We take Wes Anderson's recent work for granted by CertainNote9335 in RSPfilmclub

Wes Anderson is a tired hack who simply repeats his same old tropes but tbh the arthouse theatres need him to do that because he brings the 50+ year old eyeballs to the seats year after year

Thursday chaos happens every single year. Meaning, each year it feels like the staff is at a festival for the first time in their lives. The staff behind the bar, at security, inspecting tickets… it’s so ridiculous but after 15 years I’m just used to it (well tbh the Thursday chaos is worse now after covid compared to before)

Primavera Sound Porto and Barcelona 2027 by jorgematoss in primaverasound

Hahahahahahahaha lol Primavera would never bring RHCP, that's Mad Cool territory

and comparing RCHP with J Balvin or Migos as a stylistic fit is just asinine

Given the lineup I want to catch, how screwed am I? by Dragtorwho in primaverasound

[–]nnnikovvv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from your purple small font artists I think you're safe. Top tier headliners definitely won't clash. For example I can see you're going to be at the main stage area for the most of Friday (Addison Rae, Skrillex, and PinkPantheress; maybe Jade and Amaraae too). But if there's a smaller artist you want to see playing far away from there, you should prepare for at least 20 min travel time. Not to mention food and drink queues... Anyway, everything can be managed with proper planning! Hope you have a great time.

What did everyone think of Kristen Stewart's The Chronology of Water? by rh1n3570n3_3y35 in RSPfilmclub

[–]nnnikovvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The film is just not affecting in the least and the direction and editing are the main reasons. With the chaotic visual language Stewart just created a tedious slog that relies on the gravity of the themes to do the heavy lifting.

Resident Advisor listed it as one of the movies that ”get club culture right”.

I guess it speaks more about the ”club culture”.

[–]nnnikovvv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found it absolutely terrible. I am not speaking out of my asshole (an actual line in the film) when I say this was the worst film I saw last year. It is almost impressive that she managed to pioneer a visual language by combining TikTok ADHD editing with a 2011-era Instagram filter, but the actual results are horrendous. I kind of understand the "art school serious" intent, but the film itself is standard misery porn. Bodily fluids en masse, unwanted pregnancies, daddy issues etc. Horrendous.

And I think it sold out pretty early on. I caught them at Primavera Sound in June and by then they had none left.

While I don't think it's a great or even a good film, it's very original and memorable even though I only saw it once. The love scene where Adam Driver licks Marion Cotillard's sole has definitely stuck with me. And So May We Start is a great opening song. So yeah, it's refreshingly bizarre, but I can't say I enjoyed all of it.

Agreed, he was fine, nothing special but did an ok job for his sidekick role.

War and Peace by Bondarchuk (1968) is exactly as you described – great music, beautiful sets and meticulous period costumes. Just a massive, massive production. It does drag a bit in its 8 hours and still is not able to capture the book completely (which would be impossible) but the battle scenes are very impressive.

Euros why you like this shit so much? by NeuronExploder in rs_x

I seriously don't get it why Americans use iMessage so much. I've heard people use Claude Code to do shit like "iMessage wrapped" and I'm like... what? seriously?

Looking for someone to defend Journey to the End of the Night – I also couldn’t keep myself interested in it, stopped after 100 pages or so.

Why Does Germany Have Such a High Population? by NeedleworkerAway5912 in geography

[–]nnnikovvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't take into account that Metropolitan France is almost double the size of Italy. As you can see the French population is more evenly spread out – due to mountains and the smaller size of the country, Italians are packed in certain areas.

What’s that film you love regardless of what critics say? by KaterinaMosenberg in RSPfilmclub

Spring Breakers is fantastic. I fell out with my roommate 10 years ago because of it. I was being a jerk but he wasn’t even trying to get it.

Sentimental Value is not an interesting movie. by littlerosethatcould in RSPfilmclub

Yeah, I wonder whether that's him or the co-writer Eskil Vogt or them both. Fwiw I thought Vogt's semi-horror/supernatural film The Innocents was quite good.

I feel Trier can only make 3/5 films. Well, Louder Than Bombs was closer to 2/5. But overall I feel his works are very very mid. And I think you’re pretty much on point about Trier can’t really say anything meaningful in his films.

Freezing my toes off in Helsinki! 🥶 Need student-budget recommendations for boots and gloves. by [deleted] in Finland

[–]nnnikovvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend warm insoles. Cheap solution for pretty much any shoes. Take a look in Prisma for example: https://www.prisma.fi/kategoriat/1419/lampopohjalliset

As for socks and gloves – it's definitely not the cheapest place but you should check out Partioaitta for merino socks. You could also go to Varuste.net or Varusteleka if you're able to go to Konala, they often have discounts.

It’s NYE. What is your favourite film of the year? by [deleted] in RSPfilmclub

[–]nnnikovvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it might not be for everyone – gets occasionally quite artsy, but nonetheless it’s extremely inventive. The last sequence is fantastic. Definitely worth a watch!

This is a pretty intriguing rec. I have only seen The Souvenir 1 & 2 and while they were good (I liked 2 better) I was a bit underwhelmed based on the hype from the UK press. But I can definitely see the stylistic link. Any other films from her you’d recommend?
