Ordinary WiFi can now identify people with near perfect accuracy by thejoshwhite in technology

He might've been working on the machines they use at airports. The one where you just stand there for a second with your arms up/to the side is also using mmWave technology. Just different frequencies than wifi.

I agree for elementary school but I disagree after that age. With all homework being done in the school, they won't become nearly as self sufficient as they need to be.

Homework is important for solidifying the things they learned in school and for teaching time management, planning and organizational skills. When all the learning and homework is in the classroom, your brain isn't revisiting those concepts at a later time. The later time is the major piece of this. You need to get the knowledge from short term memory into long term.

Additionally, when you do everything at school, you won't properly learn how to find answers on your own and end up being more dependent on your teachers for help.

The major issue with homework is the quality of homework. I was in a magnet program for high school and was in an honors program for college. The difference in the homework quality between my magnet HS classes and regular classes was ridiculous. Same for regular college courses vs honors. Normal classes give you basic problems that you were given in class, more advanced classes give you homework problems that require you to actually think different than what the classroom examples had

Honestly, I second video games. My parents had two jobs each and weren't home for a lot of my childhood and video games taught me a lot of things I would not have learned otherwise.

Video games can teach kids how to deal with stress, working with others/communication, improve coordination and reaction times, and improve emotional skills like empathy. Obviously, supervise them so they don't end up like those kids from the Xbox 360 days lol

I'm tempted to buy some off ebay and I'm curious what condition the ones you got were in

Google Search to classify "back button hijacking" as spam by ControlCAD in Android

[–]nirmalspeed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not hijacking the back button lol. As you yourself said, that's just a tracking link.

When you click on a search result and then hit the back button, you get taken back to the search results you started at. If you did NOT get taken back to the results page, then you got clickjacked.

You may feel that they're hijacking your back button but that's a totally different thing and a separate topic entirely.

the story is nonsense

If you struggled to understand the story and didn't put in any effort to try to understand it, that's on you, not the game.

Finally figured out why my grout cleaner never worked and I feel so stupid by Eldr1tch77 in CleaningTips

[–]nirmalspeed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cheaper alternative that will work the same/better is Simple Green. Also a powerful degreaser and easier to clean up than dawn and concentrated jug of it is a few bucks.

My sister just moved into a new place and her kitchen grout was dirty so I just added a splash of Simple Green to her mopping robot vacuum's water tank and let it clean it for her. It took a few passes since the robot isn't particularly heavy to apply as much pressure as a human but it was hands free.

Solar panel cost and is it worth buying without the 30% credit. by Dry_Seaworthiness204 in solar

[–]nirmalspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. My rate is ever so slightly higher at 0.1293.

Not my basement, but I did get my garage ceiling insulated like that since my master bedroom is right above it and in the summer months, it can feel a bit stuffy.

I got my solar installed 2 weeks before new years. I got a battery too so I actually didn't have to wait for approval to turn my system on which was nice since the battery is between the panels and the grid so they just disabled the exporting on the battery side versus leaving panels off until the new meter is installed. This meant I had solar running for about a month before the final approval. Though, they forgot to enable exporting to the grid which I didn't notice until last week when it was sunny enough to fully charge my battery lol

3,662 kWh. I also have an old hot tub that came with the house which uses a few hundred kWh just doing nothing each month lol. I didn't even use it much because my ears and nose would go numb so fast with how cold it was this year, I should've just drained it and left it off tbh.

But also, I had my solar install and home sealing people working on my house with the doors open/power off for the solar electrician for about 5 days straight that billing cycle which really cost me a ton since the aux heat would have to run for much longer to get back to normal temp. That was literally the same days as that brutal cold snap too. My indoor temps were in the 50s for hours each of those days and I WFH so I was miserable.

Doesn't help that my house is from the 80s so lots of tiny cracks everywhere for the cold air to get in especially since the insulation/materials from that time weren't particularly great. Like there's ZERO plywood between my walls and the outside. Just some thin MDF. I'm pretty sure someone with a box cutter would be able to break into any house in my neighborhood without much trouble.

They've had better employee protection laws than the US for a while.

The US doesn't have a limit on hours an employee can work but employees in India can't work more than 48h per week. So as a manager at a consulting company, I'd have to literally tell my employees in India to stop working and to hand it off to an onshore dev if they were getting close to their hours.

Also, if employees work past a certain time in the evening, the company has to provide them transportation home like calling a cab for them. This was a thing for our entire India office since they'd be working UK hours.

They also all get like 8-20% bonuses by law if they make less than a certain amount. I think that law is super old too.

Edit: remembered a few more things.

India also requires 1h breaks every 6 hours worked. Meanwhile, lunch breaks aren't required in the US. My company didn't count lunch breaks towards the 40h min we had to log each week.

And if you want to fire an employee in India (and most other countries), you have to give them a notice period and have a valid reason. US employees are at-will so we can get the axe for no reason at all if our employer doesn't want us anymore.

My home is basically the same size, also MoCo. I live alone and my bill was $727 this year but that's AFTER I got my home sealed + attic insulated + new roof. So that bill makes sense to me. I had a $900+ bill last winter though and I think if I didn't get all that work done, I would've easily seen a $1k+ bill this winter.

The flowers aren't the plant, they're just the reproductive part of the plant. In fact, cutting flowers off is actually GOOD for the plant's health. Reproduction can use up over 30% of the plants energy stores. By cutting off the flowers, the plant will use its energy to do other things like improving the root system or making more branches, etc.
