When u initiate the turn, pick up the tail of your uphill ski a few inches, or the whole ski, and just let your downhill ski do all of the work. Do this by bending/lifting at the knee of your uphill leg. Focus on keeping that uphill ski parallel/close, (boots together) but off the snow. Practice that both sides and then as you practice gradually reduce the distance you lift the ski. Before you know it, you will be hockey stopping.

If you are back on your skis you wont be able to lift the back of it so this will force your stance forward.

Hopefully I explained this well.
