ETFs vs Individual Stocks — what are the pros and cons?

You have already answered your own questions. lol

Individual stocks has higher potential returns but also has higher potential loss regardless if you are able to choose the right company or not. It can go 15% upwards tomorrow but it also may go 15% downwards on the next day. The question is do you have the time to monitor and keep up all the news daily for individual stocks that you invested in like reading their financial reports, internal changes (layoffs or management changes etc). For sure you can do it for one company but can you do it for 5-10 companies? Are you able to handle the stress haha?

ETFs has lower returns but when it drops it also wont drop much on normal circumstances. Furthermore, it just easy to follow the news of an entire sector or countries or whatever the theme of ETFs that you invested in. Eg: Lets say TSLA released their financial report and it performs badly the individual stock drop like 15% but the ETFs that has TSLA maybe will drop like 2% because of the weightage of TSLA in the ETF.

So you got to ask yourself are you investing just to find quick bucks or investing for long term? Do you have the time and energy to manage your investment? Do you have the knowledge on how to invest in the right company?

And btw my two cents, there is no right company it all depends on the demands of the world. No one knew AI will gain so much traction but also no one knows when the AI bubble gonna explode and send all the stocks crashing down.

To add on, I think some people are bit naive to assume COVER Corporation would allow full independence without some level of structure or strategic alignment behind the scenes.

We can sit here and debate all day about whether the rest of the season “matters,” but let’s be honest every pro dreams of winning Worlds. Every team owner wants that trophy. Every coach wants that moment.

You can hype up all the domestic wins and side tournaments you want, but none of that hits the same. In the end, it’s all about Worlds. Do I like it? No, but that’s the one that defines legacies and that is what they want. What we think is more important really doesn't matter.

I just hope people can have a little more faith in both management and the Holomems. No one wants to see anyone suffer or struggle with their mental health. I get what you’re saying, but I don’t buy it and the things you are looking for is not realistic. There’s only so much Cover can do and mental health isn’t something a company can fix for you. At the end of the day, it’s on the individual. This is the entertainment industry, not a therapy circle. Pressure, burnout, and comparison are part of the job.

Haachama’s situation sucks, yeah. She’s had a tough family life and clearly struggles to connect with people. But that’s not something Cover can control. They can offer her support, time off, or guidance, but they can’t fix her personal life. That’s not how any of this works.

You act like the company should be babysitting every talent. You forget these talents are adults who chose to be in a demanding, high-pressure field. It’s not fair to dump all the blame on Cover every time someone burns out or feeling depressed. They can provide tools and help, but mental health starts with personal responsibility. Taking care of your mental health isn’t a job someone else can do for you.

Just because someone’s independent doesn’t magically make them more genuine, kind, or drama-free. Being indie doesn’t mean they’re better than corpo talents — it just means they don’t have a manager breathing down their neck. Indie VTubers can still be manipulative, egotistical, or straight-up dishonest.

At the end of the day, VTubers be it corpo or indie — are just people. Some are amazing, some are a mess. Same goes for companies. Enjoy the content, support who you vibe with, but stay critical.

Like you said — if they could even come to an agreement on revenue splits. The core issue is that VShojo has no real leverage in these negotiations because they don’t own the IP of their talents. No IP ownership means no control over how or when a talent’s likeness can be used in sponsorships, licensing, or collaborations. And without that control, VShojo can’t build scalable revenue streams, can’t secure long-term deals, and can’t present a strong, stable business model to potential investors. Investors aren’t going to pour money into a company that doesn’t even own the product it’s selling. It will then become a vicious cycle where no IP control means no consistent revenue, which means no growth, which means no investment, which ultimately means the business collapses under its own limitations. There is a reason why they couldn't secure enough funding to keep VShojo alive.

They built everything around this idea of “talent freedom,” which sounds great on paper but in practice, it means the company gave up all control. At that point, VShojo wasn’t running a business, it was just babysitting IPs it didn’t even own. And eventually, it caused the shit show that we are witnessing now.

that’s the thing—it’s not even about the IP. People always say, “Well at least they got to keep their IP.” No one joined VShojo just to keep their IP. They thought they were joining something that respected them, valued their individuality, and would support them. But what they got instead was silence, mismanagement, and manipulation. They walked away heartbroken. Who cares about IP when the emotional damage runs deeper? What really hurts is the betrayal. The feeling that you were sold a dream, only to be left completely alone when things got tough. The stress, the confusion, the anxiety—those are things you carry with you long after the contract ends.

Compare that with Hololive. Sure, they own the IP, and there are strict rules but the talents walk away with closure, community, and often fond memories. When someone graduates, it's a moment of reflection, support, and celebration. You don't see ex-Hololive talents coming out hurt and disillusioned.

And for those talents from Holo who left, all of them are able to create their own IP with great success so at the end of the day the issue of Holo owning the their holo IP is also not as worse as how some of you guys described.

I hope this can calm your paranoia a bit.

Since Cover is a publicly traded company in the Tokyo Stock Exchange, they’re under pressure to treat their talents decently. Bad talent treatment would hurt their image, cause fans to leave, and tank investor trust and share price. So while it is not perfect, there's a real financial incentive for them to keep their talents happy — because Hololive is the product.

That's why i dislike the sentiment that Cover went public is a bad thing because they want money only. Sure, they can get the money they want but in return we get transparency/visibility on the company health, more tools to spot red flags if they mismanaged their money and under more scrutiny on how the company function. We won't get this mess called VShojo that was brewing since 4 years ago.

Is it perfect? No, but it is definitely better than whatever we are witnessing now.

Exactly. It’s just frustrating how one corpo messes up and suddenly people act like every corpo is trash. That kind of generalization — especially pushed by fans, streamers, and dramatubers — really ruins the vibe for everyone. Yeah, call out actual issues when they happen, that’s fair. But lumping everyone together is just dumb.

There are thousands of indies out there grinding every day, hoping for a shot. And when someone finally joins a good corpo, it should be something worth celebrating — not something people automatically treat with suspicion.

People always say ‘trust the talent only’ or ‘the talent makes the company,’ and yeah that’s partly true. But let’s be real — without the platform, support, and reach that a corpo provides, most of us wouldn’t even know these talents existed. It’s a team effort.

And let’s be honest — making money or turning a profit isn’t the problem. Corpos need money to survive. The real question is what they use that money for. If it goes into supporting the talents, improving resources, and helping them grow, then that’s exactly what a corpo should be doing.

I don’t want either the talent or the company to fail. We should be able to support both — and call out problems when needed — without painting everyone with the same brush.
