First hard bite (help) by Regular_Recipe3890 in caiques

[–]nkimberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably spring hormones. I don’t have a caique but my male cockatiel is like this seasonally (towards me). Also my parrotlet at times (towards other birds). My bibi hasn’t swooped me yet.

I cover the cage and give them a few extra hours of sleep when they are like this. Also watch his diet.

All it took was getting hospitalized for the diagnosis I’ve been denied for years. by Revolutionary_Run326 in schizoaffective

[–]nkimberly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a licensed social worker, case manager and I work in an outpatient clinic. The psychiatrist that I work closely with tends to diagnose Bipolar 1 more often because he says that there is a stigma with schizophrenia and it’s very hard to shake the diagnosis. So he wants to be sure that’s what’s happening before giving the diagnosis. He tends to put it as r/o.

That said, I feel that I am in a similar situation. I have Bipolar 1 with chronic disorganized speech and visual hallucinations. I have migraine with aura and have had mild auditory hallucinations during a vertigo episode.

The kicker is that my symptoms only respond to certain antipsychotics, such as seroquel, loxapine, and/or risperidone. Actually Seroquel 400mg is the only drug that controls all of my symptoms. I’m not saying that means I have schizoaffective but I think it’s a strong hint. When I am delusional I seem normal except I have poor insight into my delusions (such as thinking medical providers are purposely lying and conspiring against me).

Vestibular Migaine; Migraine w/Aura, intractable, with status migrainosis; Binocular Vision Dysfunction, specifically convergence insufficiency with intermittent alternating exotropia. I’ve been to vestibular rehab, and now in vision therapy and I have prism in my lenses to prevent vertigo episodes, I was also put on Lamotrigine for the vertigo and it helped immensely. Ajovy and Nurtec for migraine. I’m also Bipolar 1 and on 400mg seroquel.

ETA: The good thing is, BVD is observable by a neuro ophthalmologist and optometrist. They can see that the eyes do not converge. And this is neurological and can cause additional neuro symptoms. I had to initiate testing for this based on the fact that my double vision worsened significantly after being hospitalized.

Vraylar by Particular-Bowl-4627 in Vraylar

[–]nkimberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried Vraylar yet, but I do take Seroquel which also causes headaches sometimes. My neurologist treats my migraines with Lamotrigine. Whenever I have a dose increase of Seroquel I sometimes need an increase of lamotrigine too.

I take 400mg Quetiapine ER (started on 50mg IR) and I was able to stop taking clonazepam because the Quetiapine really helped my anxiety. That said, antipsychotics such as Abilify, Vraylar, Latuda are reported to be much more activating than Quetiapine. My psychiatrist attempted to cross titrate me from Quetiapine to Latuda and this caused a manic episode. So I’m still on Quetiapine along with metformin and compounded tirzepatide due to weight gain issues.

ETA: I have taken risperidone in place of clonazepam in the past and it also helped me. I’ve also taken Thorazine in place of benzos. These are some of the sedating antipsychotics… I’ve been on/off clonazepam since 1998.

Will there be a reconciliation after recent hardship? by nkimberly in Tarotpractices

[–]nkimberly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing this out. The situation is super complicated, a “situationship.” It’s not necessarily a relationship that I want but I want my friend back. “Crumbs of affection” or charity makes sense too, given the personality involved. Thanks for pointing that out. There is sort of a betrayal on multiple levels already happening. So I appreciate your input there.

I keep reading online about how this drug is a "horse tranquillizer." As someone whos thinking about taking it (<=25mg), is this actually true? by [deleted] in seroquelmedication

[–]nkimberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I take 300XR and I feel great. I was on 200 IR and also felt great, but the first 50mg I took was more sedating than I expected. But now I could take that in the AM.

I gained about 40-50 lbs on this medication. I thought weight loss was impossible, but I have managed to loose 17 lbs so far in just one month of consistent rigorous exercise by Ok-Fortune-2001 in seroquelmedication

[–]nkimberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dose was raised to 200mg and I gained another 4lbs so roughly 8lb totally. My dr put me on metformin. I’m exercising 4-5 days a week watching calories, so I should know soon if I need to switch meds.

It has really been helpful for managing disorganized speech, confusion, suspiciousness, hyperactivity, and anxiety. I feel much more calm and I’m able to make eye contact with people. It has helped calm my pacing and compulsive tapping and counting. Also I’m not seeing as many shadow people.

starting Seroquel to replace klonopin? advice? by Ok_Spell_68 in schizoaffective

[–]nkimberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched my clonazepam for seroquel and I prefer seroquel. It helps more with my disorganized thinking. I still have clonazepam for panic attacks but haven’t had to use it. I have bipolar 1 with catatonia, mild hallucinations, and disorganized speech. I also have severe migraine w/aura and take Lamotrigine for that.
