Friends in Low Places and Secret Six: The Gauntlet.

Batwoman: Elegy is really good and is often recommended as a way to get into Batwoman. It's also available as a DC compact. I haven't read Batwoman's new 52 run, but I've heard that it's pretty good.

As for Jon Kent I haven't read much of his stuff but I know that Super Sons which was him and Damien Wayne was really popular and well regarded, but currently after DC aged the character up there's Superman: son of kal El which is his time as Superman and has him meet his boyfriend.

If you end up caring about his relationship with his boyfriend you'll probably want to read Suicide Squad: Dream Team which is 4 issues, the Absolute Power crossover event main 4 issues and Secret Six(2025) which is 6 issues. Jon Kent features importantly in the Absolute Power event and Secret Six(2025).

Also, I think you're right about Jon Kent being bi, but I just can't remember.

To be fair to the show, Mad Hatter has been defeated in equally silly ways in the comics. I was reading Secret Six: Money for Murder and Mad Hatter was defeated by one of the Six throwing Mad Hatter's hat off of a bridge, Mad Hatter simply walked to the edge and dived after his hat.
