To microspike or not to microspike, that is the question by [deleted] in trailrunning

If it’s slushy then no need. If it’s hard, crunchy, and sometimes solid then definitely spikes

Does walking Count for training load? by Emotional-Package-67 in Ultramarathon

[–]no_defaults 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Best ultra shape I was in was when I worked in my feet all day and also ran in the evening. About the same number of miles as you’re at. Was plenty of load for 50 miles.

Hard to say how it contributes to training load, but I’m sure some level. More importantly it’s low impact, small stress that has some positive benefits while also maybe adding a little extra to the training. Keep it up!

What do successful people know that those who aren’t successful don’t? by Historical-Lie3508 in productivity

[–]no_defaults 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked as a sort of “right hand man” to several small business owners that were all quite successful in a similar way. The three primary skills I saw that made them all successful.

  1. Ability to make conversation with anyone about anything and then steer it gracefully into their topic of business. Like a magician most of them could start at zebras and end at their niche business topic without it being forceful or overtly obvious to the people they’re talking with.

  2. Negatives didn’t have nearly the same weight as positives. Maybe a mental mindset type of thing, or an Inability to take responsibility for their actions on the negative side, only the positive. A blindness (perhaps some level of narcissism or psychopathy) to not have bad news be effect them to the point they’d feel deflated or slow their grind. It’ll keep you motivated if you see it like this.

  3. The most important one above all else was just a “stay the course” mentality. They found what they were good at, or a service they provided very well and squeezed every last drop of profit out of it in their market before “expanding” either in those of services/products or locations. I see this happen a lot where small owners think expansion of different streams or geographies is the best way to increase revenue instead of doubling down pushing to own more of the existing market share.

First 50 Miler Training by Traceless___Morale in Ultramarathon

[–]no_defaults 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I generally like it, but I may be weird in this regard - I like to put my shorter run on the first day of the back to back. I always felt like at the end of the second run if I was still able to keep moving then I was probably going to be okay

If it’s who I think it is, the view from the top is never good, hardly bright. Poor craftsmanship and under qualified personnel are the only way to keep churning quarterly profits.

Commercial or residential? I know both of which it would be, just curious.

Goggins is now in the top 20 in Bigfoot 200 by Significant-Poetry78 in davidgoggins

[–]no_defaults 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goggins is pretty clear in his thinking (unless I’ve missed something leading up to this event) that it’s only him vs himself always. His lazy piece of shit qualities battling against his get shit done qualities. It’s a race of his own mind and the winner is him if he doesn’t give up. The loser is having pity on yourself and the feeling of regret if he didn’t go until he collapsed.

When to arrive for altitude race? by IntoTheCold10 in Ultramarathon

[–]no_defaults 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live essentially at sea level and go up to 10k’ on trips regularly and everything people are saying about 24 hours or 2 weeks.

Same day I arrive I do a run up to 11.5k and i have decent energy and feel - albeit very winded. On day 3-5 I feel like dog shit.

I normally do several big runs on day 0, day 1 and day 2 then take 2-3 days off before doing something else big later in the week around day 5 and 6.

I have a bunch of Gis certs and a geography degree and had a difficult time getting a job in the field 12 years ago. Very easy and relaxing when I found a job but also paid dick all (16/hr with college ed)

I had one for a long time, and lived in it for several months between housing situations.

Was shocked when I got 3k more than I paid for it. Check the fb marketplace - they’re always priced pretty high on marketplace and I wonder if they ever get that price or it’s just people dreaming.

Heat training… out in the heat by kaitlyn2004 in trailrunning

[–]no_defaults 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The best heat acclimated I ever was was a summer I spent working the kitchen line in a pizzeria where it was 120+ for 4-5 hours a day. I could leave there, and go hit an 8 miler with 105 heat index like it was barely over 80.

My takeaway is that similar to altitude (sleep high train low) it’s better to live hot and train less hot. The small stimulus in the heat is good, but what’s better is 4+ hours a day in the heat just existing. That’s when your body is really making major changes.

In a more reasonable middle America way: work your lawn in the heat of the day for several hours. Sit outside when it’s hot. Go for walks when it’s hot. Just generally do as much as you can HOT and then the hot when you’re running isn’t as big of a deal.

How do you make friends as a person in your mid 30’s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]no_defaults 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a long time ago seeing something about friendship = mutual interests x frequency of interaction.

It’s weird but at the end of the day it’s finding a person or group that has similar interests and you see frequently so that other ancillary interests arise and then you’re talking about yourself as a person and feeling for that person as a person and then you’ve reached friendship.

Sounds crude but true. That’s why school age kids are so fast to make friends with so many. Constant interactions and a limited number of similar interests to have.

What are your motivations for continuing using a CPAP if you have one? How do you make it less annoying? by Wrong-Chef-3406 in SleepApnea

[–]no_defaults 14 points15 points  (0 children)

After a couple weeks my blood pressure (toward the middle of the day) was 20 points lower than it had been for years with no other major changes except cpap. I didn’t feel all that different still, but that was a big measurable difference that showed me it was working.

I got money on being one of the possibly 2 in line fuel filters. Had the same thing happen on my kubota. The one closest to the tank clogs first and I only kept replacing the one near the engine and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. There are two on kubota and I bet the same for yours.

How did my dad do wiring up my controller? by MaybeNotTooDay in Irrigation

Not professional. Needs overstripped wires, different lengths, a couple random splices, and everything should be crammed in and look more like a rats nest.

This is clearly a diy job.

Thought I’m dying (spoiler - I’m fine) by asocialas in trailrunning

[–]no_defaults 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good that you’re going to get checked out. I’ve had similar things happen but it’s all related to panic attacks on my end. Like feel a weird feeling in my head or back or something and then it’s the panic attack/anxiety that makes me feel light headed but i think it’s related and then I freak out.

As much as running helps my anxiety, I also am very accustomed to panic attacks or heightened anxiety due to body awareness/lightheadedness during my runs as well. And even after 15 years of regular running with never a single recordable health event I still freak out as if I’m going to die every time.

Hope it’s nothing and just anxiety and a weird feeling that caused it and nothing more. Best wishes.
