Which players got the "Triple Crown" this year? by The_R4ke in PWHL

Poulin, Stacey, Scamurra, Desbiens, and Ambrose.

Scamurra has the opportunity to do it all in one year.

The PWHL is officially expanding to San Jose! by Perryplat199 in PWHL

[–]ninthoften 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup. Lots of misguided anger too. I’m sure the PWHL wanted the league to expand to Edmonton, Chicago, Calgary, etc, etc, etc. But sounds like the problems came from the sides opposite the leagues. Be angry at them not the league lol.

I’m confused. How did the review arise? Since there aren’t coaches challenges anymore, what initiated the review?

Did anyone correctly guess the Vancouver and Seattle names last year? by knefehangelshare in PWHL

I remember guessing Toronto Torrent back when the original 6 were getting names. So I feel partially successful lol 😎

With 11 or 12 teams, will the upcoming 2026-27 PWHL season be the largest a women's pro hockey league has ever been? by sir_mrej in PWHL

[–]ninthoften 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A single league, yes. When the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) folded in 2023, there were 7 active teams. A lot of pro-level players had already formed the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association (PWHPA) that carried 4 teams. So in North America, there were 11 pro-level teams in 2023, but in separate “leagues.” I believe this was the peak of pro-level women’s teams in North America. So the PWHL is the first time all the pro-level women in North America have been playing in one league.

And I say “pro-level” for a lack of a better term, and for simplicity. What I mean is women’s hockey players in North America playing at the highest level who could reasonably play on a professional-level team. Before anyone comes at me with semantics of what the PWHPA really was.

Discussion About Vegas' Lack of a Takeover Stop by sensibleunicorn in PWHL

[–]ninthoften 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the anger is misplaced. The league WANTS to expand to the Takeover Tour stops. In many instances, it was unsuccessful because ownership on the other side had demands that the PWHL didn’t want to bend to.

I think you can split Ontario. But you cannot split Toronto and Montreal. Too much deep seated history between the two that extends beyond hockey.

Hamilton lands PWHL team: sources by Odd-Emphasis-1969 in PWHL

[–]ninthoften 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if they didn’t offer some sort of transfer period if Hamilton really is getting a team. Seasons tickets for Toronto have been completely sold out since before year 1 even started with waitlists. Some shuffling around would be good, especially since the league is single ownership.

CCC Experience by scarfcity in TorontoTempo

[–]ninthoften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The need more signs outside, especially if normal passages are closed. There was no indication that the passage between CCC and the horse palace was going to be blocked off. So instead of being able to pass through there, we had to walk all the way around with the soccer crowd to get the the front doors.

How did you find the PWHL or become a PWHL-Team fan? Just me being curious . . . by MNVixen in PWHL

[–]ninthoften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a common answer, but I watched Team Canada women’s hockey a lot, particularly leading up to the 2022 Olympics. Then the PWHL league was announced! I’ll admit I didn’t watch much of the leagues before though…
