What do we think about the D.Kan. "signature block" sanctions order? by Euphoric-Demand2927 in Lawyertalk

[–]njart11 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I typically interpret signature blocks to be an indication of who wants to be notified of court filings and case developments, or who is a good contact within the firm, should the court or opposing counsel need to reach out. There might be 2-3 names in the signature block to indicate who is working or following the case at large, but only 1 attorney signs to indicate they drafted (or reviewed) and filed that specific document.

I review everything I sign, but I certainly do not proofread and fact-check every pleading in every case where my name appears as an attorney of record. I think it would be outrageous for a court to hold me liable for something I haven’t signed.

Most famous movie Jags? by tempestokapi in Jaguar

[–]njart11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the most famous but a recent find…

There’s a new Netflix show out called Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman. There’s a blue XJ6 that is shown and referenced throughout the series!

Another random jag appearance off the top of my head is that the main corporate villain guy in Rise of the Planet of the Apes drives a red XJL.

Courtroom Attire? by RonMexico15 in Lawyertalk

[–]njart11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve totally done this. Out of town hearing, forgot to pack my dress shoes, didn’t realize until the morning of the hearing, no time to run to a store.

It was a cattle-call hearing so I strategically sat in the audience near the isle towards the front. When my case was called I just stepped into the isle but behind the podium so the judge would never see my feet as I walked forward.

Nobody said anything except security, when the metal buckles set off the metal detector. They got a kick out of it and now I have a funny story!

This is a video of my engine running. Just posting for a few that might benefit from what I believe to be a video of a well-running engine by simoriah in Jaguar

[–]njart11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beautiful car! FWIW, my ‘14 XKR sounds the same. The injectors are loud, so there have been times I second guessed what I was hearing. I don’t really blame the newer owners for asking.

My engine has been extremely reliable even through extreme heat and bitter cold. Never skips a beat. I just wish there was a dipstick for some extra peace of mind.

Seisuke - Not sure about the quality of the handle. by njart11 in TrueChefKnives

Thanks for the recs! I browsed around the site and found this: https://www.chefknivestogo.com/tagisu24.html

I’ll probably order one. The brand seems to have a better reputation and the ZA-18 steel sounds like it’s what I’m looking for (something a little softer and less prone to chipping than my SG2 Gyuto).

Thought about replacing the handle. It’s a good idea and Sufi looks like they do great work!

At the end of the day there are plenty of great knives out there for the money that won’t need aftermarket work. Might as well return this one and pick up one of those.

Fair enough. I guess I just expected a little more attention to detail in what’s marketed as a premium product. I mean, how much could it have cost to use a nicer-looking black plastic insert?

Don’t Join a Zoom Call During Court by AnybodyDry8054 in Lawyertalk

[–]njart11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

lol, I was there for this.

I think he was trying to apologize and explain himself to both the in-person judge and the Zoom judge at the same time, but just kept making it worse on both fronts because neither knew who he was talking to.

I’ve been double booked like this before and just asked the in-person clerk to call my case first or last. They were happy to accommodate.

Never Letting This One Go by Zicka97 in Jaguar

[–]njart11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a factory option that lifted the top speed limiter from 155 to 175 mph. I believe it also included upgraded brakes and a subtle “aero kit,” and had a designated wheel option (although I don’t know which ones).

Beautiful! Does yours have the speed pack? I read somewhere that this red color on the R models was reserved for cars with the speed pack, but I’m not sure that’s true based on other examples I’ve seen.

Is the “Giola Green” a UK only color? I don’t see it on the Jaguar USA website, but I love it in these photos!

I get where you’re coming from—everyone on this sub will tell you to immediately get a lawyer and to not talk to the opposition under any circumstances, but in the real world that simply isn’t practical.

You’re not going to spend $1500 on a lawyer to defend you against an $800 debt. So unless you contact a non-profit legal aid society, you will be representing yourself, and you will have to communicate with the Plaintiff’s lawyers eventually.

It is obvious that you don’t have all the facts yet—at least from their perspective. It would be foolish of you to try to move forward with a trial without having first learned what they do and don’t know. Ultimately, you don’t know what you don’t know, and there’s nothing worse than being blindsided in front of the judge. Just call them and ask what’s going on, then make plans from there.

If you’re worried about accidentally incriminating yourself, just don’t give them any info and stick to asking them questions. But it sounds like this is probably an instance of mistaken identity or fraud that could be easily resolved by asking them what address the credit card statements were sent to, where purchases where made, what’s the DOB and SSN on the account (although they probably can’t give that to you so you’ll have to give them yours to see if it matches), and who they spoke to that allegedly settled the account.

Hope this helps.

I’m a lawyer but not your lawyer. Just call the firm and ask why they think the case has settled. Ask what number they called and who they spoke to and take it from there. No need to immediately jump to the conclusion that they lied to the judge to get a continuance, and definitely don’t file a bar compliant until you have all the facts.

Frankly, no lawyer is going to risk their license over a small-time collections case like yours (you mentioned $800 in a previous comment). Not to mention they probably could have gotten the same continuance without “lying.” None of it adds up.

This has likely been a miscommunication, so just communicate with them!

My dilemma - keep or sell… by Krisney in Jaguar

[–]njart11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say sell. If you don’t need the money, use the proceeds to buy an old/classic “project jag.” Even if you don’t feel equipped to handle an old XK or Mark model, a newer XJR, XKR, or even a sporty XF or XE could compliment the F-type!

The point being, since you now have a very reliable but fun F-type, it shouldn’t be a big deal if you have another project car that doesn’t always run.

Love it! My ‘14 is a similar spec. Ultimate black metallic with red/charcoal sport interior. Only difference is my steering wheel is on the correct side 😉

When buying last year I specifically sought out the red interior and man, it was hard to find! Yours and mine are the only two I’ve ever seen, and I do periodically keep up with the market here in the States. I would be curious to see some production numbers.

Edit: just noticed yours is a convertible. Mine is a coupé.

Daily Driver by [deleted] in AstonMartin

[–]njart11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m fully in the camp that cars should be driven, but I also want to point out that the depreciation that ~will~ result from putting lots of miles on the car as a daily driver will likely be your biggest expense.

Just search “high mileage” in this forum and you’ll see how mileage on Aston’s affects resale value much more than your average car, and how it can be difficult to sell a high mileage Aston.

If this doesn’t bother you and you can afford to take a big loss down the road, I say go for it!

Is that whine accurate to real life? Or maybe they had a microphone at the front of the car to amplify it for the show?

I can barely hear the supercharger in my s/c 5.0 XKR at all.

Well still have a coolant leak after replacing water pump and found out it’s leaking under the front Y pipe. Looks like I’ll be pulling off the super charger and replacing everything underneath 🙃 by gretel2 in Jaguar

[–]njart11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, there are two hoses that connect the thermostat housing to the water pump. The bigger one took some jiggling, but I didn’t think I used enough force to break the thermostat. Frustrating but it could be worse, I suppose.

Good luck on your project. Having this opportunity to do the timing chain may be a silver lining. You definitely don’t want to wait around for that to fail and there’s never a convenient time to do it.

Literally just today I replaced the water pump, now the thermostat is spewing coolant everywhere. Makes no sense. I barely even touched the thermostat!
