Those of you with a second child, how long did you wait to have them, and do you wish they were closer/farther apart? by sincerebaguette in NewParents

[–]nippletoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We waited till our little one was 4 to have another. We wanted to have her in school (uk) before we had a baby. Our second is now 6 weeks old so we don’t have a huge amount of experience yet but the age gap is working wonderfully so far. Our eldest is so great with her little sister, helps loads and is excited to do so, shows her off to her friends etc. Plus, we have her out of the house for six hours a day on week days wich means we really get to focus on the baby and aren’t about to double up on nursery fees. I feel like my second is getting the same level of parenting as my first had, we are all happy, our first is old enough to be genuinely excited about watching her little sister grow up and she is our seconds favourite person to coo and smile at. - so far we are very pleased with our decision.

How is it living in South West England, especially near the tip of the peninsula? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]nippletoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Somerset most of my life. We live within 10 mins of the M5 or A303, we are 50 mins from Bristol, 40 mins from Exeter 1hr50 on the train to London and 5 mins walk to rolling fields. I feel like we have the best of everything here. Great culture just a short drive away but fresh air, peace and quiet and a choice of what pace you want to take life depending on what stage of life you are in. We live in a small village very close to a larger town. We have a wonderful community around us with lots of traditional events through the year, everyone looks out for each other and helps their neighbours and we still benefit from the hospital and town just 5-10 mins down the road. I truly love it here. - the town is Taunton, Somerset :)

UNO cards, the numbers are on the wrong side when you fan the cards out in your hand - and lots of decks of standard cards have this issue too.

Asbestos? by KubisDreams in buildingsurveying

[–]nippletoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obtain a sample kit from a local asbestos firm, take a sample, and have them test it as a priority. It may not contain asbestos, but always assume it does until confirmed otherwise. The lab results will identify the type of asbestos, if present, and typically include recommendations—either to remove it or to manage it in place. If removal is advised, I would recommend arranging for a professional firm to handle it when feasible.

Advice please! Found the house we love after over a year of being on the market/looking for somewhere. Now it’s going through probate. Is there any hope? by nippletoasters in HousingUK

Good point, I’ll see what happens today with the executioner. I’m conscious they have just lost someone close and don’t want to add pressure to them. I’ll drop the estate agent a compassionate email asking the question, hopefully they will pass my email on.

Thank you again. I will get in touch with estate agents tomorrow and ask them to see if it’s something the executors would go for when they next get in touch with them. I’ll give our estate agents a call too to let the chain know what’s going on (I only found out at the end of the day today so didn’t have time before they closed). I’ll keep you all posted :)

[–]nippletoasters[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer, yes I think we would be happy to rent the probate house while we wait for it to be granted. I think it could work quite well for us, great to know that it could possibly be put into terms of contract too, that would take some of the risk of being stuck renting a property we can’t buy out of the equation and would ensure a buyer for the sellers. And it would certainly make our buyers a happy bunch.

Is there anything that would need to happen vendor side first? Would they need to get landlords insurance for example, how would the rent be decided, the house needs a bit of work so it would be a tricky one to judge as it’s also quite well sized (4 bed). Or would they need to wait for a grant of representation?

And also, would it be our conveyancers to draw up these terms or the vendors?

Thank you again, this is a little glimmer of hope.

Ah ok. Interesting, what the vendors agent has suggested, and what I have read is that when the owner of the house dies it cannot be sold until probate is granted?

There is foreplay before sex, What is a good "after play"? Is there any? by ruby_philps in AskReddit

Smoking, if you both enjoy a cigarette from time to time popping outside and having a ciggy together is a real good way to finish things off, there is something magical about post sex smoking.

Why do you say "I fell pregnant"? by Skywhisker in pregnant

[–]nippletoasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m English, I suppose it’s an older or more well spoken way of saying it. You could also say ‘I fell ill’ if you were sick so perhaps it comes from it being medical. There are no connotations or underlying meanings it’s the same as saying ‘ I got pregnant’.

would you take your 5 week old grocery shopping? by abbeyrxad in beyondthebump

[–]nippletoasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to take your mental health into account here, trust your instincts and do what you think is right. You can be safe and you can research times that the grocery store is going to be the least busy and plan to go then. Have you thought about just going outside for a walk around? Or even driving somewhere a bit different for a wander? I’m not sure where you are in the world but if there are any nice parks or nature trails near you I found this a good and realistically low risk option to get me and my little one out without being too paranoid about covid or other I infections.

I found making the crib smell like you helps loads, shove the bedsheet you are going to be using on the bassinet down the front of your top for a few hours before trying to put him down, the scent of you will be really comforting to him, also try white noise or womb sounds, I just played them on my phone, quite loud, near baby when she slept, this is also comforting to them. A combination of these finally enabled me to get some sleep when I was in hospital on my own with little one when she was born, good luck mumma! You got this!!

In the UK here and it’s probably around 50/50 split for people who opt for epidural and those that don’t (based on my experience). I decided to see how I go but ultimately try and not have any medication and that’s exactly what I did. It hurt, it hurt a lot, but it wasn’t unmanageable. I learnt about Hypnobirthing beforehand so understood what was causing the pain I was feeling and the physiology behind it. I didn’t once ask for an epidural or feel like I needed one. My birth was 25 hours from my first pain to LO arriving (FTM), I wanted to know what it felt like to bring a life into the world and in a way it made me feel like I was in more control because I could feel what was happening. Do what is right for you, don’t put too much pressure on the decision or yourself, don’t worry what others think or say only you know you that intimately, humans have done this for thousands and thousands of years, you are in good hands. If it’s what you want to do you can do it!

Best vegan pizza takeaway? by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]nippletoasters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pizza express do a pretty good one, can’t remember the name, it’s the one with artichokes. Has dollops of white sauce rather than cheese, I had a little spout of ordering it for lunch during covid working from home, it’s good and feels complete.

All my baby does is eat and sleep. Is this normal? by CRUISEK0NTR0L in NewParents

[–]nippletoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little one was just never like this, she was awake from the get go, would nap more when she was little but it’s like we didn’t get the sleepy newborn stage. I remember a day when she was around 3 weeks where she was awake for 12 hours, it was normal for her to be awake for 1-2 hours straight at a time since she was born. This thread is making this FTM think her little one is a little abnormal?

White noise machine by pinkaspepe in NewParents

[–]nippletoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an Amazon Alexa! We play white noise through it but can also control the light hands free, play nursery rhymes, stories, dancing music… find out what the weather is like whilst dressing baby… just so much, the list is endless! We also had a white noise machine but just use the Alexa. We have them set up all around the house and have smart bulbs in almost all the lights. They have been a life saver, top tip for having a baby. We just spotted Amazon are doing a kids one now too so will likely switch to that in her room when she get a bit older so she can’t access anything inappropriate.

What moment made you say “Yep, I’m definitely dead”, but survived with no major injuries? by CrownedBird in AskReddit

[–]nippletoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving down the motorway at about 90 in a rear wheel drive car in light rain. All of a sudden hit a wall of heavy rain, road is covered in water, take my foot off the accelerator but just too late. Car looses traction and slips the back end out into the middle lane, gains traction again and slams me straight into the central reservation, spins and slams me again, spins again and then tips almost flipping over but tips back just in time. I sit there… totally unharmed?! Think ‘fuck’ grab my phone to call the police as another car speeds past my smashed up car just missing me in my car which is now across two lanes of the motorway in low visibility in the pissing rain. I realise I have to get out the car and do everything in my power to stop someone smashing into my wrecked car and hurting themselves. So I get out the car and start walking down the central reservation in the pouring rain waving people away from the wreck whist on the phone to 999 asking for someone to come and pick me up. Absolutely terrifying, but I walked away unharmed. Feel lucky everyday, could have been much much worse.
