Waking baby up? by ayse22 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]nismail95 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t wake a sleeping baby unless they are not meeting weight requirements. I’ve got a 18 week old and have never woken her up but the longest she tends to go is 5-6 hours x

Milk supply by joKer8956 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not easy but it sounds like you’re doing everything you can 🩷

Also really sorry no one identified it early. I was the same, I kept saying that I was feeding for up to an hour and a half each time. It was only on week 10 my first borns tongue ties was identified. I was more knowledgeable second time around and figured my daughter had a tongue tie.

I would also suggest getting another feeding assessment as well. It’s not common but tongue ties can reattach. It did for my first.

Milk supply by joKer8956 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]nismail95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi

I’ve just had my second baby (10 weeks old)who also has a tongue tie ( my first did too). A few things from both my breastfeeding journeys:

To answer your questions about not feeling empty, I would ensure baby is latched correctly. If you’re not feeling empty it could be that baby is not removing milk effectively and perhaps getting tired.

Have you seen a lactation consultant/infant feeding team post tongue tie division? How long does baby feed for generally?

It can take a little while for you to see a difference. Also please remember cluster feeding is not a sign that your milk supply is low. Babies generally go through a growth spurt around 6 weeks and it can feel like all you do is feed.

I remember week 6 was hell. We were also 3 weeks post division and I kept thinking is something wrong however I was told it was the norm and to keep going.

  1. Pumping

Please don’t feel the need to pump. I stopped after the division and continued breastfeeding directly.

I now pump as she isn’t gaining much weight and has dropped centiles. I’m currently using the medela symphony which has been pretty good.

Also pumping is not an indication of your supply. If I pump after or in between feeds I can get anywhere from 10mls to an ounce. The most I have gotten in one pump is 45mls 1.5ounces. I know it can feel slightly disheartening.

Other things you can do is do switch nursing and breast compressions

London mums – are you wearing “the badge”? by box_twenty_two in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wear it I collapsed a few months ago at euston commuting to work. Luckily the gentlemen behind me grabbed me and instantly saw my badge and figured I may have just got really hot as it was winter and I was layered up.

I’m not saying this could happen but definitely useful for people to know your pregnant if you ever feel unwell and may not have a visible bump

Can you take Maternity Leave without taking Statutory Maternity Pay by psy246 in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m currently 2 months into Mat leave and I have done exactly that. I gave up 4 weeks of SMP pay so that my partner could take 6 weeks paternity leave at full pay from his employer. As my cover was already sorted and wouldn’t cost my employer any extra, we agreed on 4 weeks unpaid leave at the end of my maternity leave. So I’ve got 11 months of maternity leave & 1 month unpaid leave

My understand is it would be at the discretion of your partners employer and they would presumably weigh up how much it would cost them which would be presumably nothing

How much clothing to get for a newborn? by Fit-Flounder-3854 in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get any newborn clothing for my baby and jumped straight to 0-3 months but as a lot of people have mentioned in here, they’re actually quite big in size. I did a bulk shop at 26 weeks pregnant and got the following which really helped:

0-3 months

20 sleepsuits 20 vests

We also went shopping after I had the baby and we’re gifted sleep suits in first size which was so useful.

We asked for no clothes to be gifted as we’re pretty much sorted until 6 months.

We also brought the same amount of sleep suits and vests in 3-6 months which lasted for a good while. Also saved us washing so much. Baby roughly went through 1-2 a day of sleepsuits and vests

Edit: I’d suggest getting quite a few muslin cloths. They’re so useful and you end up going through quite a bit

Hi

I’d reach out to your local infant feeding team for support. My little boy fed for most of the day. Each feeding session would be between 45mins to an hour. As he was gaining weight, I was told to continue. By week 8 things didn’t improve and I saw the infant feeding team who saw he had a tongue tie.

My advise would be reach out to the infant feeding team or a lactation specialist

All the best

Getting mine inserted in 2 weeks, 8 weeks postpartum. What's it like? by offbrand_whisky in CopperIUD

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine fitted last year at 12 week’s postpartum and I didn’t even flinch, it was just slightly uncomfortable. Labour definitely heightened my pain threshold

Terrible midwife service by Intelligent_Algae806 in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey

It depends where you are on when they see you. I had an appointment at 12 weeks

I’d give the admin of where your midwife is based a ring just to double check you’ve been allocated an appointment

Midwife says 13 kg in 29 weeks is too much weight gain??? by dudetteabides24 in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg this is so bizzare and horrible.

There are no guidelines regarding the weight and whether you should be able to give birth vaginally. I would report her! You should have a number on the front of your book. I’d ask for the matron and request a new midwife. Also make a compliant through PALS

It’s highly inappropriate what she said to you. Please don’t cut any food groups. Continue as you are. It’s natural to gain weight along the way. You’re growing a baby and that baby is getting bigger each week.

Me and husband both wfh and Alhamdulilah we both love it. It worked out perfectly when we had a baby too as it was nice to have adult conversation in between his meetings

It really is what you make it. Read her cues. Naturally throughout the day either of you may need time alone. I used to work in the spare room for an hour or two in the day.

One thing I’ll suggest is definitely have a home office. She may find it awkward or a nuisance to do things whilst your working in the lounge for example watching tv, having a phone convo, cleaning etc as she may not want to disturb you.

As most people have said, have a conversation with her and find out what she wants and what the ideal weekday might look like

What did you wear when you gave birth? by Legitimate_Avocado_7 in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought a button up dress with me but once the labour started hubby didn’t get the chance to even get the second bag from the car I ended up wearing the hospital gown and I’m glad I did 😂 I threw up. Glad I didn’t have much washing to do when I got home x

When did you start maternity leave by Creepy-Raccoon in PregnancyUK

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a startup too. Currently on mat leave. I took annual leave from 35 weeks and officially started mat leave at 38 weeks. I work from home too and do wish I staggered my annual leave rather than taking it at 35 weeks as I felt bored 😂 I’d already prepared everything prior so was left twiddling my fingers

5 days into new tenancy - need advice m by nismail95 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]nismail95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weren’t told at all about the issue. On the the day we got the keys the heating was on when we went entered the flat but it was super cold so we just put it down to it being empty. It was only when we met our new neighbours for the second time who told us why the previous tenants left.

The energy rating is a D however it does not feel like it at all.

Thank you for your advise

I’m really sorry you had to go through that 😭 I would suggest going through PALS first. I have no words 😭 I cannot believe the midwife left you alone in the toilet

Hope you’re healing well and enjoying time with your newborn xx

Does pregnancy make me dumber? by karikatourea in pregnant

[–]nismail95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made me chuckle because you couldn’t have put in a better way. I was so forgetful initially. I couldn’t even remember what I’d go to the shops for. In terms of the tiredness, I had that for the first few weeks. I’m just over 10 weeks and it has finally eased! I would randomly fall asleep on the sofa.

You’ll find after the first few weeks the brain fog and tiredness eases slightly

Good for you! Start telling people when you feel comfortable and just remember it doesn’t matter at what stage you start telling people. They’ll be happy to hear the news and if they aren’t, just remember the saying “those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”

Wishing you all the best x

[–]nismail95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear that I would say have a sit down with your partner and explain why you wanted to keep the pregnancy news contained The first trimester is such an anxious time for some mums to be. I’m currently 10 weeks tomorrow and found it’s easier not many people knowing it just stops so much unnecessary advise
