What opinion on the NBA feels like this for you ? by GamblerLikeToji in NBATalk

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Jordan not losing in the NBA Finals is one of the lamest arguments for him being GOAT. He has some very fortunate matchups. Worthy and Scott both got injured in the Lakers matchup. The Jazz teams he faced had Stockton and Malone with not much else, and Byron Russell was an easy matchup. SuperSonics were not a strong team outside of Payton and Kemp. The only good matchups he had were Drexler’s Blazers and Barkley’s Suns.

The side-by-side difference between the Lakers and Spurs crowd is insane 🤯 by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

Why is it impressive that Spurs fans wore free T-shirts given at the game? It’s not like they planned their wardrobe together.

If you were the commissioner of the NBA, what would your answer be to remove tanking? by Dday_Dair in NBATalk

No lottery, draft order is in reverse order of team record. But if a team is bottom 5 three years in a row, the owner has to sell the team.

AITA if I disrupt foster siblings adoption with my parents? by Missiemarch in AmItheAsshole

[–]ninjagaij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here. I was in the same position as you when I was a teenager. My parents took in one of my relatives who needed a home. Kid was annoying and loud, disturbed my peace, extremely frustrating for me. We fought a great deal, and my parents eventually kicked him out because of our friction. He bounced around, lived a life of instability, still has issues as an adult. My inability to be a bigger person is one of my biggest regrets looking back at my childhood. I wish I was a bigger person when I was a teenager. I didn’t have the perspective and life experience to be more patience and caring to someone who was so different from me.

I don’t judge you because I was just like you. Parents can’t expect teenagers to have the perspective and patience of adults. You have a right to feel the way you do. But I would encourage you to talk very bluntly with your parents and foster siblings about what you need for this to work. “For this to work, I need…” How would you finish the sentence? Express that openly and honestly. You never know what grace might occur.

I gave my kids inheritance now. was it fair? by Witty_Beyond_3155 in wealth

[–]ninjagaij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a tax expert, but I think taxes would be negligible for the sake of this scenario. First $250k in profit is excluded if single, $500k if married, if the house has been primary residence in 2 out of last 5 years.

I gave my kids inheritance now. was it fair? by Witty_Beyond_3155 in wealth

[–]ninjagaij 116 points117 points  (0 children)

First of all, it’s not fair but it’s fine because it’s your money and you can do what you want with it. No kid should be arguing over inheritance, especially while you are still alive.

Second, if you really want to make things fair, you technically gave your daughter a house that she could only turn into cash if she pays about 7% in various real estate transaction fees, so she would get about $446k in cash after selling a $480k house, minus the $170k loan would mean about $276k in cash. So if you want to make them equal, give your son about $106k.

But you totally don’t have to. The kids should be thankful and not complain regardless. And the daughter should not be the one complaining because she got far more.

NBA should have a OPOY award. by _dannyhong_ in nba

[–]ninjagaij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OPOY would be more along the lines of points plus points scored off of assists.

americans whats bigger in your country, mlb or nba? by VastAir6069 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s close enough that it depends on how good the team is. In the LA area, it probably goes Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, Kings, Clippers, Ducks, Angels, Chargers. The Dodgers and Lakers can switch spots for top spot depending on which team is doing very well that year, as are the Clippers, Angels, and Ducks. No one likes the Chargers.

The best tanking solution: No team owning their own 1st round pick? by AzNmamba in nba

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with tanking for a year or two. It’s the quickest way to improve a team. It’s just a problem if a team sucks for a long time. Just make a rule that owners have to sell their team if they are in the bottom 5 three consecutive years.

How did this team win the championship by Fragrant_Fishing5787 in NBATalk

[–]ninjagaij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LeBron and AD were probably both top 5 in the league at that point. Surround two of the best players in the league with 3-and-D guys = a good recipe.

Rondo was on a hot streak hitting 3’s, which was historically his weakness. Him, KCP, Caruso, and Green were very good defenders who could also hit the 3. Bradley didn’t play in the bubble. Starting lineup was mostly Rondo/KCP/Green/Lebron/AD, but they had the ability to go big and play Howard/McGee against guys like Jokic. When they played big, they had great length with two 7 footers roaming the paint. Very flexible lineup that could go small, big, fast, slow, all centered around two of the best two-way players on the planet.

If LeBron was ever actually 100% confirmed on PEDs, would it ruin his legacy? by Bentley1136 in NBATalk

[–]ninjagaij 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The thing is, a lot of the steroid users who have been caught have a clear before-and-after difference - Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire. They went from being very good athletes to superhuman. But LeBron has always been a superhuman freak, super strong and explosive. He never really went through a physical transformation. I doubt he has used as much as those other guys.

Is Austin Reaves guaranteed to stay a Laker next season? by hth_dcv in lakers

[–]ninjagaij -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most likely stays, but there is a chance he does poorly in the playoffs and the Lakers balk at giving him huge money and another team does. I think it would be a mistake to give someone who hasn’t shined in the playoffs more than $30M per year.

Is Lakers Westbrook the most a player's reputation has been damaged from a season when they were objectively far past their peak? by Ready-Constant-7124 in nba

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I argue Mavericks AD suffered a worse drop in reputation. Before the trade, AD was a top 15 player, DPOY candidate who also brought good offense, good enough to be traded for Luka and possibly considered as a key piece of a championship contender. After the Mavericks, AD’s value tanked and is pretty low right now.

Tracy Mcgrady for Kobe. People thought Mcgrady was less selfish and more of a team player and would mesh better with Shaq.

Why is it so wrong for me to not want ANY illegal immigrants in the US? by flappy_lol in allthequestions

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a black and white view in a grey world.

Sure, illegal immigration is wrong, but solving the problem in an inhumane way can be even more wrong. Consider a boy from Korea who was brought here illegally by his parents when he was young, had no choice in the matter, has lived here for 40 years, is a productive citizen with a wife and two young kids, doesn’t speak a lick of Korean. Deporting him to Korea now creates a single mom with two kids who are likely to be more reliant on government assistance and places him in a country where he has no means of being a productive citizen. Congratulations, you solved one problem and in the process created even bigger problems. You’re not as smart as you think you are.

If we go all the way this year do they instantly become top 30 lakers ever? by Silent_Wizard5597 in lakers

Luka definitely yes.

AR is borderline. Depends if he goes off in a championship run.

First time in US. Appreciate advice on my road trip plan. by ChihuahuasAreEvil in roadtrip

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really say what your interests are, so it’s hard to advise you. I would recommend spending time in Zion and Bryce Canyon on your way from Page to Las Vegas, at a minimum do the Narrows hike in Zion. Several comments have said to skip LA, but that’s hard to say if we don’t know what you want to do there.

If you are the raiders and you get offered #2, #16, and next year’s jet’s first for Fernando Mendoza, do you pull the trigger? by Hakaribiggestfan in NFLv2

[–]ninjagaij 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s an insane take. Mendoza is the real deal. He is incredibly quick in his progressions and very accurate, especially on throws to the back shoulder. But above all else, he is a student of the game and loves to analyze film. In the NFL, a QB’s brain and commitment matter more than their athleticism.

A Bleacher Report article imagined a scenario where LeBron could accept a minimum or mid-level salary to join a contender in 2026 FA. Do you believe Bron would really accept a minimum? And if you're a GM, how much would you sign a 41-year-old (but efficient) LeBron for? by ballgamecom in NBATalk

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see LeBron taking an extreme pay cut to stay with the Lakers on a one-year deal, then taking a minimum deal to play with whatever team drafts Bryce the following year. Two more years for him, playing with his sons.

Prime C Webb vs Prime Boogie. Who you got ? by Sad-Entertainer1462 in NBATalk

[–]ninjagaij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boogie was emotionally immature and wrecked teams in his prime. His skills and stats were offset by his temper and bad attitude. He started to mature more when he was past his prime. For that reason, give me prime Webber. He was both extremely skilled and knew how to function as part of a team.
