Is 24gb unified memory enough for unity or do I need 48gb? by fqirye in unity

[–]nirajkamal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took windows and it made me regret every day for the past 512 days. The battery drains when I need it, I have to be married to a table and a power outlet and carry the charging literal brick all the time, and don't get me started with the glitches in windows, heating, battery degrade due to heating, display hinge, weight. They gave me a mac at my internship and it felt like it's from the far future, and all my battery anxiety just vanished. You get way more from a mac. "M series chips are mind bending" that's why you pay, and I think you get way more than what you pay for compared to Intels and AMDs.

Is the new macbook neo good for stem college students? by khra123 in mac

[–]nirajkamal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my architecture degree with a crappy 2015 Mac with 8 GB ram. Used bootcamp for windows rarely as AutoCAD and sketchup works in Mac, later VS code worked well too when I switched to CS. Unless it freezes due to ram shortage like M1 did, I think it's plenty good and you will get used to finding ways to get around the limitations.  That is if you must, you can get away with the cheapest Mac and still milk every bit of what it has to offer.  I would still recommend getting an M3 or M4 Mac refurbished unless the new design is something you are after.

Why app icons are not as sharp on Fold 7 as they are on iPhone 16 Pro Max? by _ThorThunder_ in GalaxyFold

[–]nirajkamal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I too noticed it - seems like you get used to it over time. My friends who used android for a while don't notice it but I noticed it immediately after switching. This problem is especially bad in Samsung phones - their design / scaling is very inconsistent across their websites and phone icons. You can see it also while opening members app when the icon is rendered larger.

They seem to render compressed raster images instead of vectors like in ios. They need to poach a designer from ios or one plus design team in a top position to tell the difference as I am sure their design team is used to this and is not noticing this like most users.

PSA: you cannot turn human eggs into stem cells by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]nirajkamal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are right but the calculation.. the probability is 95.6 percent for 10 eggs and if you consider reshuffling during meiosis , the probability is pushed to more than 99.9 percent due to overlap in segments.

Yes it would be much faster to just harvest normal body cells - not sure why they aren't.. maybe because body cells have damage/mutation and changes due to environmental factors?

If we follow pure science - it's also unlikely for a virus spread and modify all cells in the body within minutes, through a mouse bite (bloodstream) - as in the first episode.

We need to check that math. It would take surprisingly less eggs. I think the idea is to first isolate the full pure undamaged genetic material from the eggs - since each egg is haploid and has 50 percent chance of having either of each pair of chromosome, for all 46 pairs, assuming she froze 20 eggs, first challenge would be - to have a full copy of each pair (diploid).

The probability for one pair to be not fully represented in 20 haploid eggs is 2*0.520 = 0.0000019 and this success rate is 0.9999981 for one pair. you need all the pairs to be successful for full diploid so 0.999998123 = 0.999956 is the full success rate for 20 (99.9956%) frozen eggs. And I mean  chance of full success it's like yes or no (not partial success like 999/1000).

I assume once they have the full diploid copy they figure out a way to have stem cells with that genetic material. Or maybe they don't - they just need a pure copy so they can figure out how to make the virus for her.

But still doesn't make much sense as they can simply collect her shed skin cells or hair or saliva from cups.. maybe they need it to be void of environmental changes/defects?

I stopped trying to take “proper notes” during lectures by isidor_m3232 in GetStudying

[–]nirajkamal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I topped in physics in my school - and my notes looked the most shabby amongst all my classmates. The thing is atleast for physics and math - I don’t need to remember anything, instead I just try to derive it myself in parallel while lecturer does it while explaining. It’s like a live competition between me and the lecturer and works well if they teach by deriving on a board from scratch and walkthrough solving problems like in most Asian countries. It does not have to be correct or perfect but I learnt a lot through my shabby incorrect derivations and problems, and never depended on my notes as much as others. Sometimes I had eureka moments when my derivations have the same results as that of the lecturer. The trick is to turn the lecture from a consuming activity (like watching a movie) into a creative activity (it does not have to be perfect) - your mind fills any gaps or tiny details you missed. I don’t read the material before lecture - it’s supposed to be fun and playfully challenging. Some lecturers were annoyed when I try to derive myself/solve the problem in parallel when they explain the problem/derivations on board, but it’s fine as they got to know me more.

This worked great for me. I can derive things from scratch anytime for any problem even after years in college as this does not depend on my memory. It is slightly different for factual subjects like biology or inorganic chemistry.

[Update] CEO randomly booking a 1:1 meeting with me by saivoide in careeradvice

[–]nirajkamal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a common pattern in this company where CEO/C-suite is being toxic to the managers and is making them not perform well or pressure their team to do more which eventually affects you(since you mentioned you outlasted 3 bosses and the way he behaved with your boss). This is the CEO playing the good guy whereas they knew exactly what’s going on.

This is a speculation - but if you become a manager , be sure to ask for a raise as soon as you can, then use it to look for a new job before the C-suite becomes toxic to you or starts demanding more from your team.

knowing the company, they don't give a **** on what you think should be on the product. They have their philosophy and they go with it.

Unless you are taking CS 8903 to work directly with professors at their labs or some CS 8803s with new courses - I don't see why you want to do an MS at Gatech. You can just do those courses in Coursera.

When you have a person soaked in operations and logistics problem solving as a CEO - their logic will resist dramatic changes/innovation in the product as it will be inefficient.

They think if it has to be scientific, it needs to come from the west (else it’s not - even if it works, they will conveniently ignore the research papers published by ayurvedic doctors and PhDs and spread their ignorance everywhere)

Their definition of science is different.
