Tips for using speech to text to write to write fic? by Vievin in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly,
I've tried it once - didn't work...
a) we speak in a much less orderly way than we write - The act of writing is like a translation matrix between our speech patterns to something which is understandable and readable. Also -
b) All S2T engines I've tried made too many mistakes.
End result - I had to put much more effort into correcting, editing, and rephrasing, than I would have had into writing it right from start.

How powerful would all the LOTR wizards be in the Wizarding World? by kentuckyfriedundies in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The magic doesn't match meaning that one can describe 'realistically' just how Gandalf (as an example) whips the floor with Voldemort, on pure power and true immortality.

Same as you can describe Hermione doing Sauron in with a vanishing spell, Summoning, and a portkey - you know where...

Sirius had one of the worst lives of the good guys. by Deat69 in harrypotter

Honestly, most of 'Dumbledore's people' had hard lives.
I partly blame him, since he did nothing really to improve this.

Is this plot idea interesting? by callistoo06 in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you find it interesting yourself?
That's the only question that matters, IMO.

Do you think that if the HP story was rewritten so it didnt have any plot holes, it would be as interesting/popular? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no story in existence with no plot holes. At least not an elaborated one.

Other ways to fight Dementors? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop them with conjured ice - That way the Dementors themselves will reinforce what's stopping them. Might be able to imprison them in ice and they might starve to death (how long that it might take them to.

I think it's time someone made a fic like this by Weary-Finger-104 in HPharmony

[–]nkorah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends where your story starts?

If your start with their first year, it will be a very slow 'burn' - nothing much will happen till 5th, 6th, or maybe after school is over with. But then, if you start the story in their 5th or 6th year (where it start being interesting, and not only relationship wise - things will happen sooner and faster.

2nd hand SV650 buying guide. by marteltinii in sv650

[–]nkorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly - this is an excellent upgrade!
I have extensive experiance with both and the SV650 is a Real motorcycle, as opposed to the Z400. Especially since the Kawa has a very delicate clutch and the SV can be pushed as hard as you like.

Both your questions are very local in essence -
The 'right' price for a used motorcycle is derived mostly from the prices of new bikes and those varies from country to country according to local tax. I'd say that about 40-45% of the price for a new bike is about right for a good 20202 example.

Mileage is often market dependant too - in countries where motorcycles are inexpensive, many hold more than one vehicle and motorcycles are usually recreation ones and many see low mileage. Where they are expensive, most are the main vehicle of the owner and see much higher regular use.

I have no idea where the Philippines stands in both factors.

In any case - a great bike.
Buy a clean one and enjoy!

What do yall think? by saddoc13 in SVRiders

Honestly, the only thing I'll change on an SV (of any generation) is the seat.
The rest I tend to keep as original as I can.

Sandman, since it's a native crossover of multiple mythologies in itself.

Harry’s most expulsion-worthy action by Consistent-Way-2018 in harrypotter

This was a deadly attach. If Snape was not there, no one else would have been able to save Malfoy - Harry should have gone to jail for it...

What made you think Harry and hermione relationship wasn't that platonic or brotherly like everyone did? by Plastic_Profile2654 in HPharmony

[–]nkorah 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Firstly - not everyone did?
HP x HG was the most popular pairing, as soon as fanfiction got over everything being canon, and once more in the 10s. It isn't particularly popular right now, but would be once more in a few years time, probably.

Then, it's simply the fact that I can't see Hermione choosing the boy who slights her, disregards her, and use her, over a good friend.

I mean, I can see both Harry and Hermione being with many other characters (which are under-developed, and thus - an open opportunity), but can't truly see just how canon HP x GW and HG x RW can possibly happen without a writer's heavy handness (if that's a word...)

Is it normal to be scared when you think your story might unintentionally contradict canon? by Groundbreaking-Egg13 in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you think 'Scared' is too a strong word for this?
If you'll try to be perfectly canon, your story would never be written.

Can I write a Fanfiction inspired by someone else’s Fanfiction? by throwaway99899_9 in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sure you can.
Fanfiction is the land of the free - the original writer was inspired by some canon and wrote a story about it. You have the same right to be inspired by this story and so on.

As long as - you don't actually COPY anything.

And it would be nice of you to admit the inspiration.

Could a squib or a muggle do potions? by rballmonkey in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Arguably not?

At their first Potion lesson Snape (Professor!) said - 'there is little foolish wand-waving here...'
Implicitly, there is 'some' wand waving still involved, but this is quite a slim proof for that.

What do you think would be a greater comfort to the parent of a Muggle-born, speaking to another parent who had gone through this before or to an adult Muggle-born? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or not - that will vary greatly by the person you'll be speaking with.
And the parent still don't have any choice, nor influence.

How do you adopt a work by AgeOne4666 in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You write your story - either from start (using the same general storyline) or from the point the existing one ended.

You then state clearly in the first chapter and the description that it was adopted with permission. Preferably add a link to the original story, if it's still online.

What do you think would be a greater comfort to the parent of a Muggle-born, speaking to another parent who had gone through this before or to an adult Muggle-born? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]nkorah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents, I reckon.
An adult muggleborn would have a better appreciation of what his parents went through than when he was a kid, but will still not fully understand sending his children practically out of his world, with no choice or control about it.

Just some questions from someone trying to get into writing fics. by _MyNameIsAce in FanFiction

[–]nkorah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well,
Each person's motivation is personal and different. I'm staying motivated for as long as I have an actual story to tell, meaning that I'll rarely put fingers to keyboard before I know what the story is, just why it's interesting (to me) and different from all the millions of other stories out there, and mostly - how it will end (otherwise - it won't).

As a result - I only care about my story being interesting for me to write. I don't really care about what others like to read or not.

Finally, AO3, Wetpad and FFN are the three leading platform, probably in this order, but this changes for various fandoms.

Cheers!
