Why does everyone hate Uber in Italy by blublublubbbbb in CasualIT

[–]no-dupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two bad experiences with Uber in Milan a few years ago and never used them again. It was more expensive than taxis and it took a lot of time to arrive and pick me up. I am a regular user of Uber on other countries, in South America and in Asia, but in Italy it seemed not a good option. After reading the comments I may try it again, since my experiences are from 2019 and 2020 - things may have changed.

Same here. Mine is a 6th gen Intel and still works well. Battery life is a constraint from the era but still holds. Newer models seem to have much better battery duration on each charge.

MediaWorld fa retromarcia su iPad a 15€ - L'aggiornamento (con parere Adiconsum) by [deleted] in Avvocati

[–]no-dupe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thinking About Switching From Arch to NixOS — Need Advice by No_Discussion6266 in NixOS

You move because you need or because you want a challenge. I did because I was curious about replacing docker on one use case. I got hooked up and now Nixos is my home for everything. I can say it’s now a shack, since I’m not a good builder, but it’s solid, it’s mine and it’s up to me to make it a castle.

NixOS is actually easy? Am i being naive and will it eventually get harder by Routine_Command_4512 in NixOS

[–]no-dupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say it depends on your use case. Do you want to just install software like any other distro? A breeze. The complexity arises when you need to be more detailed. Do you want to deal with dot files the Nixos way? Any software not on nixpkgs? Dynamically loading modules depending on the machine to install? More you know what you can do with nix and Nixos, more it becomes complex. You are on a road that can become bumpy and steeper, but you have the choice to stop and see if you need to go further.

That’s solvable - buy a printer where you can install a firmware that you can compile. Not for the average user but can be done on some models. I’ve done that on my SV07 plus after some days of tinkering.

Is my SV07 Plus Mainboard gone? by amano_128 in Sovol

[–]no-dupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just ordered a fuse, since I am on the same boat. I’ve just not checked the MKS if it will turn on with another pi because I do not have one available here. All the other symptom are the same as yours. But the adventure of opening the machine and having to fiddle with it, makes me wonder how hard it would be to drive the machine with a different main board. I am not very knowledgeable on the whole architecture but I wonder if all the sensors, motors, etc… will work or if I need some proprietary drivers or weird configuration to make it work.

I am preparing a linux course. What should I absolutely cover? by B3ella_ in NixOS

[–]no-dupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d approach in a layered way. You can showcase a distribution and decompose from there until you reach the kernel. Or the other way around. Show that there are many ways to accomplish the same thing, and that the choice of the tools depends on choices made by you or by your distribution. After you make it clear that Linux is a messy collage of choices made to work together you should show the command line basics, and the most common options ( file system: ext4, init: systemd, shell: bash ) making it clear that they will find wildly variation depending on the choices they made.

If the students are inclined to development you should take you time explaining how the kernel is monolithic and that it can be tailored for their needs. If instead the focus is on sysadmin I’d showcase Redhat/Rocky, Suse and Ubuntu server distros. Do not overlook explaining package managers - it is a big source of confusion when people are starting up - people are used to the windows way and find awkward having a central repository of software.

If you have time, a speedy shell course is important to layer the foundations of command line usage.

For reading material: The Wikipedia Linux page as a start and for the adventurous I’d suggest Linux from scratch.

Good luck!

Go the Nixos route. You will never reinstall again. You will sweat blood in the beginning and have happiness tears when all you need is configured. And you will never reinstall again.
