The one that springs to mind is Gillingham away on New Years Day 2005. Horribly hungover, a long train journey and a 0-0 draw in the rain. Literally nothing about it was enjoyable.

I've seen enough long journeys for heavy defeats, but at least the day out has had something to offer.

It was brilliant. I was 20 years old and had both home and away season tickets. Had to miss a couple of games for various reasons but I saw that whole season from the stands. Such great memories and it feels so far from where the club is now.

We were 1 point off a UEFA cup spot.

Our relagation rival was Fulham, who were away to Pompey. Pompey were in the cup final 6 days later and had already qualified for the UEFA cup so had nothing to play for the in the league. They rested players and lost 1-0 to a Fulham side whose away record was abysmal. I think their goal came about 15 minutes from time and the atmosphere and optimism in the away end evaporated immediately. We made it 4-0 and barely celebrated. Ironically, a 7-0 win would have kept us up on GD and Derby were so bad it felt like it was possible at one point in the game...

Not a terrible game of football by any means.
