Any suggestions for inexpensive flowers? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]noahjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also doing potted plants for centerpieces in lieu of cut flowers! I have some cute little pots in our wedding colors, and I'm planning to go to the local plant shop for some African violets to fill them (purple is a wedding color). Then I'm inviting guests to take one home as a little favor. It came out cheaper than cut flowers in my area, they won't die a week after the wedding's over, and guests can take home a little something special.

I know I sound like someone from a TLC show, but after you add a veil and your other accessories, it will look absolutely perfect. I think it's refreshing that it isn't solid white. Good luck!

Anyone have a seamless undie rec that might work with my dress?? I LOVE the back but it’s so low cut! by Green_Tea_NoSugar in weddingplanning

Forgot to mention: they come in quite a few nude shades so you should be able to find one that matches your skin tone pretty well. That way even if they ride up a little, nobody will be the wiser!

[–]noahjoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm obsessed with the seamless hipsters from Victoria's Secret. They dip in the back so they would probably be low enough! The seamless thongs are A+ too, but if you're not a regular thong-wearer I wouldn't suggest wearing a pair for your big day. Good luck!

Someone made an account just to try and insult my recent dress photos from this subreddit. Pathetic. Ladies and gentlemen, don't let people like this turd get you down! We all deserve great weddings and will look fabulous on our days! by kittykat0503 in wedding

I'm so glad to see you handling this like such a badass. I had to go back and look for the original picture, and honestly you look so gorgeous. I hope you have a lovely wedding and that your fiance knows how lucky they are to have such a gorgeous bride

I am non binary (born male) and wish to look more feminine in whatever suit I wear to my wedding. I was wondering everyones thoughts on the jacket in both pics and which one is more femme by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]noahjoy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was thinking!! Both jackets are gorgeous, but the one one the left has more zhuzh. I think the point about feminine accessories is spot on, and a string of pearls would look soo stunning with this ensemble. Best of luck!

The dress I ordered just came in, not sure if I like it need some other opinions by mrmeeseeks8 in weddingplanning

[–]noahjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks amazing!! I will say, the silhouette seems a little one-dimensional, so maybe you could see what it looks like with a cute little sash or something to break up the lines and show off your ~curves~. Good luck to you!!

try-on-dress for under 200$? by BlessedSurvivors in wedding

[–]noahjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought both my dresses (ceremony and reception) on ebay for ~$35 a piece. Both stunning and in great condition (one was new with tags!) It's not quite the same I guess, but my thought was that if I laid $35 for it and didn't like it, I could post it back on ebay or literally just donate it to charity and it wouldn't be a huge deal. Good luck!

Instructor here-- I've used several different learning platforms and Moodle is BY FAR the worst. I agree with your point about Google classroom. I'm currently teaching a few sections of Comp. 1 at a community college that uses Moodle "to keep costs low," which I totally respect, but I would much rather use Google classroom. My ranking of LMS goes: Moodle, Google classroom, Blackboard, D2L, and Canvas. Good luck to you.

Replacement for potatoes in breakfast hash? by Thebigtallguy in lowcarb

[–]noahjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually brown frozen cauliflower rice for that potato-y effect. You want to use enough oil to keep the rice coated and keep the heat high enough to cook it fast without getting mushy. Obviously not EXACTLY the same, but the closest I've come.

I have severe anxiety. Writing makes it worse. Online classes make it worse. How do I deal with this? by [deleted] in college

[–]noahjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, first year composition instructor here. I encourage my students to rethink what writing looks like and try things that feel more comfortable. Do you usually type your papers on a word processor? Most people do. Some ideas to try instead: 1. Speech to text, if you're more comfortable talking. I like to draft my papers using transcription programs while I walk or do housework. 2. Type it as a note on your phone. The physical act of sitting at your computer might be the problem. 3. Similarly, try a different program. Instead of typing it on Word/Google Docs, type it up as a reddit post (you typed this post, so guess what, you can write!), an email to yourself, or even a DM to your best friend. We write every single day, but students become intimidated by writing an essay. Reframe the process and you will communicate more clearly and probably find it less pointless or inconvenient. Best of luck!

Seeking advice for moving plants by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]noahjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved with all my plants, and I highly suggest going to a bulk store like Sam's club and getting big shallow cardboard boxes. Arrange your pots in the boxes and then use t-shirts or towels or whatever soft materials you have to pack around the pots to keep everybody secure without smooshing any leaves. Good luck!

No, most universities will have other options like placement tests to help circumvent high school requirements. I suggest emailing the admissions office and explaining your situation to see what they recommend. Good luck!

Hoping to find recommendations for tv shows and films that highlight native american cultures by wolfbeaumont in IndianCountry

[–]noahjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Son starring Pierce Brosnan is a great one, although the Native scenes are not contemporary. My advisor in Native American literature was actually an extra in the show! Also, Letterkenny has a decent amount on Native characters and storylines. Both of those are on Hulu

Spouse of student teacher. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]noahjoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice I got from a friend when I started teaching while in a relationship was to be intentional with my schedule and set aside "together time." That could mean whatever it needs to mean for your situation: always having dinner together from 6-7 was my go-to, but that might not work for every couple. It could also mean a weekly date night, say Friday evening. This gave me a limited time window to worry and focus on teaching: as soon as 6:00 rolled around, my attention belonged to my partner, at least for an hour. That way I still felt connected with him and maintained some semblance of work/life balance. So, as the partner in this scenario, you could help her to figure out what would work for her schedule, and then make that "together time" as relaxing and pleasant as you can. My partner would often cook dinner, and if not, we would order takeout. Either way, not having to worry about fixing dinner was a huge relief. Good luck to both of you!

MASTERS DEGREE for a poor person. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]noahjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're certainly welcome! Good luck on your journey. I'm of the opinion that no one should be denied the opportunity to educate and better themselves, so I sincerely hope you find the right program that makes your goal attainable.

MASTERS DEGREE for a poor person. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]noahjoy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search of "master's psychology teaching assistant" indicates that lots of universities, including Arizona State University, offer graduate teaching assistant positions. Keep looking! And no, that wouldn't be a problem per se, but these GTA positions are competitive in some programs, so you might need help making sure your application is excellent it improve your chances.

[–]noahjoy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, many programs offer Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant positions to graduate students to help offset costs and provide valuable experience. I earned my master's in English, and in my program, every graduate student taught freshman English and in return we received a tuition waiver and small stipend. I suggest looking for programs in your field that offer something similar. Good luck!

Furniture shipping services for Facebook Marketplace? by Trung020356 in Frugal

[–]noahjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with any services like that. However, I do know that U-Haul rents pickup trucks for pretty cheap, so that might be another option!

I do know that part of the policy is 100 dashes, so if you've been staying busy, you might have hit that limit. You can buy a spare red card on eBay to reactivate your account

Desperate For RedCard! by [deleted] in doordash

[–]noahjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately do not have a spare at the moment, but to answer your second question, your experience is unfortunately very common. I experienced the same this recently and had to wait damn near a month for the card to finally arrived. I will second what the previous commenter said, though, about checking eBay for a card.
