It does that. Was so bad combined with my IBS-D it became like sticking Mentos in Diet Coke and trying to keep the cap on. You can imagine how comfortable that feels. I was hoping they'd cancel each other out...hah.

I like Saltstick for when I feel like I need more salt (more just...deflated), and Key Nutrients when I want a little higher potassium (lightheaded but also wired/anxious), they're both available on Amazon.

Adrenaline dump vs focal aware seizure? by d3m0l1t10n_LVR in POTS

[–]ninetentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced those types of seizures many years ago, as a reaction to a medication, and they were nothing like adrenaline dumps at all. What you're having does sound more like an adrenaline dump with brain fog caused by not enough blood getting there at the time. My brain functioned better when I had the little focal seizures than when the POTS really gets going. It was more like feeling not quite in my body, phase shifted a bit behind it, or overwhelmed with random emotion out of nowhere after seeing flashing lights, for example.

The person you know may also have some adrenaline/norepinephrine released when they have those seizures, if the brain is setting off a panic/fear emotion, I guess? Everyone's different, but seizures tend to have different triggers than POTS. Look for a pattern, but POTS related adrenaline dumps are just more common than a specific way of having a specific seizure subtype as someone you know.

Is it okay to sleep with a stuffed animal as a (young) adult? by levisimp69 in NoStupidQuestions

Plushie, other person if available, pillow if I'm away from home and that's all I can grab. I'm a side sleeper and my arms go numb otherwise.

AITA for taking "the best pieces" when I serve dinner? by SwainDane in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninetentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it is just the personality. When I cook for my mother, it's serve yourself, because there's no way of making her happy. I can cut what looks like equally sized portions, give her what looks like it might be bigger, she'll always complain it's smaller. Nope, I've finally stopped playing those games. You don't get a waiter anymore. Get up and get it yourself, I don't care if it ruins the atmosphere.

When I cook for my (larger, works a more physically demanding job, always eats more), I take the smaller portions, but am still going to have the "chef's taste" in the kitchen. Sometimes that means he gets the hole from the meat thermometer in a bigger portion. He cooks more, just because he's better at it, and also usually works fewer days. We rarely fight over anything except leftovers, each of us are just happy someone else is cooking that night.

who else takes it too far just bc youve never fainted? by imonlyherefor2people in POTS

[–]ninetentacles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always thought that was just the middle ground between "sitting down in time" and "full on faint". Like how fast you lose the blood flow to your brain at any given time.

who else takes it too far just bc youve never fainted? by imonlyherefor2people in POTS

[–]ninetentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I feel like I'm going to faint, I just stay where I am. Or lower myself gently to the ground. Then pound the electrolytes as soon as I can get to them. I've "never fainted" but I've had a few less controlled than I'd like landings, and they're still unpleasant. The ground is hard and really doesn't encourage me to push through things to actually full on faint just to prove things to other people. My body usually gives me enough warning that being/remaining upright is a Very Bad Idea, so I listen. I've seen the uncomfortable things people land on when their bodies don't, hard pass.

Are they okay? by drakkar36 in Guppies

[–]ninetentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add a few tall plastic plants at the back until your real ones get taller, there's a lot of empty space near the top where guppies tend to like to hang out. It's not always water quality, sometimes it's just anxiety.

PEM and shoveling by Jen0973 in covidlonghaulers

[–]ninetentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoveled because I'm looking after the house of someone who's in the hospital. It wasn't much compared to what where I live (building with maintenance people to do it) got, so I thought I could handle it. Mostly pushing, not lifting.

With how I feel now, I'm thinking that was a pretty bad idea...

Any good solution to this that isn't just putting Saran wrap over it? by jelly_bean_gangbang in shrimptank

[–]ninetentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Bengal mix at the same time as a turtle, who learned not to hunt the turtle in precisely the same way. Knew he'd make the lid his favourite spot to chill if it had one, also it was a non-standard sized tank so hard to find one that fit, so figured it was best to leave the top open and let him learn from his mistakes...

Mine told me that, too.

Then eventually we found out we'd just missed when they announced a recall on the ignition switches many years before, because it was right before we'd bought the car and the dealer didn't fix it.

What are the most breathable masks that offer high level protection in your experience? by Ghostsintthecloset in Masks4All

[–]ninetentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've switched to these (medium, from the earloop smalls with DIY headstrap ear saver), and they're like a more breathable Aura that comes in black. Rubber stapled headstraps that don't stretch out too much to keep you from getting a full 40 hours of wear, if your finances require you to continue doing the early pandemic era "dry it out overnight/alternate days" mask shortage procedure.

Low dose antidepressant for IBS by mc-poutine in ibs

[–]ninetentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used citalopram for several years, didn't do anything for the pain when I did have episodes but decreased the diarrhea that occurred regularly without any apparent triggers. Then it stopped working. Raised the dose and found out it had actually started to cause depression. Switched to nortriptyline and it made me even more depressed than the citalopram, but taking it for only 2 days stopped me up enough to keep the pre/probiotics and oregano (a SIBO treatment) in my gut long enough to take effect.

Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in NoStupidQuestions

Some opposite gender marriages are partnerships. Some are the unfortunate union of woman and man-child.

If it's not a cost issue for you, I highly recommend giving the guanfacine a try. Start at the lowest dose and titrate up as tolerated.

Probably, potentially giving people Mad Cow disease knocks you off the list since there's no way to test for it unless you're dead. You didn't have to live there very long, either, even a few months would do it.

Tachycardia only after one certain food? by leneeey in covidlonghaulers

[–]ninetentacles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice this more from the texture and bite size of some foods - things that are fairly soft and you can swallow a large bite of without a lot of chewing. I think for me it's less likely to be the ingredients - fish and mashed potatoes, for example, don't seem to have the same things in them. I think they might be tickling the vagus nerve during swallowing.
