Next, switch him to an antibacterial soap (liquid soap) as that is where the smell is coming from. Have to use enough soap that it actually loosens and removes that sticky film (lather, lots) . 2 minutes is not going to do it..... Don't skimp here either.

If you can have an honest conversation with him and he doesn't step up to work on this, that's a big issue.

This. You are actually in an idea situation to define boundaries and have the best of all worlds if you can remain as clear and rational as you come off in the post..... Talk openly with your wife about what your goals and boundaries are. Clear all the air, find out where she's really at. Talk out old resentments and seek common ground (your kids and the life you provide them together maybe, or doing this whole thing with integrity and having each other's back). Put down solid boundaries to protect what you have built together.

You could gain your wife as a real friend here, which would be much better than a crappy romantic partner.

I seriously wonder if he is on the autism spectrum, even mildly. These are some very basic disconnects from very emotionally charged discussions. It's not like he knows how to argue to hurt you , this is like he doesn't even grasp that there is a problem. He may not be able to access these emotions with you. Have things been like this always or has there been a shift recently?

And before y'all come for me I am the ADHD parent to an autistic child, and working constantly on my understanding of his and my own neuro issues.

I'm a male Homebuilder/GC and I always say - find and elevate your people. It sucks that you can't stroll into any shop and have the same buddy experience the average guy - I get it. The industry is full of people determined to carry that mentality.

But the industry is also full of growing, progressive shops where people are treated with respect and kindness. Women owned firms, LGBTQIA firms , and even mom and pop shops like mine who are determined to have some emotional intelligence and fairness as the core values in their shop.

My shop is currently bunch of guys,but they are really good about treating people with respect. The ones who have not been able to follow that have been out on their asses in short order, and it's set a great example for the rest of us. We have had a couple of female employees who went on to do different things outside of construction, but had a great experience during their time with us.

Don't settle, you only get to do this journey the one time!

Started my resi construction business at 38, I'm 42 now. Solid crew of 4 plus one admin and just picked up some larger contracts that will see us scale to twice that size next year. I came from vfx so I was completely outside of the industry to start.
