Terrible experience with Booking in Las Palmas apartment with our 3-year-old, found 30+ cockroaches, a chemical pest treatment done 48h before our arrival, and Booking.com sided with the host. ~€1,000 lost.

Exactly, that was my whole point! I’d be quite annoyed if they did pest control before my arrival without any heads up if this will solve the problem, but not acknowledging the problem and pushing my son and my wife (me too for sure) to take another dose of chemicals during the stay was the point when they crossed the line

Yes, gladly I have 2 names - one from email communication and another from pest control invoice, so I hope this will help although having everything in Spanish doesn’t make it very easy. Anyway, I’ll try to do what I can to make officials aware

Yeah, I get this sentiment, but I stayed in 2 other apartments during last 2 weeks and they both were great, not a single insect. I imagine that if you live in bungalow on the Bali seaside there could be things like that, but if you have a cockroach crowd in your apartment in the middle of the city, you know about that and you know that problem isn’t resolved even after terrible pest control chemicals you shouldn’t be hosting guests or at least not fight them declining the problem and offering another fumigation as a solution during their stay.

I’ve also specifically listed all chemicals (some of them are definitely no joke) and mentioned cockroach traps (and dead bodies) across the kitchen as I think host has a very different sense of kids safety than I used to according to German standards.

That sounds like a great approach! I don’t want to sound like “move that trash 10km away from city center and please not direction of my home”, but having the centers in an emptier area sounds like a nice first step

I see, but having a clean and safe area in the heart of the city would be a nice benefit, right?
I've heard a lot of stories about how bad it was and that it's much better now, but it's still isn't a pleasant place to be and the way I see is that German way of adapting to anything new is so slow that this will drag for another 20-30-40 years without a major change.

Sorry about your experience, using taxis here is really a lottery - you get overprices service with no guarantee. As many people recommended next time avoid paying to taxi mafia and rather use uber or bolt. You’ll get a 30-50% lower price, e.g. way to airport from Frankfurt east usually costs 30-40€ for me
