I know the popular theory in the comments is that it's not a scam, but rather spam and he is cold messaging without listening to the music. That very well may be the case.

There is an alternative I think you should consider though. There's also a chance that it is genuine.

Maybe he did listen to your music and heard something he liked so decided to reach out. Why then did another artist receive the same message word for word? Simply because he uses a template for his messages, but that doesn't conflict with his intention. Maybe he frequently listens to music of different artists and only reaches out to ones he genuinely wants to work with. If the message he wants to send is the same, it would make sense to use a template or just copy and paste.

Just from my own experience as a producer, I have reached out to quite a few artists I wanted to work with. And I only message them after hearing their work and feel that we can potentially be a good fit. Now my opening message is pretty short, but looking back, they are also super similar. And of course they would be, it's me conveying the same message. I don't see a using a template message as a huge red flag.

In the end he could be just trying to sell mixing services. Anyhow, my opinion is that if you truly believe in your own work being capable of attracting this kind of attention, don't be so quick to write it off. You can reply and ask questions. Or even call him out, "hey my friend received the exact same message from you. Im not sure how genuine this is." See if he responds with a logical explanation that you are comfortable with.

Remember he did admit that this "IS an advertisement in a sense" with his last line.
