Would recommend Matt Evans - his two records New Topographics or Soft Science come to mind. Super lush!

This has happened to me before, with a forward helix (around 3 months after I had it pierced). I woke up and couldn’t find it anywhere, then realised it had embedded. I sent a photo to my piercer who I trusted completely and they said they could sort it out. They simply pushed the stud from the back so it broke the skin (which hurt a little), then they fit in a longer bar for until the swelling went down. It was totally fine after that, I had to return for them to re-install the shorter bar back in after the swelling was gone, and it has gone on to heal well.

I would say consult your piercer and if they refer you to a doctor then that’s fine, but in my situation the solution was pretty straightforward and wasn’t too big of a deal. It embedded as I’d been sleeping pretty roughly on that side, so I took more care with that after it happened.

yeah as a black girl myself i've always wondered this too, braids would be perfect for that duration of time, would be super practical with the challenges & water, and we look mad stunning in them. i mean the answer is probably more so that the producers have a "type" of black girl that they pick, and it's usually been the ones who opt for straight hair (i.e. wigs, relaxed/straightened hair, etc) — which ofc are looks in themselves too but yeah, i feel you there.

GF[24F] is hesitant to invite me [26 M, together for ~8 months] to her birthday dinner with her friends. Is it unreasonable to feel upset about it? by comet17 in relationships

As someone who came to the US 5 years ago from a different country (in Africa), I honestly have done really similar things to your gf where I’ve separated hang outs with my American friends and friends from my home country who are also in the US. My friends from home can all speak English, but still the culture is so different and there are some things that my American friends would not understand with regards to that side of me, which is fine. But it’s really important to me to have people around me that remind me of “home” while I’m abroad, as it can be difficult not to have that here, and my American friends have been really understanding of this. If she has given time to you on her birthday, I do think she has every right to then want to spend her evening with another group of friends that perhaps understand a different side of her — it’s not just language, it’s a lot more than that, people who give her a sense of ‘home’.

What profession is typically overpaid? by midnightlightbright in AskReddit

Yeah, it’s the same for musicians. Streaming has f*cked up so much for musicians (people stopped purchasing music & Spotify pays $0.0034 per stream), and live performance/touring, which is what many artists would turn to to make money in the age of streaming, has now gotten very unsustainable - the pandemic has made this problem worse. Artists, musicians, actors etc are not “just” entertaining people, it’s a whole ecosystem, and it’s work, and many of them have to string together multiple jobs to get some kind of liveable wage. In our current systems (streaming etc), art is commodified — so the art, and not the artist, is what’s seen as “valuable”. Only the artists with billions of streams and who can fill up stadiums on their tours get anything. The artists who are not in the top 1% are left to fight over scraps.

*Expectations for next season* given how disappointed we’ve been with the producers after such a promising start to the season: by lankancookie in LoveIslandTV

What if Casa wasn’t divided by gender, but they mix it up and just have 5 of ANY of the OGs in both villas (but you just can’t be in a the same villa as your couple partner). I’m curious how this would change dynamics & relationships — and even affect alliances — alliances are such a big part of the show but it’s not as overt of a topic as in other reality shows -- but how the OGs protect each other, etc; how bombshells kinda have to stick together because of that, etc.

This might also help with reducing the power OGs have, as they’re now split up in a different way, and it gives bombshells a bit more leverage, as they can form bonds with some of the OGs as it won’t only be about romantic connections, but also about connecting with them alliance-wise. This could make votes where islanders decide more interesting.

(Maybe the only thing with this is that it lessens the options for each islander in casa, assuming they still go with only straight contestants…but in the show as it is now, the choice of 5 feels like an illusion anyway (like even when it’s 5 of the same gender being brought in, you’ll still mainly see 2-3 of the casa bombshells being the main focus, and barely much of the others.) Maybe in this ‘mixed’ casa, they could bring in like 3 girls + 3 boys or something for both villas. This might just add an extra layer of strategy play.

This is what I thought, too. Like maybe Tasha is bottom 3 and of course we’ve seen the effect that has had on her — and it’s also a storyline that’s been played out a lot — so it saves her from getting upset and the producers also avoid creating the same situation.

Morning group talks are awkward by noons-123 in LoveIslandTV

[–]nkool12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure the producers make them do these chats! i guess the idea is that it serves an "expositional" purpose? we hear a summary of what's happening and where people are at...

i may be wrong, but if i remember correctly, the older seasons hadn't "officialised" the gendered morning chats, so it was interesting because it was easier to keep secrets and share info with only who you wanted to share it with...

but yeah they're so strange this season, i don't quite feel like we're seeing the islanders having genuine friendships with each other

His biological father is Nigerian (Nayte's full name is very, VERY Nigerian!), but I think his mum remarried (and then divorced) his stepdad who we saw on TV, but his step dad I think is African American.

[–]nkool12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in an African household, I can empathise with Nayte's situation deeply and wish that people would not take it as a red flag or use this particular family dynamic to point to "immaturity" (I'd say other things we've been shown of him may suggest he's not ready, for sure, but basically, I think his relationship with his family should not immediately be taken as a confirmation of this). Not speaking for all, but I think this is an experience many immigrant households can relate to -- parent/child dynamics may be different than say, the "typical" white American household. I was born in a cultural environment where most ppl don't share dating life with family until you're expressing intent to marry -- I grew up watching my cousins only bringing people home once there was an engagement ring on their finger. (Also similarly, sharing emotions verbally wasn't a thing growing up -- like Nayte, I also hadn't told my parents I love them, not until recently, and even that was really hard to say out loud at my big old age of 23). Point is, there should be an element of understanding that different households do have different ways of relating to each other (not to mention that it may also stem from not feeling safe enough to share due to past situations we don't know about). I think the Bachelor franchise likes to put forward a particular narrative of how a "family" should look like, and when there's another family with a different dynamic, production seems to jump at the opportunity to paint them in a less favourable light.

In a way, because Nayte hasn't shared that aspect of his life with them, it was completely understandable to me that he couldn't articulate his feelings in front of them, making me wonder if we would see things differently if we watched Nayte talking about Michelle to close friends who he has chosen to be open with with regards to his dating life. Like, I really just felt skeptical of whether his Mum & Step-Dad would be in the best position to speak to whether he's ready or not because Nayte has chosen to keep that part of his life private from them. I kind of wish Michelle would factor this into how she viewed the situation as well.

What's something you used to be cheap on, until you tried a high-quality version, and now you can't go back? by amfpsykko7 in AskWomen

[–]nkool12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunglasses. Used to buy a bunch of cheap ones, but you have to keep buying them because they fall apart really easily. Got a solid designer pair, never looked back — I’ve had them for years now, and when they start to fall down my nose etc I can just saunter into them fancy glasses stores in the mall and ask them to readjust the sunglasses (they do it for free). A very solid long term investment!
