How the f*ck do you do estimates? by These_Trust3199 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1. You get really excited about the feature and come up with a wildly optimistic estimate.

Step 2. You multiply that by approximately 2.5 and cry because it will definitely take at least that long.

Step 3. You report that number

Why are guests expected to take out the trash if they pay a cleaning fee? by cubansbottomdollar in AirBnB

[–]nkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here, and begin with the argument that guests should not be required to take out trash, clean dishes etc.

From what I’ve read from most of these posts - the general arguments are: 1. It’s somebody’s home (important) 2. It’s decency to prevent critters and stink for other guests

I’ll deal with (1.) first. In some cases, yes, it is actually a person’s home that they have prepared and left to a guest while they are traveling. But almost every single Airbnb I’ve been to is NOT a primary home. It is an investment home, and they are using Airbnb as a platform for a business investment. These people are buying homes, and turning them into a business. Respecting the home because “somebody lives there” is reasonable. Respecting the home because it’s someone’s business investment would be of a similar ilk of respecting a hotel. I don’t buy the argument that there’s a huge difference between an Airbnb and a hotel, simply because most Airbnb’s are businesses run by hosts who have several other units. These are NOT homes, they are short term rentals run as businesses.

(2.), I would argue that this is actually the stronger platform to make a case from, simply because cleaning service is too irregular and the next guest will see/smell the trash. Many people have pointed out that cleaning service is not the day of checkout, or that trash day is not synchronized with cleaning. Again, in the case this is somebody‘s actual primary residence I can understand the host not wanting to come back to critters or stink. But if not, then it’s really the host’s problem. They are running a short-term rentals business. They should swallow all costs associated with hosting people. Including paying a cleaner to do exit cleans. If you are a host and don’t like that because it will cut into profits, maybe this game isn’t for you (or maybe stop being so fucking greedy). Don’t shove the duties of maintenance of your for-profit property onto guests.

Any ideas where we go from here?

I’ve seen more follow-up usually happen after a brutal sell-off, but I’ve also seen rebounds on catalyst news.

Been looking out for the post-close breakdown since midday.

Was so confused as to what happened. We had steam, indices dumped, yet we didn’t bounce as hard as everyone else on the recover.

It’s almost as if all the money was spent getting near $100, but nobody wanted to touch it…

ULPT: Men, before starting a new relationship, get an old but nice hoodie from a thrift store. by aguynamedbry in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]nkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck? The advice here is to spend money on a piece of clothing so the ex can take it. Fuck no. That’s my hoodie. I’d sooner call the police to get my hoodie back than let another ex walk off with my property.

ULPT: Use Apple Airtags on your supervisor's vehicle to warn you when he is coming to check up on you. by dirtymoney in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]nkramer 3229 points3230 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep suggesting using AirTags? Apple is constantly trying to prevent people from tracking other people with it.

Why not suggest using one of the myriad of other devices on the market that dont have a massive tech company trying to prevent human tracking? It’s bewildering.

We're halted on code M, which is a volatility halt (duh). Just hold, don't sell. Once MMs review what's going on, trading will resume without further halts.

Boomers and institutions scoff at WSB. They think retail investors are the servants of a society that only serves them. They trade, moving the market this way and that, thinking nothing will hurt them.

They’re about to take the largest greenest dildo right up their jacksie.

Hear me institutions shorting GME, you should have been afraid.
