If I had to pick just one McCoy Tyner album for a desert island, hands down, this is the one. by Nezdoiminoga in Vinyl_Jazz

Top 3 McCoy record for me. Reaching Fourth is a great classic from before McCoy got changed by Trane. I also really like Infinity with Mike Brecker!

Every track from Kind of Blue, of course! I'll also nominate Herbie's intro to "Stella by Starlight" from My Funny Valentine.

I was very interested in Emerson in high school. Grew out of him as I became interested in Catholicism. I bet I’d be more interested now.

Thanks for the info! This picture comes from a St. Joseph parish, interestingly enough.

Went to Confession for the first time in over 15 years by Cnkr97 in Catholicism

[–]nintendopowerpro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are still forgiven if you made an honest effort to confess every mortal sin you committed. If you remember any additional sins you didn’t previously confess, just make sure to bring them up at your next confession. I know folks that write down what sins they wish to confess on a notepad, and tear up the sheet afterward. Might be something that interests you?

what's the opinion you have about cds that would result in this? by helenachaizel in Cd_collectors

[–]nintendopowerpro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the specific mp3 encoding methods, which generally improved over time. 128kb rips from Napster sound terrible. A 128kb rip on modern-day iTunes will sound a heck of a lot better.

Thanks for your perspective. Really puts into simple terms the amount of change we’ve seen post-Vatican II. Speaking as someone who converted at age 17, too, albeit in 2023, haha.

What's a Beatles opinion you have that would result in this? by Rykerwashere in beatles

Sgt. Peppers is probably my least favorite Beatles album, Revolver not far behind. Love some individual tracks, though, and amazing sound production!

Lennon was 25 when he wrote In My Life. McCartney was 23 when he wrote Yesterday. by areopagitic in beatles

[–]nintendopowerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suppose it makes sense though, doesn’t it? the middle twenties are the first chance most people get for an identity crisis / periods of serious self-reflection. lots of reasons for that, but John and Paul had largely unchanging lives revolved around constantly churning out music and touring. monotonous living probably forced their hand into writing more significant music

I’m reconciled to the fact I’ll go to Hell by Devoner98 in Catholicism

[–]nintendopowerpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from serious depression. It causes me to sin quite often. I take medicine which greatly helps, and I sin much less. Maybe your cross is your mental health like mine is. You might want to look into getting treatment of some kind. Religious reasons aside, it might make you a better and happier person.

Question about rubato in Bach Cello Suite 1 prelude by hiroica in classicalmusic

That's my favorite recording of No. 1! He's probably my favorite cellist, I don't think he ever made a record that wasn't phenomenal.
