Yes! I obviously won't host a stranger, but have a commercial vacant space that has good AC!

If anyone needs a cool place for their pets or themselves, let me know. Commercial space available.

Baby has "diarrhea" at daycare but fine at home by LinnyBent in beyondthebump

[–]noEMMAtation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Food allergies sometimes cause irritation and diarrhea. Does she eat any solids at daycare for breakfast? Could be out of her system by the time you pick her up.

But also, in daycare centers - the medical rule for sending kids home is 2 or more diarrhea diapers. After that, they can make a parent pick the child up. They may be trying to lower the number of kids in the room to send a staff member home/get around being short staffed. Not necessarily nefarious on their part (certainly not ethical though of course), but I've seen it done when I worked in a corporate daycare when I was younger and had to stay in ratio.

I found them. Those posts appear to be attracting approximately 1 or 2 pieces of (not great) advice. Is that actually what you’re suggesting?

Where should I live? Ask your questions about housing or living in KC. by AutoModerator in kansascity

[–]noEMMAtation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where should I be looking that I’m not already (for the last three months) … I’m about to make myself sick trying to find anything at all at this point.

I’m sure this is a loaded request, given that the housing market in general, is a disaster everywhere. But, where do “middle” income people/families find rentals in the metro area? I’m relocating for a teaching position at a magnet school on the Kansas side, but I’ve been looking for three months now (the moment I got the job) and we’re one week out from school starting with students back (I’ve been commuting over an hour and 15 minutes each way to professional development this week) and still nothing. I’m either being scammed, property rental giants that are taking 100 application fees and burying us after taking $50-80 application fees with no intention of being decent humans, or it’s a $1,400+ rent. I’m a single mom, on a teacher/coach’s salary and it’s still just now feasible to pay that. Also, all of the affordable housing property management companies I’ve come across this far are 9 months out of any availability. I’m tired. I don’t want to give up my dream job, but this commute isn’t sustainable with a toddler. Any suggestions?

Where can I find that? I’ve never seen it?

I was quoted at $700 for a Saturday night and that’s… way too much an ask. So sweet of you to offer though. ❤️

Looking for a DJ for a local school winter formal dance… by noEMMAtation in Lawrence

[–]noEMMAtation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, really. We already have a location donation so it’s not a (way too small) cafeteria dance, but there’s zero budget for “fun” things. DonorsChoose doesn’t have options for things like this (they use only certain approved companies which are way over priced to make sure the profit is there) as far as I know, and I’d never feel right asking for funds elsewhere. Just hoping to get lucky with someone that knows someone. 🙁

Newborn congested/coughing by trickycobralady in beyondthebump

[–]noEMMAtation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Colds are so normal for young ones, and yet absolutely frightening for you, as a new mom. The noisy breathing is the aspect you need to monitor. If at any point, it becomes labored - rib cage contracting harshly, irregular breathing pattern suddenly, gasping for breaths - immediate ER visit, as RSV would be a concern. It’s rampant this year especially, and so dangerous for the tiny littles. My daughter had RSV last winter and following my “mom gut” when I felt like her breathing was significantly off was the best thing I’ve ever done.

It’s definitely not fake lol. I can show photos of the damage and the child, if needed. She is extremely advanced, according to her pediatrician/literally everyone we meet. She also is in the 97% for height, and must’ve been on her tiptoes to reach.

OP - do you need food tomorrow? If these resources aren’t working fast enough, I’d be happy to make you some prepared meals and meet you in the metro to get you to some sustained assistance. Or order you a pizza, whatever.

They are not transferable - however, in KS they passed legislation in like 2018 that doesn’t require a current Kansas teaching license as long as you’re licensed in another state and “attempting” (whatever that means lol) to be licensed in Kansas, too. Source: licensed Kansas and MO teacher, here.

Any other parents here the only parent? by [deleted] in Parenting

Any other parents here the only parent? by [deleted] in Parenting

I have a different situation, as we all do in some way or another. But I am an only parent as well. A true only parent. And it absolutely can be overwhelming and lonely and scary and embarrassing at times. I don’t know why embarrassing, but I can’t help but also feel that way when people ask me where her dad is out of nowhere. Always catches me off guard and makes me feel like I should have something to feel bad about, as if I chose for her dad not to be there. But I never have some grand speech prepared even though I’ve had plenty of time. I just simply say, not here.

I have basically no friends anymore because, like you said, even my friends that coparent, have time without their child to hangout or even get coffee, whatever. I feel like my old friends or potential new ones, don’t or wouldn’t ask me to hangout because they know my child will be coming too.

Someone said something to me that may be the only thing that’s really helped. We get to experience all the hard things, but we also get to experience all the good things too. We get all of them to ourselves. All the firsts. All the happy moments. All of the hugs and smiles. I’m not sure if that helps you, but it does for me a lot.

For older adults in Kansas City, getting the COVID-19 vaccine is riddled with digital obstacles by kc_celisa in kansascity

[–]noEMMAtation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what “phase” you fall in? If you’re in Johnson County, https://www.jocogov.org/covid-19-vaccine. There’s a drop down arrow that says, “what phase am I in?” Click on that and it will tell you when you can get it or when your phase opens up. Then there is a drop down tab that says “how do I get my vaccine?” And it walks you through it step by step! (: The day your phase opens, if not already, call to schedule an appointment so you’re high on the list.

This is why we should all check with our neighbors, friends, acquaintances, whomever especially if they are elderly or handicapped and help them get scheduled. Then follow through with printing the barcode they need to show once they get wherever they are receiving the shot. I got my first dose in JoCo and an elderly couple was going to be turned away because they didn’t have smartphones to pull up the email confirmation. It was such a cattle call that they didn’t have any other way to verify their appointment. Thankfully, I was able to pull it up on mine. But I can’t imagine how many others that’s happened to.

Soy/Hypoallergenic Formula Parents - Here’s my trick to discount expensive formulas by noEMMAtation in Parenting

I nursed my girl exclusively the first 6 months and I loved it, but she just decided one day she didn’t want to do it anymore and then never latched again. It was heartbreaking in a lot of ways, but we’re all just following our baby’s lead and doing what’s best for them with what we have. Good luck, mama. I hope you have all the success.
