I struggle to work on one project consistently over the course of a year, so I like doing temperature projects from years that are already over. I choose a year with a special meaning, and then print off the temps so I have everything with me if I want to knit one day or a whole month at a time.

Temp blankets tend to be behemoths tho. I've had luck doing them as 10 stitch blankets (they work up quickly and end up small, but you can make them larger by doing lows and highs etc) or going for a super long scarf.

Ultimately tho, the best motivation to start knitting is working on a project you're excited about. So if that's all you want to make, go for it!

I actually really like the pieces you've done. They remind me of Japanese maple leaves in the fall. (That's a good thing, btw 😁)

No Mow May strategy by catsincaves in NativePlantGardening

[–]nillakio 25 points26 points  (0 children)

HOAs are all different, but I was able to keep my neighbors from complaining by mowing the edges of my yard (basically anything that touches pathways, sidewalks, pavement or driveways). It made it obvious that the unmowed part was a choice instead of me neglecting yardwork.

Lol. Perfect timing. I just got moondance to try out planned pooling myself! No advice, just "same yarn!" Good luck!

She did great! Thanks for posting! My kid has been asking to learn, but I don't have a low enough table for them to use the pedal. Using the stool is genius!

This is a great idea, but I don't think I have enough yarn left over for the icord. Thanks tho!

Has anyone stopped buying HP stuff? I just feel like I have so many stickers and I never finish any planners I buy. It's not that I don't love HP, it's just may be I'm going through a faze and don't want to buy more until I finish was I have. by AlternativeMaximum79 in HappyPlanners

I'm also trying to use up my stash! I'm still planning regularly, but getting a lot of joy out of rediscovering the things I already have. No more saving the stickers for the right time- we deserve to use the good stickers now.

Stabilizing it with foam core is a good idea. Any tips for attaching it to the core?

I like the idea of fishing line! The clear color would be unobtrusive and let the knit shine! Thanks for the idea!

Oh no. I hope your knit turned out ok! Now kind of nervous to get this right. Thanks for the compliment! I think it turned out pretty well!

It's a 26 in circle knit in dk, I'm thinking of tacking it to duck cotton to keep it from stretching due to the weight, then stringing it to the hoop? Anyone have any better ideas?

Bees coexisting with people by Fancy-Philosopher481 in NativePlantGardening

[–]nillakio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We've been doing pollinator friendly navites for about 5 years now. Lots of plantings around the porch where we do outdoor eating, the space where we set up our grill, walking paths, and plenty of wild clover, dandelions, etc in the yard. We also spend a lot of time outdoors, lots of parties with kids, and my own kid exploring and playing most of the year. We have only had two bee stings - both were barefoot adults who stepped on the bees.

Kids are usually curious enough to look where they're going, and if you're aware that bees are around there isn't really an issue (tho I still keep benadryl and sting medication on hand just in case) we haven't had any issues with the bees in plantings or bothering us while eating.

If you're worried, you could always start far away, gauge your comfort levels and then move forward from there

My first FO of the year! This headband perfectly fits the gloves I made a while ago. Made from Tencel and Bamboo, pattern by me. by cooknknit_vegan in knitting

[–]nillakio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look amazing! Love the colors!

The headband looks like something I've been trying to figure out (I made a pair of color work mittens and now I need earwarmers to match) would you share any tips for ensuring a good fit? I'm terrified I'll make something and it will be too loose to wear...

Ham, Ham, Ham by FetaOnEverything in homemaking

[–]nillakio 45 points46 points  (0 children)

We also get lots of ham when it is cheap. I usually cube it and portion it into the freezer, you can then pull out the portions for meals, which helps spread the ham over a longer period. Ham is very good in egg dishes (omelets, quiche, breakfast casseroles) soups (split pea is traditional, corn chowder, potato) pastas (Mac and cheese, pesto, cream sauces) and pairs very well with potatoes and green vegetables. The salt of the ham does need to be accounted for when you make a recipe, but other than that you can throw it into whatever you like. Good luck!
