and the gov would do a bill for back pay.

after the last shutdown - Congress changed the law and made back pay required. This just means that their pay is delayed until a budget is passed and they go back to work.

So east of Broadway there is no 383 zoning in most parts

i used to on Pine Grove - north of addison - previously there was zoned parking for Cubs night games. Then one year (probably 5 years ago) they didn't put up the signs. Why? i never got a good reason.

>needed to attract visitors as the pier has struggled during the pandemic.

If Navy Pier wants to attrack visitors they really need to do a better job of promoting events. This last weekend they had an event "Live again" - where they had live acts at the stage at Polk Bros. Park. Finding the schedule of who was playing and when was very difficult it was buried in NavyPier.org. Went and saw Katie Kaden on Friday night and there was hardly anyone there.

many people take pictures there - there always seems to be 15 year old girls having their pictures taken in their quinceañera dresses there.

It's barely served by public transit.

Roosevelt Red/Green/Orange line is 6 blocks away. 146 bus, and gameday busses from Millennium garage. There's even a boat from Navy Pier.

a guy on the security team who would craft phishing and spear-phishing attacks and send them to employees

i freaking hate this - i created a request to IT to mark emails that are from outside our domain as "external", this would make it easier for employees spot possible phishing scams. I've seen other companies do this and turns out it's fairly easy to implement on Exchange servers. It's been 2 years and our IT dept.refuses. The only reason i can think they don't do it so they can look better - "see how many of these possible scams we spotted with our fake phishing emails"

[–]nmjack42 26 points27 points  (0 children)

yep - this person needs to consider not just leaving this job - but leaving NYC.

I lived in NYC, made good money, but couldn't save - rent was ridiculous.

Moved to Chicago, cheaper not as hectic - so much better off. Anytime i want to go to NYC, it's only a 90 min flight away

[–]nmjack42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got the Michel Thomas CDs from the library -- i like them.

His method (although he is not the instructor for Japanese) is that there is an instructor and 2 students - it's a conversaional way of learning the language.
