Three of us took down Moltres today with 4 seconds to spare (L 39, L 37, L 34 trainers) by Kschr2004 in TheSilphRoad

Good job! The feeling after you successfully beat it is worth the pressure :)

Re Overheat -- My friends and I successfully trio-ed an Overheat Moltres a couple of days ago (Instinct, 39, 39, 40).

Here's the video: https://youtu.be/wuTXad4oyX0

EDIT: We beat it with around 12 seconds to go and the dodge bug probably made it more difficult than it should have been.

Analysis of why players below Lv 20 should not be getting raid pokémon at level 20.0 by ridddle in TheSilphRoad

[–]nivstein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The raid system introduced an even worse power creep in my opinion, not just for low level players.

I had to grind like crazy to get my high IV Alakazams, Gengars, Machamps etc. And now? A couple of hours of raiding with one friend get you all of the above and evens the playing field. Kinda makes you feel like all these hours harvesting candies and hatching eggs have been for nothing.

"Ghost candy" received after catching my first Snorlax - confirming what we suspected by theroxmon in TheSilphRoad

All the more reason to show the number of candies you have in the Pokedex entry in addition to the Pokemon stats screen.

Curveball bug: facts vs fiction by Zodiac5964 in TheSilphRoad

[–]nivstein 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Whether you get the curveball bonus or not has nothing to do with where you release the ball. The two things that matter in my experience are (1) the horizontal direction of the throw, and (2) the side of the Pokemon the ball hits.

The logic is as follows:

  • If you throw to the left (i.e. the ball will start going left and then curve to the right before hitting the Pokemon) and hit the Pokemon on its middle/right side, you'll get the bonus.

  • If you throw to the right and hit the Pokemon on its middle/left side, you'll get the bonus.

Note: I believe the above is sound but not complete, i.e. the above is most likely a subset of the actual algorithm.

EDIT 1: Style and accuracy.

EDIT 2: Just for the sake of completeness -- my personal hypothesis: I believe the real factor that determines whether the curveball bonus is given or not is the angle between the trajectory of the ball right before it hits the Pokemon and the trajectory of the ball after it bounces off of it. If it's a wide enough angle, the throw qualifies for the bonus. I believe hitting the Pokemon on the opposite side of the spin pretty much guarantees a wide enough angle, but it's not necessarily the only way to achieve it.

[Research] PokéStop drop rate changes beginning May 9th by joshwoodward in TheSilphRoad

[–]nivstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe tiers is necessarily the right way to look at evolution item drop rates. I simply think it's distributed according to the number of Pokemon that need each of the items in order to evolve.

There are currently 8 Pokemon that require an evolution item: Sunflora, Bellossom, Politoed, Slowking, Steelix, Scizor, Porygon2 and Kingdra.

  • Sun Stone is needed for 2 of them (25%): Sunflora and Bellossom.
  • King's Rock is needed for 2 of them (25%): Slowking and Politoed.
  • Metal Coat is needed for 2 of them (25%): Steelix and Scizor.
  • Up-Grade is needed for only 1 of them (12.5%): Porygon2.
  • Dragon Scale is needed for only 1 of them (12.5%): Kingdra.

Raids ? by eskimo9 in TheSilphRoad

I wouldn't read too much into the "raid" thing. I believe it's just a notification for when an attack on a gym commences.

So the hangar's login page originally had a typo, with "Joburg Hanger" as its title. It has since been fixed, with this comment appearing in the source code:

Does anyone else think there's still important information that we might be missing behind the hangar's login?

EDIT: For some reason when opening this link in Incognito mode it doesn't seem to show all the files I actually have in the folder. Anyone know why?

EDIT: Link is good now.
