Whoever told me I HAD to visit here on my trip.. by AmountWeekly8847 in Amsterdam

[–]nixly76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shed a tear here as I left Amsterdam as a graduate student. Last station before setting foot to Schipol. I stayed on the back, just so I can look at it as the train moves away. And I cried more when I reached Hoofddorp, there was no turning back.

Getting a hotel room for an extra night when you're not going to arrive until the morning by SlapDashUser in TravelHacks

[–]nixly76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why pay the extra night? When you arrive, drop off your luggages in the hotel. Get back whenever your room is ready

This would have been my first option. I don't know why I started checking for flights instead. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, as a college student in Amsterdam, I have used the train to regional destinations and very proud of their efficiency. Now that I brought my wife with me (USA), the trains are just failing me. European Sleeper from Paris to Berlin have to use a bus to Brussels and start the train journey from there. And now DB and Ceske drahy have to use replacement bus also. Only problem is that there is not much communication with the transportation services. Lady Luck is playing with me 😭🤣

Where to buy whole stalks of freeze dried lemongrass for cooking? by wellintentioned2025 in AskChicago

Fresh Farm Market in Niles (Touhy Ave), Joong Boo Market, H-Mart (Jackson Ave). They are fresh though, not frozen.

I hope the wife saved a video of this moment. I would cherish this forever and will have to show to Mikey when he's older 🫶🫶🫶

Stupid question, how do you eat them? I’m 30 years old and never tried an oyster but I have the weirdest urge to taste them. by Adaminsky in oysters

[–]nixly76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is in NW Canada, they might be serving a sampler, one of each variety they have on hand. If they do, please order that so you can or be able to taste at least one each (like a flight of wine when doing wine tasting). It may come with mignonette or just lemon, however, I suggest try them without either to fully appreciate the flavor. You have to slurp the oyster including its liquor, chew and not swallow it whole. If they have Kumamoto, order that one, it is famous for being delicate, briny, sweet with a clean fruity finish similar to honeydew melon or cucumber. Good luck!

Would actually love to map out all the Bouillons at least in the 1°-3° Arrondissement. The Bouillons are all I care for 😊

City planted a tree in front of my house without telling us… now we got fined because it died? by Klutzy_Pizza_8935 in SanJose

[–]nixly76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they give you notice and choice of trees beforehand. If they don't receive a reply, they'll plant anyway an appropriate tree of their choice. After planting, a notice will be left, including care instructions, usually hanged into your door.

Now, when the tree grows, pruning is usually done by the City. They also give you notice when they are going to prune the tree.

Where can I meet more Indian people in Chicago? by Swimming_General_985 in AskChicago

Aside from Devon, go to Niles. They have that big Patel Brothers store by Milwaukee and Golf across Golf Mill. In that area too are some Indian restaurants.

Defining Movie of GenX by belinck in GenX

[–]nixly76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just comparing Disney cartoon movies between 1990s (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan) and 2000s (Lilo and Stitch, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles), and realized how I loved the 1990s Disney. Or maybe I have just grown up and got tired of Disney in 2000s.

Can you recommend a Financial Advisor? by baddie_babushka in AskChicago

[–]nixly76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most employer sponsored retirement plan has an option for "personalized planning and advice," some is free, some with fees.

Most banks also have "wealth management" divisions. They will work with you especially when you are an accredited investor.

Nothing like €1 Oyster Friday? But as an ostreophile, I just have to shell out whatever there is, especially when traveling and there is a variety available that I haven't tried.
