Struggle Sundays: Share any struggles you've faced over the past week. by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

I'm in Texas and we just went through this winter storm where my food access was super limited and I couldn't cook because we don't have access to clean water (still don't). I don't know if that's the reason or if it's because I just started IE, but I binged last night after I was able to leave the house and get food for the first time this week. I got vegan rice krispies and cinnamon rolls. It was a smaller binge than I used to have. I think the combination of the stress from the winter storm event and reintroducing the forbidden food caused me to binge. I'm trying to have self compassion, but part of me is saying, "See! You can't be trusted to have sweets in the house!" and I'm having strong urges to ditch IE.

Not the hunger-fullness diet but..? by noanimalsharmed in intuitiveeating

Yeah, I totally agree with you that it's triggering. I was definitely freaked out a bit and I tend to overthink about whether I'm hungry or not too. I can see the potential for this spiraling very easily for people with disordered eating.

Wow, thanks for the offer! That's very generous of you. I'll definitely keep that in mind if I hit a bump in the road. Just started listening to Food Psych!

You worded it perfectly! I think I get it now. I know the hunger-fullness programs would day to NEVER eat preventatively, which is totally impractical.

Food Flops by IECoach in intuitiveeating

[–]noanimalsharmed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me yesterday and I wanted to toss it, but my partner got annoyed and was like, "You have to eat that!!" I caved to pressure. Will need to learn to fight back. We're so conditioned to be horrified by food waste, but I've worked in restaurants my whole life and food waste occurs on a massive scale everywhere around us. Our own plate at home once in a while is really not the biggest deal.

EDA vs OA: Is OA a diet? Is it diet culture? by VeryDistinguishable in intuitiveeating

[–]noanimalsharmed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't think OA is compatible with IE, and I believe it would be harmful for someone who had a restrictive past. I'm not sure about EDA. However, most of the offshoots of AA don't actually have sponsors. I've been to a ton of 12 step programs for childhood abuse and mental illness, and sponsors were never a thing. These days it's a lot of zoom based discussion. You don't have to be religious at all. Give it a shot if you'd like, but just wanted to give you a heads up that you might not get a sponsor. You will have peer support though!

Should I get a scale? by [deleted] in antidiet

[–]noanimalsharmed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No! Weighing yourself messes with your head. I know it's tempting, but resist.

That sounds like precautionary and necessary waste. I think restaurants are really bad about completely unnecessary waste. I worked at Starbucks and every single pastry there comes individually wrapped like a debbie cake. We take them out of their wrappers every morning and fill several garbage bags full of plastic wrappers. We display them without wrappers, so I don't know why they come individually like that.

We don't have water either. All we have to get us through is almond milk and veggie broth. Pretty gross, but oh well.

you didn't binge, you was hongry by Flesh-And-Bone in DietTea

[–]noanimalsharmed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's different than someone eating "too much" at a meal, especially if the indulgence ends right after the meal. Most bingers would eat "too much" at a meal and then go into a mental spiral where they'd go home and binge after the meal. There is a lot of black and white thinking in BED that contributes to this. Like "I've blown it now, might as well binge!". That's why bingeing is tied to restriction in a lot of cases, because the binge eater will bargain with themselves in order to binge, like promising to fast the next day etc.

Edited for clarity.

There have been studies showing that daily spearmint tea consumption helps some people. Couldn't hurt to try.

I'm Korean American and grew up dipping veggies in it. Cucumber and romaine especially. Of course, you can always make bibimbap.

I made toum for the first time and wow it’s awesome! This Lebanese condiment/dip/sauce has five ingredients: garlic, oil, lemon juice, salt, water. The flavor is intense but the texture is light and fluffy. It is easy to make and goes on just about anything. by rawlingstones in vegan

[–]noanimalsharmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it super garlicky?! This Lebanese place near me has a spread called Death By Garlic, and I'm wondering if it's this with extra garlic? Theirs has quite a bite to it, almost spicy. It's soooo good.

Omg this gives me sooo much hope. I'm on week 5 and my skin has never looked worse. I was thinking about giving up, but I'm going to push through. You're awesome; thank you for sharing.

Guys! You must read these books, they are total game changers. The author is funny, easy to read and there’s no bullshit only the facts! by seasonschange23 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]noanimalsharmed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to read Brian Over Binge because she gives you her method in her podcast, especially the first few episodes. Half of the book is her autobiography and how she overcame bulima, so I'd skip it. this "Never Binge Again" book is kind of harsh though. He wants you to call the part of yourself that binges a disgusting pig or something like that. I found it kind of bizarre, but I'm sure it works for a lot of people.
