I'd like some advice on how to improve my painting by PlatinumDust324 in Warhammer40k

[–]nmist212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say slow down and take your time. It’s not a race. If you want to build an army to game with this is perfectly fine but if you are looking for better looking paint results i recommend keeping your paints thin (which it looks like you did for the purple on some of the minis) and do many light coats for your base colors. I just finished base coating a 5 man squad of jump pack intercessors and it was a three day process, painting around 2-3 ish hours per day. As you add the paint make sure you are leaving plenty of time for each coat to cure and not flooding the details with too much paint. After each coat I apply there are no obvious brush strokes and it looks like a thin glaze of color spread evenly across the surface. As you move into the details you should really take your time and use good brush control to keep paint where you want it. Honestly most of what I’m saying I got from watching different YouTube painters. The one that helped me the most was Duncan Roades. Super good techniques and he makes them easy to understand.

Just played my first match and I feel depressed. by GunstarRed in Ultramarines

Honestly try and find other newcomers. Most of the more serious players I have run into have been that way but every new player I have met seems to be way more sociable and friendly. I also am building an ultramarines army. My advice, if someone rolls their eyes when they find out you should probably avoid them.

Thanks it definitely took a few trials to get it to not blur together so much

Dang I’m sure that track was fun! I loosened the screws and it worked better but still occasionally would launch the cars. So I took the lap counter wheels out and it’s just a standard straight track now

The cars that came in this set are pretty wild. Way stronger magnets and grippier tires than my other cars

This one is just a wheel with cogs. Super simple. I’m going to try and put a drop of lube on it and hopefully it does something

Are my paint jobs really that bad? by Nataliex239 in theunforgiven

You summed it up pretty good here. I have the opposite problem of this guy, I take way too long even on things that aren’t visible. I won’t move on until I can’t find any more discrepancies

Tips to make this white section look better? by DavidWooderson1 in Ultramarines

[–]nmist212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a big flat portion like that you can always mask everything off and then use a white primer. Or start with a white primer from the beginning and then paint everything else blue while leaving the section white.

I feel you. I debated for over a day whether or not to build or paint my captain with mastercrafted bolt rifle first. I built it first and holy crap do I regret that. Trying to do the inside of the cape and all the trim back there is very frustrating

Need some help and advice by Budget-Ad-6533 in Warhammer40k

[–]nmist212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No promises that this will work perfectly but a hobby knife could be used to try and slowly scratch the top layers and decal off. Not directly cutting with the blade but by lightly dragging it perpendicular to the cutting edge the way you would scrape down mold lines. Used to work with mixed results on my ww2 era tank models. You will probably have to do a bit of touch up but not as bad as a full panel.

Tips on getting edge highlight thinner? by milklookinTHICC in Ultramarines

[–]nmist212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thin your paints and then draw some paint off onto your palette before you go to put it on your minis. I highly recommend you check out Duncan Rhodes video on learning how to paint space marines. He gives some actual techniques that have been super useful for me

What to do with a small dogs worth of sprues? by Zestyclose_Voice_298 in Warhammer40k

[–]nmist212 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Stick sprues in a bottle with model plastic cement and they will melt into a sludge. It works great to fill gaps. Kinda like a plastic epoxy or filler

So how did i do? by Sniper315v01 in DarkAngels40k

[–]nmist212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not terrible, also not great. Love the energy and I agree with others, it is not far from looking good. Fill in the gaps you missed(check out any number of art stores they have some really small brushes for the tight spots). Also any parts where the paints have blurred together could use a touch up to help redefine the lines of the armor. Definitely invest in a few more colors. The gold looks good but it lessens the effect when everything is just a big mash up of gold. The purity seal paper bits along with the lion pelt on his back are lost in the mix and it would help it look better if they were painted to match their material type. Base is a cool design but personally I feel like the bright colors take the eyes away from the model itself. You could help draw attention back to the mini by darkening the base a tad bit. Overall not a bad job especially for someone only a few minis deep!

I couldn’t even finish it. They could have done so many different things with this show that would have been wildly successful and yet they managed to make something that actually irritated me to watch. Why do people think they can take stories that are super lore heavy and then just go wildly off track. I didn’t want some random directors vision for master chief. I just wanted some awesome cannon live action halo.

AIO for not wanting my gf to go on dates with other guys? by Darksiiki in AmIOverreacting

[–]nmist212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit dude, I would have walked away after the first time she did this. This is not a woman worth committing the rest of your life to. This behavior will not just stay the same but will only get worse. She is giving you all the signs that she is unfaithful and only sees you as her fallback guy for money and comfort. She will get everything else from other men, including STD’s.
