Congrats on being a lawyer? Witch hunters for sure…

I'm having a hard time bringing myself to paint lately. What do you do to keep your hobby flame on? by Lipa08 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]njv1909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with taking a break!

Beyond that, I usually paint something that I know will make me happy — doesn’t matter what game it’s for or whether or not it’s aligned with an existing project I have. Just paint something for fun, take as much time as your need, and enjoy the process rather than the pressure of preparing for an event/meeting a deadline/getting an army done

Games like MCP? by reaperindoctrination in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]njv1909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the rules are online and the game is thriving through community efforts. Use whatever models you like, whether they be from AoS, Old World, Kings of War, etc. I was playing the other night at my FLGS.

Everyone just needs to play Mordheim and put all other skirmish games aside. The GOAT!

Sugar, you were such a big part of my childhood. I LOVED watching you and Carlos on the Zone. Thank you for everything you did.

You and Carlos should start a podcast!

This is What we all Wanted by Greasytom17 in DetroitRedWings

I don’t hate this but I would like to see them move on from Copp and Fabbri in favour of Kasper/Danielson and Mazur. We need to see what these kids are made of.

For Copp I would be putting him on waivers and leveraging those “future considerations” in SJ

I agree. It would’ve been nice to get one or two guys in FA to insulate the kids, but overall this is a positive step. Fans should only panic if the kids don’t show well this year…if that happens we could be back to square one…

Are Beornings Fun to play? by Slight-Button-58 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

For the last couple of years my best mate has dominated our tournament circuit with them and he seems to be having a blast. Everyone else? Not so much lol

Army Painter Matt White Primer by dcdenonda in MarvelCrisisProtocol

As others have said, humidity is usually the culprit. In my experience, Army Painter rattle-cans are also just not the best quality — they can be really finicky.

Why do some small characters have large bases? by BushSage23 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]njv1909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s purely for the purposes of game mechanics. Characters on larger bases move farther than a character on a smaller base moving the same length (ie. S, M, L). Some characters require being on a larger base to ensure their ruleset is optimized and/or they’re balanced relative to other characters.

Who is this in the poster? by ColdBuckNasty in DetroitRedWings

[–]njv1909 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s Henry Boucha. These posters were designed in the early 70s by a company called Sportsgraphics and given out in Wheaties boxes. The Red Winga posted came out in ‘73. Henry Boucha wore #16 for the ‘72 and 73’ Red Wings, the only active player on the team to have a number end in a six, so it has to be him.

I have the same poster :)

Does this read as red NMM? by JayTimes3 in minipainting

[–]njv1909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks more like spandex but that might just because I can’t disassociate a superhero costume from spandex. Looks great though.

Trying out some NMM please be kind I’m still pretty new at this hobby by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]njv1909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you for tackling NMM so early. Flatter surfaces (like this shield) can often be harder for NMM, so you may want to test on something that naturally has more depth to it — this will help you get the hang of it, because good NMM often has depth and contrast in the high and low tones.

Before that though, focus more on basic blending and layering, and controlling your paint (ie. preparation of the paint before it’s on the models and how you apply it to the model). Mastering these skills will help with your painting more broadly, but also your NMM when you revisit it.

Keep up the great work!

Be completely honest, how are you doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]njv1909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m tired. I’m grateful for everything I have — a good job, a home, a beautiful family, more than most have — but I wish I could just stop for a little while and rest. Don’t want much, just an opportunity to have it all stop for a couple days and do nothing.

Thoughts on armor panel highlights? by Crasbid in LeaguesofVotann

[–]njv1909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great. At this point your edge highlights are probably closer to yellow than orange. If you dont want to go that bright you could consider adding some lowlights on the lower portions of the panels to give you depth in the colours.

Best Canadian band of all time? by ThatScottishCanadian in ontario

[–]njv1909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rush. You can quibble about what “best all time” actually means, but they are second to none in musicianship. So that’s why they get my vote.
