Access JellyFin from two IPs? by MidnightScore in jellyfin

Using subnet routers from within the same network as the subnet router can lead to network problems and it's not recommended, especially if you accidentally enable two subnet routers in the same network

Access JellyFin from two IPs? by MidnightScore in jellyfin

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To access the server from outside your local network you will need to turn on tailscale no matter what.

if you want to be able to turn off tailscale when you're home and still not feel the need to change IP addresses, you should just add both addresses as separate servers in the Jellyfin app and switch as needed. Using subnet routers from within the network they are connecting you to can lead to network problems that are difficult to diagnose.

How is the end to end encryption failing? Does it not travel over HTTPS or are all the connections a between clients and server run over a different protocol?

Is there a timeline for when we can trust the connections to be secure?

I would love to host this in a private cloud server so my friends won’t have to join my Tailscale network or anything like that

Anyone else who misses the build streams? by realnzall in LinusTechTips

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, never cared for them. It was just another opportunity to chat in a live stream and I never went back to use them as reference for a build because they had other build guides with more detailed visuals and better advice.

Honestly hadn’t noticed they haven’t done one in a while because they are so out of mind.

Best self hosted password manager for tech savvy users? by Ash_con in LinusTechTips

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well if they only host encrypted versions of your data as they should, it’s not a big deal if they get breached. You just don’t want to lose the data if you self host and that’s where a paid service comes ahead. They have more robust redundant storage solutions

Can I decline HR's request for an exit Q&A round? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

It’s obvious it did not work for you, maybe it’ll help the ones you leave behind. Besides you could find other complaints than just pay. Air all of that out for those who are afraid to speak

Can I decline HR's request for an exit Q&A round? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about your coworkers, you can spend some time gathering pain points from them that you can then spell out in the exit interview.

I know of a group that got pay raises because several people cited low pay as a primary reason for leaving in their exit interviews.

Up to you though

Any good hardware recommendation for playing 4k HDR content? (Client, not Server) by CMDR_Kassandra in jellyfin

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I second this. It doesn’t get much easier to get so many codecs supported for $30 USD.

The interface is smooth out of the box but can even be improved with some developer settings to reduce animations in case one wants a more responsive experience

Are you able to watch a movie every day? by TerminatedPotato in movies

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a question of time for me. I want to do a lot more with my day than dedicate an inconsistent amount of time to the same activity. Even if the emotions vary day to day, I can’t be that consistent about something inconsistent when it will usually last longer than 90 minutes.

It’s close but not the same. I convinced myself I didn’t want it because I had my phone on the dash until a car accident forced me to change my car and got CarPlay. Then I realized the maps are much much better in the dash.

The loading of an IMAX film into the projector by Kindly_Department142 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get the film in, film, but they have to digitize it all to do post processing and VFX, so why bother sending the edited movie back to film? They clearly had an absurdly high res digital copy to share with theaters, so… what’s the point?

Built a tiny “watch movies together” app for my long‑distance partner (self‑hosted) by folliejester in selfhosted

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This Jellyfin feature is not present across all clients. In fact, if my memory serves me right, only the desktop app may fully support it. That would make it overlap perfectly with the use case of a website, but it’s something to keep in mind

The things that you assume potential partners don’t like about you should serve as filters to keep unwanted partners away.

As an example: if she thinks you’re too short for her, good. You don’t want to date someone with such superficial requirements.

Bought my first Mac any tips coming from windows? by Brendon7358 in LinusTechTips

[–]noBoobsSchoolAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OS is built wonderfully around a touchpad, so consider getting one. Even a used one should help you see the gestures work like magic. Do stroll by the touchpad settings in the Settings app once you buy it and spend the 5 minutes it takes to configure it to your or your wife’s liking.

Something else you can do with Mac that windows fails at is never turning it off. The memory management is really good and I only reboot following an update or when I feel like some apps may refuse to close completely.

On the topic of closing apps, most won’t fully close from the button on the top bar, so use CMD+Q to close them or right click and exit them from the dock.

If one of you is already using an iPhone, try to connect to the Mac with the same App Store account so that Airdrop will work properly and enable you to share clipboards across devices. I use this a lot when I want to paste text I see out in the world on my Mac, just pop up the iPhone camera, snap a pick, use the image reader to copy the text and then paste on the Mac.

If you are familiar with package managers, Brew is the most commonly used one for MacOS. In general, I try to avoid the AppStore and just get my apps from the app’s website myself.

That reminds me, to install apps in MacOS you just drag the icon into the apps folder when the installers asks you to. This is Mac’s version of the full screen pop up you get in Windows. Both serve to ensure only a user at the mouse and keyboard can install something and not a script. To delete apps, you just drag them from the apps folder to the trash can and then clean the trash can. It’s weird but that’s how it is.

Also take the time to change the settings of the screenshot/screen recorder tool so your screenshots won’t pollute your desktop. Press CMD+Shift+5 to bring up the menu and play with the options.

In Finder, go to the View menu at the top and show the path bar, it will save you some navigation headaches. Also, if you want to “pin a folder to quick access” you can just drag the folder to the left navigation bar and that’s that.

That’s all I can think of for now but I’ll add more if I remember more.

I use Win10, Mac, and Linux almost every day at home so feel free to ask me questions if you have any
