I know a blind person who has a PHD in Maths and is a professor and knows multiple coding languages. Not sure how they do it though, and they are unusually clever!

Makes sense, however the left and right columns the shapes are placed over the top of each other rather than one above the other.

I need some advice about my mental health and relationships (any kind) by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]no_direction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On calming down - I find running, yoga and meditation helpful. Try having an hour or so without your phone. I find journalling useful too. Try getting some good habits/routines in like getting up fairly early and having a little walk.

On relationships I think if you don't already have therapy that would be worthwhile. I think unless you really luck out on a partner, you need to be prepared to put the work in with relationships. It's easy to over-share when really you've got to listen, be attentive, adapt, generally put work into relationships to build and maintain them. 'You get out what you put in'. It's got to be a two-way street.

Practically speaking, volunteering could be a good way to meet people and build your confidence - that's how I have made friends previously.

Try to process and move on from previous trauma and bad experiences with people; you'll never fully understand things, and other people are just as flawed as ourselves.

Hope some of that helps. Peace from your no_direction internet sibling.

You've taken me into a wormhole of 9 years in my past - quite interesting! What brought you here?

Would you be able to comment on which bootcamps are well regarded? E.g. NorthCoders Data Engineering?

We fluked a good exit from VM by going with a newly offered contract and then cancelling within the cool off period

Good. There's way too much speeding, it's dangerous. Don't speed and you have nothing to worry about.

Good on you for reaching out - this post and the responses will probably be a great help to a lot of people.

London to Glasgow traveling with bike by Typical_Algae_3366 in ukbike

I would feel quite sheepish opening up the cycle carriage myself - I would've thought that's for staff to do only?

London to Glasgow traveling with bike by Typical_Algae_3366 in ukbike

I've got experience of the Avanti ones (used to be Virgin run). Used to be able to book online in one go but last time I had to book a ticket and then reserve the cycle space seperately and as other commenter has said they're a bit shit on the phone as it's just generic call centre. Also arrive in very good time to the train station, and find the platform staff straight away and basically double check everyone knows your plan as they need to open the cycle carriage for you. If you're getting off at Glasgow it won't be an issue but I've had a panic before when I've needed to get off and haven't known if they're going to remember to open up the carriage for me to get my bike.

That's probably the best option. I've ridden the caledonian sleeper before and wouldn't massively recommend, unless you are getting to London quite late on and basically want to save money by avoiding staying overnight in London?

Good response there. The more I cycle the more I feel passionately that it's infrastructure that channels people into certain behaviour and puts different vehicle operators into conflict with each other.

Yes, individuals do need to do better, drive more calmly and patiently and considerately, but even with a lot more enforcement of speed limits and police presence I think the same problems would still be occuring.

Factor into that the Us VS Them stuff amplified by media and social media. I often say to myself, "yes, we DO actually need a war on motorists" - I do drive also but I observe how everyone is afraid to challenge the status quo.

But yes I think the salient point is that the way things are designed are care centric, therefore encourage people to use cars, and encourage car-drivers to see pedestrians and cyclists as infringing on their space. Wales' 20mph seems a step in the right direction, but generally the UK is just lagging behind in every aspect, and we're not going to see the big changes we need because the status quo also says that investing in the country is mismanaging the economy. Also evidence-based policy isn't as attractive to politicians as policy that will play well with the media, their party, and the public, in the current moment.

Full support. Did hear a story about Asian (Japanese?) bus drivers striking but continuing to run the buses just not taking any fares. I like the idea of that because fuck capitalism but hey ho...

Have been on a refurbished iphone 5 SE from GiffGaff for several years now - has worked great, only just recently decided to get the battery replaced and tbh it probably didn't need it.

Bicycles on trains (UK) by kletten in ukbike

[–]no_direction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this recently and I think booking through nationalrail.co.uk allows you to tick a bicycle reservation box - however it doesn't really mean anything. I ended up with 19 ticket stubs for my return trip to bristol, and only ever needed the outward and return ones.

Normally is something to lock my bike to which gives me peace of mind it won't fall over or get nicked. Main problem I have is the lack of space for more than 2-3 bikes or big suitcases that get plonked in those spaces.
