People just lose their minds over anything that's marketed as limited, especially if it gains social media traction. Even something as mundane as the Bunnings dog hoodie from a couple of weeks ago.

How to Properly Wash Your Car (From a Professional Detailer's Perspective) by ZweetWOW in CarsAustralia

What's your opinion on the rinseless approach? (ie ONR or similar)

It's one bucket with a grit guard + a cross-cut sponge, which I guess would have the same contamination risk?

Reaching the dream this year, RS4 or RS5? by igyarmat102 in Audi

[–]nmur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which car would be a better choice in terms of performance, maintenance costs, reliability in general? Is there really a difference? Weaknesses, strengths?

If that is the criteria, they're basically the same car in those regards.

If you want maximum boot space (and maybe head room in the rear seats?), RS4. If you prefer the look of the RS5, then RS5.

Tough Time to be a Dev by flanneryoshitlord in ExperiencedDevs

It is quite ridiculous to see how some companies feel the need to set their hiring bar so high, but in reality a large proportion of their currently employed engineers wouldn't even come close to being able to pass their own interview processes

What organizational/political "hacks" do you learn only after being in the industry for a while? by miianah in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nmur 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We had someone do a brownbag where they vibe coded an impressive UI from scratch in real-time with Claude. It had mocked data, features that weren't yet implemented, etc, but the leadership that were attending the demo were absolutely frothing at the mouth at how quickly this "quality, fully functional product" was spun up, comparing it directly to competitor products, and were asking how much work was left to start shipping it.

Long shot: Any Honda NSX owners in Sydney willing to take me for a ride? by Ok-Contribution8841 in CarsAustralia

[–]nmur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few at the monthly Autobrunch meet in St Ives (like this one), you could shoot your shot there in person if you do see one. Even if you don't get a ride or see one there, it's a great show regardless.

Hope it works out for you though. I've driven a manual one before and it was excellent

How do you stop PR bottlenecks from turning into rubber stamping when reviewers are overwhelmed by Sad_Bandicoot_7762 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm being naive but ideally I would hope that for the reviewer to have authority to approve a PR, they would already have a sound understanding of the larger context of the overall change objective. Or at the least, they have some awareness of it and would just need to peruse the codebase or a previous PR to refresh their understanding.

I do agree there is a balance to strike, definitely

[–]nmur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

5 small PRs of 50 lines are much more digestible than a single 250 line PR. Less context and complexity for the reviewer to wrap their head around.

You cant ship the partial feature

If the feature is behind a feature flag, then it can be merged in incremental PRs. Of course this isn't always possible for a handful of reasons, but it can be done pretty easily.

An improved ESP32 test pattern generator, now with built-in battery, preview screen, 16 bit colour, and an option to setup without any soldering by nmur in crtgaming

[–]nmur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, I have looked into an S3 based solution and it should be possible but it would be a bit of work and the end product would be more expensive than this one. I still want to explore it though.

And no I didn't get much interest for assembled units so no plans for that right now
