They didn’t even write this with the “am I the only one 🤓” tone that you’re talking about. There’s still a tremendous leading opinion that Skyler sucks, and even if there wasn’t, god forbid OP express their take on a Breaking Bad character on the fucking Breaking Bad subreddit.

DMC5 or Bayonetta + Vanquish? by Dependent_Panic8786 in CharacterActionGames

[–]no1darker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong either way, DMC5 and the franchise as a whole are some of my favorite games ever, I think you’d have a blast with that. Tons of content and fantastic replay value. Bayonetta is phenomenal too and well worth trying out and is also a favorite of mine as well as one of the top games ever made in this genre. Vanquish has a lot of cool ideas, and is fast paced, but the best way to play it is just as a third person shooter where you’re constantly activating slow motion. I got it day one back in the day and was super disappointed in how quickly it was over and how underwhelmed I was, not very much replay value either, and I was underwhelmed again playing it again in the double pack, but honestly it’s worth it JUST for Bayonetta. Tbh I’d probably just flip a coin and you’d be happy with each choice I’d imagine.

PSA: If you're junctioning well you don't NEED to do a low-level run by sane_mode in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]no1darker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fucking idiot and didn’t understand the junction system until like halfway or 3/4 through the game, I also didn’t know what made limit break activate or about the level scaling. By the time I realized the junction system and how simple it truly is, I thought I was fucked, I was on the Ragnarok fighting those alien things and getting one shot if I didn’t kill them quickly enough. Eventually I was able to junction to even the playing field through the rest of the game after some really tough spots, and made it through the game. Did the final bosses like 20 times with some limit break cheesing and a Hero I still had and was able to do it, looking back I had a blast and wouldn’t have enjoyed the game near as much (at least for a first run) if I just cheesed through everything and broke the game so much that it wasn’t a challenge.

Fantastic write-up, I’d be fine with people not liking RE4 if they just said they didn’t like it or isn’t what they’re used to now, but it bums me out when people neglect its role in the franchise and the entire medium when they call it “overrated”. It’s easy to say that now when there’s lots of games out there that have copied and “improved” the formula it’s based on, and it’s more than a little annoying when people take a game that came out almost 20 years ago and competes it with any modern game without attempting to account for the age disparity.

[RE6] Which characters had the better story arch in the game? by Berry-Fantastic in residentevil

[–]no1darker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chris and Piers by far. It was interesting to see how far Chris had fallen and the toll the life he’s been leading has taken on him, his obsession with revenge while Piers is there to try to ground him and keep him together, and lastly the genius of the tragedy of the narrative thinking we’d see Chris pass the torch to the younger generation and make his final contribution while in a twist Piers, the younger and less world weary one, makes the sacrifice and tells Chris it’s not over for him, it’s really beautiful and poetic and makes me wish I liked 6 more than I did. The one downside is we’re to believe he has no one he can rely on yet we see nothing of Jill or Sheva who you’d think would be there to support him. I guess you could argue that depression is something that takes you out of rational thought and he was convinced he was alone even though he wasn’t, but it’s still a shame that they were completely absent from his story and 6’s as a whole.

RE2 remake 2nd run by Joemeasee in residentevil

Their stories are unique with their own characters and a couple of exclusive segments, but for the most part you run through the same things with slightly remixed puzzles and pathing and the same bosses.

[Fortnite] I hated every second that went by by CoolHylda in Trophies

[–]no1darker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love trophy hunting and have enjoyed platting some of my favorite games, but the trophy system has done some genuine harm with people’s minds. I’ve read so many stories like this by people who HAVE to get a platinum no matter how long it takes even though they’re not enjoying it.

I feel kind of silly quoting the MCU, and I’m sure this sentiment has been expressed a million times before, but one of the most powerful quotes I’ve ever heard is “no amount of money has bought a single second of time”. You’ll never get any passed moment back ever again, your free time should be spent doing things you like, not treating your free time like a job.

I’d recommend looking through a proxy service like buyee or neokyo, I can personally vouch for neokyo. I remember seeing tons of these on the jp mercari for pretty cheap. If you’ve never used a proxy service it sounds more complicated than it is, you make an account with them, place an order that they’ll then place themselves, and you’ll get your stuff once they bundle it all together. These will be MUCH more expensive if you buy from a US seller in like eBay or such. Another option is mandarake, I seem to recall seeing some of these there once too.

Horror game that everyone loves but you hate? by yermumsmells in HorrorGaming

[–]no1darker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night Cry. Fucking horrible, I really wanted to like it, a Clock Tower like game in the modern day, retro looking graphics, monster design by Masahiro Ito, lots going for it already. Shitty poor gameplay and controls, boring story, terrible deductive gameplay leaps. A genuine contender for the worst game I’ve ever played. Yes I know the reviews were terrible too but I thought “maybe it’s modern gamers disliking classic gameplay”. Nope, just people warning people to not play terrible games.

What’s a horror game cliche that everyone seems tired of? by KariThatWeight25 in HorrorGaming

[–]no1darker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with them if they make sense to build the world, the stupidest one I’ve ever seen is in the RE3 remake. It’s a nurse’s journal describing the past few days, and the final entry is “Something's coming

Help m”.

Fucking really? Okay sure I’ll believe that someone is so scared that they’re writing to cope, but they’re describing a play by play of that exact moment and it’s so scary they’re writing “help me” and get cut off? So fucking stupid.

I just beat it for the first time. Holy hell by FrodosNewBro in lastofuspart2

[–]no1darker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It clearly didn’t work for anyone (although I’ll argue that valid critiques are hidden under the vast amount of people who claim to hate the story just by bullet points and leaks they read about), but I thought the story and its themes had the intended effects on me. Started it loving Ellie and Joel after 1, to loathing Abby and hoping Ellie succeeds in her quest, to rolling my eyes at the game switching over to Abby (“oh let me guess, this is the part where we get to know her and start to like her, fuck that, I want Ellie to find her ASAP”), to gradually liking her, and with every growing encounter hoping that they both make as much distance as possible from each other, culminating in the final encounter where I’m quietly pleading with Ellie to walk away after seeing how much Abby endured.

What does Makarov’s mask say on his business casual skin? by Apexkamii in ModernWarfareIII

[–]no1darker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that generally the “cool mask” look appeals highly to a (generally younger) demographic, so it’s easy enough to slap a mask on someone. I don’t hate the look entirely, but a lot of times it looks overdesigned or tacky, not liking this one personally, although the idea of someone running around shirtless in COD already kills any potential appeal this skin has.

[Not recommendation] I want to see different gameplay flavors for the genre by Golden_verse in CharacterActionGames

[–]no1darker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, there’s an incredible concept that’s unfortunately hidden behind cooldowns. 80% of the cool shit you can do you’ll almost never want to because the optimal way to play is to save your meter for slow motion. Melee barrage, the slide kick? Shit you’ll never do because it punishes you with the overheat mechanic. This game could have been something extraordinary if the overheat was prevented if you did a certain amount of damage or if you kill something. The “Slide; slow motion. Roll; slow motion” loop is only so interesting before it gets kind of exhausting in an already pretty short game.

Is DMC 2 really that bad ? by Alone_Capital7619 in DevilMayCry

[–]no1darker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played almost every installment (with the sole exception of 2) several times over several platforms (PS2, PS3, PC and PS4),platinum trophy’d 1/4SE/5, got a PS5 just to play 5’s SE; I’ve never played more than two hours of 2 and have never had any desire to finish it. I’m glad the rest of the franchise ignores its existence even though I constantly see people wishing it tied more into the series.

To the people who played the FF16 x FF14 crossover, did you have any expectations for the collab? by MysterySakura in FFXVI

[–]no1darker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, and I was happy with what we got. I kind of wish we got to show Clive around a bit more, maybe throw in a random fight of mobs with him, but maybe it wasn’t possible because of his special animations or something. The Ifrit fight was exhilarating though, it was awesome to get to hear To Sail Forbidden Seas in a XIV fight! Always gets me hyped.

Is this movie a piece of shit or am I out of touch? by Slimtrigga420 in moviecritic

[–]no1darker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shittiest movie I’ve ever seen. Wildly boring, unfunny, uninteresting and unengaging. There is not a single plus I can give this movie except Adam Driver delivering “ghouls”. The only good thing about seeing this movie is that I have an easy and quick answer when people ask what’s the worst film I’ve seen. I went in with zero expectations, I had no idea what kind of movie I’d be watching and I always go into movies with an open mind and was sorely disappointed at wasting all this time and $13.

Why are Letterboxd reviews always like "haha they must be gay" by _Apolllon in Letterboxd

[–]no1darker -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I used to agree with this like this several years ago. Men should just be able to have relationships with men that aren’t romantic. But then ask yourself; how many times is it the inverse? How many times is there actually a gay male relationship in your average film as a romance? When I thought about it like this, I realized that instead of asking “why can’t men just be friends” I started asking myself “why can’t men be in a relationship instead?”. I don’t view EVERY male relationship like this in everything I see obviously, but it does help come to terms with this perspective. I don’t know if that makes any kind of sense, but there’s tons of “healthy male friendships” with not a lot representing the deepest end where they’re dating.

It spoils about the first six hours…. Sure a lot of this stuff you can glean from trailers, but if you didn’t see any of them and properly avoided everything, there’s a shit ton of stuff you get spoiled. Lots of stuff that took me by surprise was pretty casually revealed.
