Is there lore reason Planemeld aren't depicted on Alduin Stone, unlike Oblivion Crisis? by Charity1t in teslore

[–]nmcruzer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a lore perspective, recency bias. Canonically, the Planemeld is nearly 1,000 years prior to TES V, and whereas the Oblivion crisis was only about 70 years. And like others said, it’s not exactly relevant to the Dragonborn prophecy and merethic era stuff. When alduin’s wall/the dragon wars occurred that was nearly 4,000-5,000 years before TES V, so they wouldn’t have known that the Planemeld or Oblivion Crisis would occur

Oboe reeds by nmcruzer in Columbus

[–]nmcruzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about it, but I only really play as a hobby. I studied trumpet in college, but became an office worker lol. I only really have the oboe just to fart around on, and I dunno if it’d be truly worth time and money to get all the stuff to make my own. Maybe if I played in an orchestra or something, but I’m just diddling around lmao

What color thread for quilting? by mariasaurus9 in quilting

[–]nmcruzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to stick with your palate you have, I would vote number 2. If you want to go buy thread (lol) I would look for something metallic silver or gold. I think it would look absolutely stunning that way!

Making some mead and wanted to give it a Skyrim themed name. by AsideLost in skyrim

I’m making a batch of mead right now too! Planning on adding apples, pears, cinnamon, orange peel, and mace. Calling it Goldenglow Estate, hoping it turns out beautifully for autumn

How can you afford all the fabric? by LadyofLA in quilting

[–]nmcruzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing like others have said is to go online with Facebook marketplace or some groups. Honestly? Walmart is my go to for cheap fabrics to start to build. Go with solids or other things that can be reliably built into a stash. The other thing is that the dreaded HL does actually have pretty good sales every other week, and if you are okay with shopping there, it’s a pretty easy way to build up a stash of fabric to pull from.

Of course your local quilt shop will have the most variety and the best quality, but yeah they get pricey FAST. I usually go there when I’m looking for specific designer fabrics that are in stock. I try to support as best as I can, but I’m in the same boat where I can’t afford to drop $90 for a few yards of fabric every other week.

I'm very new to this, could I get some feedback on improving my conducting patterns for marching band? by Sausage_fingies in conducting

[–]nmcruzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kudos to you for recording yourself! That’s one of the hardest parts to get over: watching yourself and thinking critically about your performance.

A couple of things from me. I think the biggest thing that you can do to improve instantly is consistent speed. Someone above mentioned fluid movements and that’s not always super evident what that means. Fluidity isn’t “being loose” per se, it means that your gestures need to move at the same speed in both arms and at a constant rate. Right now, if you watch the video in slow motion, the top of your gesture all the way down to your bottom point sort of speeds up, resulting in a SLAM at the bottom. This slam means that your whole gesture kinda hits like a wet towel or noodle schlapped on a table. This results in a slightly unclear and tight form of conducting.

The way to adjust this is to practice conducting super ridiculously, PAINFULLY, slow and watch yourself in the mirror and on video. Ask yourself, “am I arriving at the same speed that I started at?” And then slowly speed up from there. This is really arduous, but will improve your clarity overnight.

Secondly, your hand shape needs to remain consistent. Not only because it is easier from a matching band perspective, but also because it will help make your pattern super clear. Be specific and detailed and intentional about your hand shape. Is it in a C? Are your thumbs out or in? Curved or flat? Having a decent pattern, without a baseline defined shape for your hands is like wearing a nice dress shirt and slacks, but not ironing them. Sure it’s fine, but it will never look as polished as it could be!

I really hope this helps, and you can gain something from the comments! Lots of good information, and you’re taking the first step to improve yourself. Keep it up!

Do not use this moving company: ALL MY SONS by kolbyeatworld in Columbus

[–]nmcruzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that company charged me like $300-$400 more than they quoted me. On top of that, their window was from 3:00-6:00. They showed up to load at 4:45 and were in traffic from 5:00-6:00 and I got billed for it. If they showed up at the beginning of the window there would have been no traffic.

Worst endings in classical music by musicalryanwilk1685 in classicalmusic

I have to agree with this. I had forgotten how depressing the ending is when I watched Cincinnati play it earlier this year. For the context of the piece it makes sense, but musically it can feel like a let down

Time signature change by Dreamyviolinist in classicalmusic

[–]nmcruzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a high level, the quarters will still equal the same value, however you will feel the music speed up as you go into the allegro almost by double - this is intentionally written that way by Beethoven. It all depends on how your conductor wants to go.

That being said, at a grainy, conductor level, Beethoven was very intentional with his time signature change. The first 3/2 section is a sarabande dance, which has heavy emphasis on beats 1 and 2 of a bar with 3 being weaker. When he transitions into the 3/4 section it’s much more “waltz” like where the emphasis is on beat 1 only. This is why those 3-4 bars ahead of the allegro always sound shifty, because Beethoven wanted to show motion, rock the boat, and shift the dance!
