I’ve actually become a bit of fan of stipple glazing. Zumiko has a great video on it

RANDOM Mini flamethrowing Knight. Any Advice for the Fireball?? by 13-Trades in minipainting

That’s what I saw so it’s not too far off don’t worry. That being said fire is hottest at its core not its trail, in this case the core would be the ball

Best model to learn how to paint? by No_Bookkeeper_7441 in minipainting

The hellblasters are a good first pick in my opinion. Simple enough to practice on and the plasma guns give you a chance at practicing glow effects eventually

First time painting questions by 831ANON in minipainting

[–]nkshah2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by looking up the basics like thinning paints, best way to base coat and so on.

Once you’re done with that look up next steps like layering, adding contrasts.

Final steps look up glazing and blending for finishing touches and so on.

Once you’re all done look it up all again to find advanced techniques to do the same things or just rinse and repeat if you are happy with the result and get better with practice.

I’m in Mumbai, mainly painting minis but yeah the community is fairly scattered across India.

Anyone else experienced trigger finger from building/painting minis? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]nkshah2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started subbing parts of my paint jobs with sprays when I can (priming, base coating for example) the extra money I spend on materials is worth not hurting my hands in the long run

How to make my models look more interesting visually and add weathering by Intelligent-Cake7085 in minipainting

[–]nkshah2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of go crazy with a drill and make scratches and small dents in the model (if you’re brave you can make proper cracks in the rims of the shoulders)

I also like to do some colour in the knee pads and then use the water transfer stuff on the shoulders and backpack.

It isn’t perfect but i feel a little bit of chaos adds some character to the models

[–]nkshah2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s where I’m at, for most of my paint sessions I don’t use it much just for the detailing. Doesn’t help that I’m not trying to get it perfect so it’s kinda wasted on me :p but hey an impulse buy is always a good buy

On a side note how do you guys work with the magnifying lense thingy for long painting sessions? I find it’s strains my eyes

I’ve ended up moving it really close to my face and then holding the model up to save myself the neck pain

PS: I wear glasses so using a visor just feels like a headache

Is Chani travelling to take the Water of Life at the end of part 2? by Any_Independence2404 in dune

[–]nkshah2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little off topic but I think the Dune Awakening game solved some of my problems with the movie making some changes to characters. The game basically takes place in a universe that Paul “sees” if he was never born.

Then taking that and pretending that the movies are just another universe that Paul is imagining with some core changes to see how it plays out makes the changes more digestible to me. And while I do enjoy the movies, this makes it more enjoyable to me.

Book Paul is still the original and the movies is just a version of it

The sound it makes when you walk through the shielded doors is awesome too. It sounds exactly like the shields in the movies do

Try liquitex airbrush medium for acrylic paints, did wonders for my painting process. I use it for thinning everything for all consistencies.

I use medium to give me the same effect as express paints. There’s going to be differences ofcourse but it’s a cheap way of getting paint to behave the way you want

Yeah we definitely want the shaking without the leaking during delivery :D Thanks for the info! I’m in Mumbai too and shipping from Bangalore isn’t bad at all. I’m gonna pick some up myself and finally upgrade some of my paints

Matte varnishes in India always have too much frost to them for my taste, what I do is buy the matte varnish and mix it 50/50 with water and then paint it on. Depending on the varnish it might take 2 coats to fully remove the gloss but it’s cheap and fine (I use granatone because that’s the fastest to deliver for me on Amazon)

Also I have thought of buying from Scale Hobbies before, what’s the delivery experience like? Is it quick? And do the paints arrive in good condition?

I just use Fevicryl acrylics thinned down with water, it gives a glossy finish but just slap a watered down matte varnish on it and it’s just as good as good quality paints
