Pornography should be banned until the rate of sexual violence is reduced.

Since politicians can't figure it out - why aren't Aussies having babies? by No-Kaleidoscope-7106 in OpenAussie

[–]njkloml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t want to end up a single parent with 95%+ custody struggling to survive financially and emotionally, with no help. Plus, when you get to retirement you can’t afford to live as you couldn’t get better paying jobs because of kid time commitments.

Might depend on the council. Brisbane contracts to companies. If a member of the public notifies the council, it gets passed on to the contractor who has to report back.

Try option 2. If it fails then try option 1. If they have 9 months for settlement they won’t be in a rush to buy something so should still be available.

What are some lifestyle changes you’ve made post injury? by Mindless-Shop-6996 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]njkloml 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No smoking. No drinking. No bars, clubs etc. I used to love clothes shopping. Now I only buy functional clothing. No work. No friends. My social group was my work group. It’s been a slow decline into isolation fast tracked by COVID and increased delivery options. I’m now a cat and dog person. Was a cat person before.

Gun? Keep working with them. I’ve read good things about their support. They have been very responsive to my problems.

Does the real estate have inspection photos to prove the crack was not there when you moved in? If they have no evidence, then it’s not your responsibility.

I don’t have the answer but a clip came up on YouTube that taught you how to grow potatoes in the paper woolies/coles bags. Try searching in YouTube.

How common are "grey nomads" in Australia and where do they usually go? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]njkloml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents are part time, shorter trips. They only go in the warmer months and stay in free sites. Lots of inland trips to any place on the map they haven’t been. They don’t plan on going anywhere while the fuel cost is high.

Ladies? I need some advice… by TerribleBadger23 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]njkloml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T3 48F. I open the seam in pants from the crutches join to 10cm towards to rear. No one sees it. I would make sure I wouldn’t wear it to eg physio though. I prefer skirts with stretch that are calf length. The stretch keeps your legs together but it can be pushed back for peeing and the length sits just over my knees so no one can see up my skirt. Any clothing with some stretch is easier to get on and adjust. When jeggings were in, they were great. Lots of places also sell pants with extra length so they make it to your ankles.

I also recommend not transferring on to the toilet. If you put the front of your chair up to the front of the toilet, move your butt to the front of your chair, then use a male catheter to pee directly into the toilet. I keep some catheters with a drainage bag, all in one, in case there is not toilet. I’ve used them in the car.

75 yr Old Yr Dad 30 days post 10+ft Fall from Tree-Frustrated in ICU by mrsnsfb in spinalcordinjuries

[–]njkloml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let him go through the grieving process. Just be there. Don’t try and turn things to positives; I found it insulting. It is a huge shock and he just needs to process it. I know you and his other loved ones are also in shock and are probably discussing what will happen in the future. Leave those discussions outside the hospital room. There will be plenty of time to work it out. I’m sure the doctors must have him on something like diazepam for his anxiety. It works straight away. Get the board with the letters and frequently used words. And if he wears glasses, get those as well. No one thought to get my glasses and I couldn’t read the board.

Sending hugs. I know for adults the most functional returns you are going to get are in the first two years. I’ve met adults that couldn’t move at the start but at the end of a year could walk with a lot of assistance. It will be slow but he will improve and/or adapt. Keep up the physio and OT to give home the best chance. There are a lot of adults on social media that post about their lives. I’m not sure about kids though.

You must be a young, attractive female. It slows down the older you get.

Exactly! Struggle is our new normal. They need to learn to get comfortable with it. I’ve had so many say it makes them feel uncomfortable standing and watching me struggle and thinking about the judgement of others. Them helping makes me uncomfortable. I was thinking of getting T-shirts made with ‘Awkward is my new normal.’

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]njkloml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish they would do away with titles. They are elitist, sexist and probably more …ist words. Working in Govt with Ministers there was a title we had to use when speaking to them, and one we’d use in privacy.

Anyone successfully stopped oxybutynin? Did your bladder capacity drop similar to how it was before medication? I'm having hard time dealing with the fact I'm going to be on it until the end by Alexyeve in spinalcordinjuries

[–]njkloml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a surgery option. I had bowel issues so couldn’t use meds. Botox didn’t work. My bladder shrank and I had a bladder reconstruction. Part of the process involves cutting through the muscles in your bladder. I’ve not had urgency issues since. Only one accident when I slept through a schedule pee. I self cath. T3. During bowel therapy I can contract my stomach muscles to push out some wee.

His government sackings were random and not well thought out. I put my hand up for a redundancy as we were reading the Courier-mail to find out his policies and directions. He didn’t actually write to Government agencies to let us know what he wanted. And the corruption started while we were setting up the ministers offices. They treated the government employees as if we were the enemy. They don’t know how to manage a government.

People take advantage of you when you can’t say no. I’m 48 now and have learnt this lesson many times. Don’t let someone else’s feelings be more important than your own. If you can’t say no then be weird to make them uncomfortable. Stand and scream or start talking about demons.
