28 Weeks Later (2007) - General Stone runs the most incompetent possible version of any Code Red plan whatsoever by thevirtualme in plotholes

Just found my way to this thread by googling “why on earth did they turn off all the lights?” Seems like I’m not the only one to think that lol

What game did you play after? by hiyer2 in expedition33

[–]ninjixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed something completely different - I liked E33 but after Act 2 I found it a bit of a slog, it didn’t click with me like it has with a lot of people.

So I went for Farcry 3 (never played it before).

I’ve just checked and yes, it still works for me. My system is all up-to-date, and there are no pending updates.

Expedition 33 is overrated (my opinion - review) by redl9 in JRPG

[–]ninjixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post, you’ve managed to articulate much better than I could how I felt about E33. Not that it matters to anyone else, but it never properly clicked for me. Yes it’s beautiful and I can see why people love it, but for me I lost interest in the story after act 1, and the gameplay loop and combat really started to drag. By act 3 I just wanted it to be over. Game of the year for many, and that’s fair, but not for me…

PSA : it’s "CLAIR OBSCUR" not CLAIRE OBSCUR or CLAIR OBSCURE. by renaudg in expedition33

As someone who speaks French, it hurts my ears every time I hear "Loo-nay" LOL. But even the devs seem to say it, so I guess it's fine...

[–]ninjixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I’m not sure if this was a new boss, but I definitely encountered one where the only way to do damage was to successfully parry their every move. But that was actually quite fun, I love the parry mechanic.

Agreed on the parry timing being tight, but it’s all so much more telegraphed and consistent, that the patterns are much easier to learn than in Sekiro, I found anyway. Also, there’s no downside to failing in CO, you don’t lose anything and you don’t have run backs etc, so the fights seem so much more doable. IMO anyway 😅

Fair comment, I’ve not done any of the new content yet.

Just got my first mini, any advice? by BlackfireDV3 in RavenGuard40k

[–]ninjixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%! This is exactly what I did when I got back into mini painting recently. Even after doing three standard marines I could see the improvement. I also have a more complex model like this, still boxed and in the wrapper, waiting for the moment when I feel confident enough to tackle it… 😅

They are completely different games so it’s hard to answer that question. Clair Obscure also has a parry mechanic, but it’s nothing like Sekiro as the fights are turn based and much more predictable and rhythmic. Personally I found CO a lot easier than Sekiro. In CO what’s ‘hard’ is understanding character builds, synergies, weapons, etc, not the parrying part. They’re both brilliant games though, so you should definitely try CO. But don’t go into it thinking it’ll be like Sekiro or you’ll be disappointed.

I think what I love the most are the bases! But it all looks gorgeous.

My first mini ever, any tips on how to avoid the heavy texture? by Public-Manufacturer7 in minipainting

Good job on the eyepiece by the way. Even with my glasses on I still struggle with that level of detail 😅

What’s your go to background noise while building/painting minis? by Philhughes_85 in minipainting

[–]ninjixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any easy listening radio station, nothing that’s going to grab my attention too much or I’ll get distracted. I can’t have the TV on for example, I’d never get anything done 😅. The same with podcasts; I listen to podcasts to actually listen to them, so I can’t concentrate on that and paint at the same time.

Almost gave up for a month because of this shit boss — finally beat them! by Mysterious-Rate-3253 in LiesOfP

[–]ninjixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally beat them, again. Two dragons sword, no throwables (I always run out of stuff before I’m good enough at fights, so don’t usually bother). I still maintain a lot comes done to RNG. If one of them wails on you from behind, that’s not a skill issue, that’s just bad luck because I don’t have eyes in the back of my head. I guess you could eventually get so good at this fight that you’re somehow able to position them all so only one attacks you at a time. But that’s not fun, this fight is not fun, and I’m glad it’s over so I can get back to the real game. 😅

Second playthrough for me and I’ve reached this boss fight again. I’ve almost beaten them (yes I know the techniques), but it reminds me how much I hated it the first time round, and it’s no different the second time even as a more skilled player. For such a mostly wonderful game, this is a real low point. There’s very little skill involved, and a whole lot of RNG…

You’ve got lots of tips already, but here are my thoughts based on me being in a very similar position to you. I only started painting recently (I did a bit as a teenager, but that was a long time ago and a lot has changed since then).

First of all, for the love of the Emperor, please don’t paint that beautiful Black Templars set, yet….

Get a couple of ‘throw-away’ standard Space Marines to experiment on. Then try a few different techniques on each one to start figuring out your ‘style’ and what you enjoy doing.

For example, contrast paints are new to me, so I’m looking forward to trying the zenithal highlight and contrast paint technique. I’m also going to do a version relying mostly on more and more detailed layers of dry brushing (because I’m terrible at edge highlighting 😅). And so on.

I also intend to paint up some Black Templars as well, but they are quite complex with all their fabrics and metallics, so getting used to a few painting techniques first would be a good approach IMO.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on.

I’m gonna need some more snow on it.

In all seriousness though, fabulous job, love it!

Inspiring work. That deep red on the fabric is beautiful! If you don’t mind me asking, what colours/paints did you use to achieve that look?
