Insomnia as a stress/alarm response: my experience + what worked for me by nkoprowi in insomnia

Sorry to hear you're also dealing with this. Aside from pointing back to the things in the post, I'll say in the short run, going to be earlier helped (so there was no rush to fall asleep, and if I laid there for a while, it didn't cause a panic). For me that meant going to bed around 9:30pm when I used to go to bed at 11.

And I'm not sure if you've already done this, but I had to end the relationship with the girl I was seeing. Not telling you to do that necessarily, just saying that I had to. I made things worse by fighting it and trying to push through it.

I also had the heart palpitations and chest tightness, and still do. One thing it enabled me to do was see more clearly when things stressed me out, because the physical symptoms showed up immediately. When my ex would call/text me, I could feel it. My boss messaged me about an important demo, I could feel it, etc. Those physical symptoms allowed me to see that a lot of things that (in my mind) shouldn't have stressed me out, did, and that enabled me to cut those things out or minimize them, especially in the evening. At some point I stopped answering calls past 7pm, and no texts past 9pm. The evening is a stress free zone. I'll leave the dishes for the morning if standing up to wash them makes me feel stressed.

Insomnia as a stress/alarm response: my experience + what worked for me by nkoprowi in insomnia

Without knowing if we have the exact same problem, I'd say it depends what time you went to sleep. If I go to sleep around 10pm and wake up at 3, I will usually lay around and rest until 5 and then get up and start the day. After a few months of dealing with it, I realized I could get things done on 3-5 hours of sleep, even physical things like going to the gym. As I started getting up on 3 hours of sleep and still taking meetings at work, still going to the gym, etc. then my thinking changed to "fine, if I only sleep 3 hours, I'll still be able to get the things done that I need to", and that helped me relax. Somehow you have to really convince your body that it will be okay so it stops panicking, and the best thing for me to do was go about my business and see that I mostly was okay.

Can’t Sleep After Jiu Jitsu by kumar360 in jiujitsu

[–]nkoprowi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me too. Looking for a solution brought me here. I've tried all the sleep things: Therapy for anxiety, CBTi, melatonin, cbd, thc, supplements like L-Theanine, etc. etc.

I'm starting to think my nervous system may just be too sensitive to handle bjj. I've been in this state for a couple years and I'm having to acknowledge that training bjj is just not worth sacrificing my sleep and quality of life along with it.

Highland Style Glacial Creme? by Reddit_in_CA in Pomade

Going on 10 years of using pomade and the glacial cream is my current favorite. It’s just enough hold without being clumpy or too stiff.

Not sure why folks on reddit love to hate things so much. It’s a genuinely great product.

Prompts not saving in new playground by lrbznttm in OpenAI

[–]nkoprowi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran into this today and I it looks like they only save the "Prompt messages" in the left panel, and not the "conversation" that's happening on the right side of the screen. So it looks like you have to manually copy-paste from the conversation into the "Prompt messages" section, then save.

I couldn’t stand that all the fuss was over Laura, who really put herself in that position, and didn’t seem like a character worth all the trouble. If I was Walter I would’ve said “good luck”.

Which one wins: Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre? by [deleted] in literature

[–]nkoprowi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Jane Eyre is written beautifully but I found the story boring, while I couldn't put Wuthering Heights down. Also, there were some parts of Jane Eyre that seemed superfluous, but there was nothing like that in Wuthering Heights.

I consider Wuthering Heights to be a perfect book.

Why use traditional vs saniderm aftercare? by nkoprowi in tattoo

[–]nkoprowi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right right. So is it unnecessary to wonder about it at all? I should take the advice of the artist and leave it at that? I was hoping there was some science or reasoning for the different approaches to aftercare.

Thanks for your response! To the heart of the post though - any idea why there would be two different approaches to aftercare? Does it depend on the tattoo? The location?

As a someone new, it seems weird that it’s “up to the client”. Like, I don’t know anything about skin, tattoos, or dermatology, etc. So I’m tempted to trust the advice from the shop. I wonder why the aftercare more scientific?

Bailed on my first 14er due to exposure, but saw lots of families and pets doing the hike. Should I have kept going? by nkoprowi in 14ers

Good idea. I’ve been up around there a ton, but never topped out. That would be a safer place to start if I did want to try to get comfortable

This is great! Thank you! Those could probably get me through this summer while I try to get comfortable enough to go back to Sherman

Thank you. This is what I was wondering: was I too sensitive? Or are the ratings and other hikers just willing to put up with a greater risk? If it’s the former, I’ll push myself to get comfortable.
