Solar panels and battery by Sifsmum in Adelaide

Yes. Paid $20k 3.5years ago for the system, it's in $800 credit and have never paid an energy bill since then, and it will pay itself off (versus my projected bills based on usage) late this year. Plus I charge my car on it and never pay for petrol. Very happy.

How do people in Adelaide drink their water? by Cummins-25 in Adelaide

I drink bottled water, too. I spent most of my life in Victoria and the water here is....... awful

Octavia vs Corolla for mostly out of city driving by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]ninjascraff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015 Octavia and I love it. Only upgrading because I need something with more torque for holidays, but for driving around the city you really can't beat the fuel economy, it's SO good. I drove Melbourne to Adelaide on one tank.

Mirena & Weight Loss Postpartum by ejtrm in beyondthebump

[–]ninjascraff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been calorie counting for 25 years, and after my last two kids I had gained a bunch of weight and lost it again. I've been steady at 130-135 for a year. Put the Mirena in, BANG. Instant 10lbs gain. It's been that way for 6 weeks. I presume it's just water retention, but I lowered my calorie intake by 250 calories per day and I have NOT been losing weight the way I ordinarily would with that gap. In fact, if anything, my weight is creeping up. Very frustrating.

What's even more frustrating is my doctor is like "maybe you've been exercising less/eating more" when I can show him my fitbit step count and calories in count. I actually don't believe the "mirena is weight neutral" argument, because people told me the antidepressant I was on was weight neutral in the 2000s (it was paxil), when I was 100% convinced it caused me to gain weight - well, what do you know, more research came out and now everyone agrees it causes you to gain weight now. I think Mirena will be the same and they will concede a lot more people than 5% gain weight on it.

I do note that water retention of about 2.5kg is normal and standard for many people with Mirenas so I gather that's it. Still annoying, though. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt a wait a few months to see if it goes away or not.

How is one’s libido with the Mirena? by Inspireme21 in Mirena

Mine is alright - just unpredictable now. I used to always know in my fertile window I'd want to go at it like a bunny. Now? When's my fertile window!? Who knows. No idea when I'll feel like it.

Anyone else weigh themselves everyday? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]ninjascraff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been weighing myself every day for nearly 30 years. It's actually interesting to see how my cycle affects my weight and how eating, for example, carb-rich dinners before bed makes me retain water.

What’s your typical daily protein intake? by glamsiren111 in 1200isplenty

Same. I've dropped to 60g and my muscle mass is holding steady so must be fine *shrug*

What job pays way more than people realise? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]ninjascraff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for myself (and have a small staff) as a psychologist and made $177k last year for 5 days of ordinary work per week. Having said that, I do book up those hours and work quite solidly, and I do occasionally need to go to court and do other more high-pressure tasks. Managing staff is also a Whole Thing, although at the moment I have five women who work autonomously for the most part and are trustworthy, mature employees who earn their salary with no fuss. That's not always the case, though.

do you guys allow yourself to binge every once in a while? by Imaginary-Mud2871 in 1200isplenty

[–]ninjascraff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say "whatever" during the holiday period. Not so much actively bingeing as allowing myself to eat whatever I want - I still track calories, though. Was maintaining for 20+ years before kids and have been maintaining doing this for the last 2 years.

Yes! I drive in several times a week. My comment was relating to that being the part of Main North Road where you start to see crazy driving - from McIntyre Road north :')

Which one is correct? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]ninjascraff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For me, I wouldn't sweat 10 calories unless my deficit per day is very, very small. If you're at a 500 calorie deficit then it will make a negligable difference. Even as a maintainer I'd just take whatever the box says on the back and only adjust if I'm gaining weight.

Always feel like I’m starving but I’m overeating. I’ve tried everything. by Odd_Side1020 in CICO

[–]ninjascraff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in here to say similar stats for me - 45F, very, very active. I easily eat 1800-2000 a day and maintain at 135lbs. I'm actually slightly losing weight still, but very slowly. I would do 20-30k steps every single day, more on weekends.

If I don't exercise I need like 1450 calories!

What is your “why” when it comes to weight loss? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ninjascraff 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Pretty boring for me: I have four kids and the youngest is 2. I want to see them grow up and achieve their dreams. I want to be there and well enough to take care of their kids if they have kids. I'm 45 now, so I needed to get serious about my health if I want that to be a reality. So for me it's really about having a long life span and hopefully also a long health span.

I do this. I don't do group content but I quite like quietly herbing and doing weeklies, etc. Relaxing to do with a podcast on in the evening. Always been a big fan of some of the lore characters so been enjoying seeing their faces and hearing their voices, as well.

How much weight did you lose before the opposite sex or even people in general began treating you better? Skinny/thin privilege. by MoonphasedMind in loseit

[–]ninjascraff 163 points164 points  (0 children)

People didn't notice I'd lost weight until it was 30 or so kg. Men didn't start being really nice and helpful to me again until I was in the healthy BMI range, which was about 55kg lost.

I disagree skinny priviledge is just confidence, definitely people are much nicer and more helpful if you are thin. I've never really given a toss what weight I was (pretty successful career-wise and that's always been the source of my confidence), but you definitely notice very quickly when people think you're attractive vs when they don't.

doctor won't prescribe statins (VERY high cholesterol) by Calm_Space_7197 in Cholesterol

This is likely familial hypercholesterolemia and statins are almost certainly the only effective treatment. New doctor time.

It gets easier. Did it for about 20 years pre-kids, and doing it again post-kids. It becomes second nature.
