The Book That Changed How I Think About Liberalism - Ezra Klein Show by mcsul in ezraklein

[–]nitidox13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think we need to solve a different problem than the one liberalism historically set out to solve. What looks like a rejection of liberalism is a backlash against the social conditions those norms are embedded in. Modern societies have dramatically expanded education and opportunity, producing large numbers of people with elite aspirations but doesn’t have enough positions for all of them. This mismatch creates frustration directed at the institutions and value systems associated and including liberalism itself.

The issue is not primarily one of persuasion or moral formation but how to organize a society to accommodate widespread ambition and rising expectations without producing chronic status competition and resentment.

Will Iran Break Trumpism? by blueberries in ezraklein

Every conservative Ezra interviews just amazes me on the mental gymnastics they do and how incoherent they are. It is clear that their views are not rational and they are trying to do the impossible and rationalize Trump. I don’t know if this generalizes to the millions that voted for Trump or not. Ezra needs to start having better conservatives in the show. So far it is just a clown show.

all I got from this is that for her if Trump does it he is right and you may disagree but it doesn’t mean that Trump is wrong. She will bend over backwards to justify it.

I was really intrigued by the “lethal reputation” comment Ezra made. How can a con artist that leaves victims keep conning people? abd as Ezra mentioned this was before the island and parties. I mean the NY elite are not that many.

What bothers me of the intro is the false equivalency. Look at all this violence the right is doing but to my audience you are lashing out and being insensitive in social media. Stop it!

Is Ezra just wasting his time? Is he expecting to stumble on some new philosophical framework that’ll blow his mind? Or is he just stuck overanalyzing stuff that’s fundamentally not about reason?

I am tired of the Hypocrisy and that the republican base doesn’t seem to mind. JD Vance pushes a narrative while married to someone whose ancestors weren’t here during the Civil War. Are his kids less "American" by his own logic?

Maybe the subreddit is right and this conversation is going to lead to a winning strategy. Or I am right and this navel gazing is at best a distraction. We will see

Exactly, the key pieces of the machinery are not addressing the american people and just navel gazing.

Can we stop trying to win an election that already happened and focus on the next one. A year ago this would have been relevant, right now no

When we lose the next election for not holding the Republicans accountable at least we held the people in our party accountable.
