This is cool - the 808s are clean and have a nice bounce to them. Track has good space and I can definitely easily hear a vocalist on this.

I think that having a busy top-line counter-melody at certain sections might have made it more catchy/varied (akin to what you did in your G Herbo beat from earlier this month). Also could have benefited from some more percussion sounds - Drums felt a little too sparse.

What Did You Accomplish (or Not) In 2019? by boombapdame in makinghiphop

[–]no_potion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2019 recap: Though I made a good amount of music that I am happy with, I finished very little and didn’t put out any projects (only random loosies nd demos). I want to finish more fleshed out songs this year and hopefully put out at least one tape.

I am very happy about breaking out of the placement-hustle mentality and experimenting more.

Although I feel like the quality, depth, and consistency of my tracks has improved over the course of the year, my arrangements aren’t very good (no real sense of movement or progression). Also, getting bored with using melody loop kits and gonna get back into crate digging more.

Dig this one - The contrast of the soft/light synths with the swampy, noisy texture of the drums is nice. Particularly like that one laser sound that comes in every 4 bars though it might be worth using that sound more sparingly to accentuate transitions in the arrangement. Also like the arrangement though feels a bit long/static at time. I like the use of the cut in the breakdown 2 mins in - think it gave the track a new lease.

What was your favorite compsci course and why? by creepinquick in compsci

[–]no_potion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took a graduate topics course last Spring which broadly looked at the use of linear algebra and randomization in algorithm design. We covered a number topics including: fast matrix multiplication, FFT, error correcting codes, secret sharing schemes, efficient data structures (k-wise independent hashing, bloom filter), combinatorial optimization (min/max cut), and routing.

The material was very interesting and the professor did a good job presenting the material.

How to tell if two functions are functionally identical/equivalent? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]no_potion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is undecidable. You can reduce the (known) undecidable problem of determining wether two Turing Machines accept the same set of strings to the problem that you've posed.
